Resurrection Recommitment

We all know that Easter can tempt us with “cheap grace” and the cultural focus on chocolate bunnies and basketsof treats. But Easter is more than just a happy ending to a tragic story. Easter is power; power of the presence ofthe resurrected Christ.

Sure, Easter has to do with eternity, but Easter also has to do with everyday living. It’s is about this incrediblelife-change that can happen when we recognize the Risen Savior in our lives. And we can each knon ; He is there. He is Risen and through the power of the Holy Spirit and by the grace of God, He is everywhere we are - along theroad, at the store, in our work places and school, at home awaiting our return. He is risen and he is here.

So in the light of that, should nice weather erode away our Sunday commitment to attending worship? EasterSunday has come and gone? Should our joyful response “Christ is risen!" be so easily silenced by our absence? No!

Let's resolve to change the spring and summer slump into a Resurrection Recommitment. We may have asmany in the sanctuary like we did on Easter Sunday, but we can all work on it. So let’s commit, right now, toextend the Easter celebration and worship commitment we had on April 5th all the way through the Easterseason, which concludes on Pentecost Sunday, May 24th.

But why stop there? Let’s work on increasing our worship attendance and our regularity in worship (the amountof times you come each month) throughout the entire year. I know that May and the summer months are busytimes. Our calendars are filled with extra outings, longer days, and trips near and far. But worship is where youget recharged and refueled by the resurrection hope we celebrate each Sunday.

This is how we’re going to do it. You’re going put “Go to Church,” on your calendar every Sunday at10:00 a.m. That way it becomes a scheduled commitment you can’t break. You’re going to reach out to those whosit near you in worship, but you haven’t seen in a while, and tell them you miss hugging them when we pass thepeace. Ask them how they’re doing and offer to pray for them. Let’s remember “3 People,” that comeoccasionally and begin reaching out to them. You are going to invite your neighbors and friends to come to churchwith you - offer to pick them up and invite them to the Sunday Brunch.

We are not going to roll over and play dead during the spring and summer slump. Jesus’ final words on the crosswere, “It is finished.” But on Easter, “It is finished,” became “Now it begins.” Life begins NOW.

Christ is Risen! And so are WE! Yes, with the resurrection of Jesus Christ, a new era has dawned. Come hear aboutthose post-resurrection encounters with Jesus that changed people’s lives. They became different, new, vitalpeople. And the same be can true for our lives!

So many times we forget about those people who were once very active in our parish. Where are they now? Thisis a perfect time of year to remember them and make an effort to mention them in your prayers and then callthem to see how they’re doing and what’s going on in their lives. As Pope Francis has said so many times; invitethose Catholics that have fallen away from the church… “Catholics Come Home!”

Please consider making a donation to this Appeal. Let’s do it again and surpass our goal for 2014!ADORATION of the BLESSED SACRAMENT: Begins this Friday from 12 Noon to 6:30 p.m. A sign up

sheet is on the table in the back of the church. You may sign up to be an "adorer" which allows you toschedule yourself to pray before the very presence of Our Lord, exposed in the monstrance. It means thatyou can have some time alone with Jesus to recite your favorite prayers, read the bible, contemplate actsof faith, hope, charity, thanksgiving, reparation, pray a rosary or do whatever type of prayerful devotionthat suits you before Our Lord. You can just sit and say nothing simply keeping Him company, just as you

would with a dear friend.Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at 6:30 p.m.

A big heartfelt “Thank You” Lonnie!

We don’t often see the impact our day-to-day generosities have on other people. When we do, it’s a gift. Because of Lonnie’s love for the earth and what it can produce… Sacred Heart Church has a wonderful CommunityGarden located on the lot adjacent to the handicap parking area. Lonnie has cultivated, tilled, plowed and made 12 gardening boxes that have been adopted by severalparishioners. The gardens are rich with black soil – a gardener’s delight! Our gardens will become our oasis and our pride. We’ll use trowels, hand pruners, shovels, potting soil, and hard work. Through our endeavor tomake these gardens thrive, we will be strengthened and encouraged. It will be our challenge to take thesegardens, tend to them as if they were our children, water and feed it, watch them grow and give us unendingjoy. Attached is a visual walk through our Community Garden. Thank you Lonnie for all you do for SacredHeart Church.

Change And TrustBy Gini Andrews

Life for most of us is not a steady-paced stroll through time, with a beginning, a middle, and an end, like awell-constructed play. It’s filled with change. We change schools, careers, homes, relationships, and “images”almost as casually as our great grandparents changed horses.

Not that all change is by choice. Tragedy strikes and our lives change forever. A marriage dissolves, and a woman, linked to her husband by a thousand threads, finds those threads snapped and wonders who she is. Cherishedfriendships change in character or another person’s choice cuts directly across our own, bringing us where wenever wanted to be.

A career change, voluntary or involuntary, may disrupt our lives, leaving us searching for the chain that holds thebeads of our lives together, Financial losses sweep away our props. Even geographic change can be disorienting.

And always there is the unchangeable, the irreversible. We long to go back and begin again, to undo our mistakes.Impossible, of course. When we pull out the nails of our failures, the ugly holes remain.

For the believer, then, the question is vital: Is our God the Lord of change? Will he be with us in change, especiallywhen it strains our trust to its limit? Ironically, while we trust him with our eternal fate, we may find it difficult totrust him for next month’s car payment, a new relationship, or an unexpected turn in our lives. The assumptionthat the Almighty is unacquainted with the complex people he has made keeps us hanging onto bits and pieces ofour lives, deceived by Satan’s ancient lie that God does not want the best for us. In a threatened world, in the kaleidoscopic whirl of our life patterns, it can be enormously reassuring to re-mindourselves that God is unchanging: “I the Lord do not change” (Malachi3:6). “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday andtoday and forever” (Hebrews 13:8).

Do Not ForgetBy Joni Eareckson Tada

The Israelites witnessed miracle after miracle, even as the shackles of slavery fell off their ankles. They wereprotected by the goodness of God from the Egyptian plagues and were led by his goodness of Egypt. But the most miraculous display of God’s goodness was when he shored up the waves of the Red Sea to open apath for their escape. I can picture the Israelites liking up like bewildered tourists at the water, which rose likeglass skyscrapers on either side. “Wow, look at that...God is amazing!” they must have exclaimed.

If you want to hear how thrilled they were, read Exodus 15. The people were so excited that they went on fortwenty-one verses shouting hosannas to the Lord. But exactly three short verses later, in Exodus 15:24, their joyturned sour. It seems that for three days “they traveled in the desert without finding water…. So the peoplegrumbled.

It was as if the miracle of the Red Sea had never happened. The excitement of the Israelites’ songs and praisesfaded all too quickly when they ran into a little trouble. And the irony is, they grumbled about water! Didn’t theyre-call that God could do wonderful things with water? They had just watched him hold back a whole sea of it. Yetthey couldn’t trust God for his goodness even for three short days. How quickly they forgot,

Yet, how quickly we forget. We are slow to remember God’s goodness, yet quick to complain. We doubt theprotection and provision of our God. Perhaps we ought to take the advice God gave those Israelites inDeuteronomy 4:9: “Only be careful and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forger the things your eyeshave seen.” That’s one verse we ought not to forget.
