John Finney

Conductor of the University Chorale of Boston College

and the Boston College Symphony Orchestra

John Finney is now in his 28th year as Conductor of the University Chorale of Boston College. He was

appointed conductor of the Boston College Symphony Orchestra in 1999, and given the title of Distinguished

Artist-in-Residence at Boston College. Under his direction, the University Chorale has performed throughout

the Boston area, and in a number of the world’s major cities, including New York City, Dublin, Lisbon, Madrid,

Barcelona, Berlin, Prague, Budapest, Vienna, and Rome. He has conducted the Boston College Symphony

Orchestra in performances of many major works, including symphonies and concertos by Mozart, Beethoven,

Dvořák, and Tchaikovsky.

John Finney has been recognized as one of the most important musicians in the Boston area. He has served as

Director of Music at the Wellesley Hills Congregational Church for 36 years, and has performed as Conductor

and keyboardist at the acclaimed Bach Festival in Blue Hill, Maine since 2013. He was Associate Conductor and

Chorusmaster of Boston's Handel & Haydn Society for 24 years, and recently retired from his position as

Conductor of the Heritage Chorale in Framingham, a position he held since 1987. He has also served on the

organ faculty of The Boston Conservatory, and taught for six years at the Academy for Early Music in

Bressanone, Italy.
