There was a casein Canada where a man took 8000 to12000 IU daily over 30 months whichresulted in kidney damage. Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Honourable Lois Mitchell and her husband, Honorable Douglas Mitchell (Right) speak withTown of Legal mural co-ordinator Ernie Chauvet and his wife Loretta (L-R), mayor Carol Tremblay and deputy mayor AnnetteHammond June 9.

Noah Burt (Left) and Simon Geanyaenjoy the trails around the MorinvilleFish and Game Association fish pondJune 10. “It’s awesome,” said Noah.“There’s lots of nature and exercisething-a-ma-bobs all over the place,”added Simon.

Local businesses have joined forces todonate 200 high-tech ventilators to AlbertaHealth Services, supporting life-savingtreatment for all Albertans.

Calgary advanced technology firm ExergySolutions designed and built theventilators. Suncor Energy providedfinancial support to make the donationpossible. A cross-industry team ofpartners from across the province workedtogether to ensure the success of theproject.

The ventilators, named Alberta E-Ventand nicknamed “Bertie,” were built in partthrough 3D printing technology. They areintended to provide short-term respiratorysupport, monitoring, and treatment foradult patients if a conventional ventilatoris unavailable.

Should the need arise, Alberta E-Ventwill allow hospitals to expand their patientcare capacity and reallocate conventionalventilators to patients with more complexneeds.

“Alberta is incredibly fortunate to haveprivate-sector firms like Exergy andSuncor step in to make sure its healthsystem is well supplied with criticalmedical technology. The creation of theAlberta E-Vent ventilator shows what’spossible when Albertans collaborate andfocus their expertise on a commongoal,” states Tyler Shandro,Minister of Health.

The 200 ventilators are approvedby Health Canada and areexpected to be donated this week.Exergy and Suncor are exploringthe possibility of expandingproduction to help fight theworldwide COVID-19 pandemic.

“This pandemic has reinforcedthat when we work together acrossgovernments and industries wecan accomplish much more thanwe can do when we work alone. The support we’ve provided to thisproject is another example of howwe’re working with partners in thefight against COVID-19,” statesMike MacSween, executive vice-president, Suncor Energy

“The Exergy team had thetechnology and agile engineeringto develop the ventilator quickly,

but we needed help, so we reached out andengaged with experts from other organizationsto get the design right. I am proud to work witha team that was able to execute a year-longproject in six weeks and to do so with passion

and tenacity. The Bertie is truly a ‘made-in-Alberta solution,” comments Ian Buchanan,vice-president technical services, ExergySolutions
