St. Gregory the Great
Mission Statement
St. Gregory the Great is a Catholic Church made up of people of many different ages, talents, and cultural backgrounds. We are an urban faith community with a small town feel of welcome and hospitality. Motivated by our baptismal calling, we accept our duty to embody the presence of Jesus Christ in the world and to take up the mission he entrusted to us by our word and example. We glorify God through support and service of our time, talent, and treasure to our church and to the larger community in which we live.

YEAR OF MERCY WEEKLY ACTION STEP In the bulletin every week from now until the Feast of Christ the King on Nov. 20, 2016, we will publish in the bulletin a weekly action step that will help you to live out in a very practical way what the Year of Mercy is all about. We ask that every day in the week that follows, you look for opportunities to put that action step into practice.
The action step for this week is: Admit your jealousy, both to yourself and your confessor. ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY In the Gospel today, Zacchaeus accepts our Lord joyfully; and the sign of his acceptance is his open house and his resolution to give half of his goods to the poor. TO TEACH WHO CHRIST IS CAPITAL CAMPAIGN UPDATE Currently, $401,852 has been pledged to the To Teach Who Christ Is Capital Campaign. What this means for our parish is that if all pledges are paid in full, our parish will receive a rebate of $241,111. At this point, we have $192,153 in our TTWCI account at the Archdiocese of Chicago bank. My thanks to all who have paid their pledges in full. If you are able to complete your TTWCI pledge in full, we will have the funds we will need to replace the boilers in our Grammar/High School building and to begin to replenish the funds in our Parish Building and Maintenance Fund to cover the costs of future facilities repairs that I am sure will be coming our way. The new boilers have arrived, and Service Mechanical is in the process of installing them. The cost of this project was $297,561.Thank you for your generosity to and support of the To Teach Who Christ Is Capital Campaign. If you have any questions about this, please do not hesitate to contact me. – Fr. Paul

International Chamber Artists 2016-17 “Collaboration in Concert” season continues
with concert featuring works for cello
“Champion Cello” program includes works by Frank Bridge, Brahms, and Handel
Sunday, November 6 at 1:30 p.m. at the National Shrine of St. Francis Xavier Cabrini Sunday, November 13 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Gregory the Great Church
CHICAGO – The International Chamber Artists (ICA) continues its 2016-17 season on Sunday, November 6 at 1:30 p.m. at
the National Shrine of St. Francis Xavier Cabrini (2520 N. Lakeview, Chicago). The theme of the season, “Collaboration in
Concert,” celebrates ICA’s partnerships and joint performances with a range of leading Chicago-area artists and organiza-
tions. Join ICA at the season’s second concert, which features ICA cellist Jocelyn Butler in chamber works by Frank Bridge,
Brahms, and Handel, led by Artistic Director Patrick Godon. The program will be repeated on Sunday, November 13 at 4:00
p.m. at St. Gregory the Great Church (5535 N. Paulina, Chicago).
The concert, entitled “Champion Cellist,” includes the Phantasie Trio in C minor by Frank Bridge; the celebrated Cello Sonata
No. 1 in E minor, Op. 38 by Johannes Brahms; and the Passacaglia from the Harpsichord Suite No. 7 in G Minor by George
Frideric Handel, arranged by Johan Halvorsen for violin and cello. "All cellists look forward to the chance to play such an
expressive and exciting program that shows off the full range of the cello and confirms the reason why the cello is a favorite
among most listeners," said Butler.
Following each ICA concert, audience members are invited to mingle and join the performers at a buffet dinner hosted by
Ranalli’s of Andersonville (1512 W. Berwyn, Chicago; $15 including soft drinks and tip). Tickets for all ICA concerts are FREE
($15 donation recommended).

PARISH TRANSFORMATION UPDATE #6
At our sixth Parish Transformation meeting we reflected upon the last two spiritual building blocks.
The first building block is the Call to Holiness. We believe that this is the call to become our best selves, an insight from Catholic author Matthew Kelly. St. Irenaeus states that the glory of God is when we are fully human and fully alive. This means that holiness is possible for all of us. We talked about how St. Gregory the
Great provides ways that allow our parishioners to live out holiness, the call given to us at Baptism. An important aspect for our consideration is how a personal invitation to others can help to increase participation in parish life. Parish participation, whether active or passive, energizes our relationship with God.
The second building block is Spiritual Stewardship which calls us to live from an attitude of grateful abundance. We give back, or in other words, we pay forward our gratitude for what we have received from God through the sharing of our time, talent and treasure. Pope Francis has included an urgent call to exercise stewardship of our “common home” to protect and further the life of our planet for future generations. Stewardship calls us, even at great personal sacrifice, to take care of what we have been given for the good of all, now and for those who come after us.
In the next couple of weeks we will be creating a parish narrative, a description of how we see our parish with its strengths and pearls of great price. Then we will choose two or three of the mission building blocks that we would like to focus on as we move into the future and create an action plan that will help us to build upon those building blocks. If you have any questions or concerns about our Parish Transformation project, please contact Sr. Regina or Fr. Paul or talk to any of the members of our Parish Transformation Team whose names are listed below.
