Guilt:
“The fact of being responsible for the commission of an offense… Remorseful awareness of having done something wrong.” (http://www.thefreedictionary.com /guilt)
What causes guilt?
• The acceptance of a standard of conduct
• The awareness of having gone contrary to it, Lk. 18:13; Acts 2:37; Matt. 27:2,3
Guilt has consequences:
• Guilt causes some people to run from the law, to hide their identities.
• Guilt is a cause of mental and emotional problems.
• A major part of psychiatrists’ and other counselors’ work is to help people deal with the problem of guilt.
• Consequences in cases we have cited, Lk. 18:13; Acts 2:37; Matt. 27:2-4
Those who feel no guilt:
• Those unaccountable for their actions
• Those who have seared their consciences, 1 Tim. 4:1,2

THE GUILT OF SIN
GUILT IS THAT WHICH ALL LOST SINNERS SHOULD FEEL BEFORE GOD, 2 Thes. 1:7-9; 1 Cor. 6:9-11
• If sinners are to avoid eternity in hell they must see their guilty state before almighty God!
• The lack of guilt feeling among sinners is spoken of as the extremes of depravity: Jer. 6:15; Eph. 4:17-19; Phil. 3:19

• Suicide, Matt. 27:3-5, 25
• By justifying one’s self in sin, 1 Sam. 13:11,12; Jno. 11:49-51
