From Father Mike Tix . . . . As we begin Catholic Schools Week today, I want to share with you the great strides that have been made at St. John’s School over the last year. St. John’s continues to serve students from St. Mary in New Trier, St. Mathias in Hampton, St. John’s in Vermillion, and more. We have fantastic kids! In May of last year, Dawn Biren was hired as Principal and began her work in June to insure a smooth transition to a new school year that has been realized. Dawn brings great administrative and advancement skills, along with classroom experience as a teacher herself, to support the work of our committed school staff in helping our students to grow in age, wisdom, and grace as the leaders of tomorrow, who are grounded in Catholic faith and values today. In working with Dawn, our mantra has been “Kids First!” and leading in a way that looks first and foremost to the best interests of our students. Looking over the year, we have experienced support from our parents in choosing St. John’s for their children, as well as those who have provided financial support from many individuals within and outside of our area who believe in our school and its mission, to say nothing of the invaluable prayerful support of everyone in our tri-parish community. One of the many particular highlights of this past year has been a grant that allowed us to develop a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) room and curriculum for students in our preschool through fourth grade. Another important step in recent months has been the development of a formal Partnership Agreement between St. Mary and St. Mathias with St. John’s to help in providing a Catholic school presence that will hopefully be finalized soon.

As much as I’ve been looking back, there is much positive excitement looking ahead. Our goal is to build upon our current enrollment of 84 students. Currently our preschool program is full, and thanks to a recent grant from the Catholic School Center of Excellence, we plan to open a second preschool classroom for fall of 2020. With the new classroom of more students, we hope that our preschool will become a feeder to our kindergarten through fourth grade. Already we have experienced great interest about preschool with many already registering for 2020-21. Other opportunities are also being explored to position ourselves for a bright and healthy future.

All of us can take great pride in our Catholic schools, and the difference they have made, and continue to make at many levels. Every-thing from our parishes to our world, is a better place because of our Catholic schools. I hope that you will help us share the positive developments at St. John’s School with others, and especially prospective parents of future students. Know that anyone in always invited to come and tour the school by contacting Dawn Biren at either [email protected] or calling 651.437.2644. Thank you for your support of St. John the Baptist Catholic School!

We have an enemy of our lives and our souls. He works hardest at leading us to believe that we have no worth and that our lives do not matter. He will make you think you are not enough, or that your life has no purpose. This is a lie.

The Bible is very clear that our life has great value and purpose. Spend some time looking up these scriptures and discover what God says about you. Allow the truth of God’s words to wash over you, giving you belief and hope that you are desired and wanted. Reject the lies of the enemy that say anything otherwise. Because these are the lies that keep telling you, “You can’t” when God says “you can” These are what is known as limiting beliefs. Lies that we choose to belief about ourselves that limit our ability to create positive change in life, and to achieve our goals. Instead of believing these lies, choose “I Can.” In the eyes of God, you have great value! #creatingpositivechange

We like to thank Jesse Frandrup of Valley Welding for making the indoor stand for the KoC banner !

Next meeting will be on Feb 04 in the Church basement at 7 pm.

Vermillion and New Trier Campaign Update At St. John’s there is an appeal underway for heating work and roof replacement needing to be done on the 2005 school addition. This work is planned to take place in June after the last day of school. Currently funding for the Vermillion project is at 66% of its $100,000 goal.

At St. Mary’s there is an appeal underway for the church interior renovation that will begin in May, and be completed to coincide with Christmas, 2020. Currently funding for the New Trier project is at 52% of its $130,000 goal.

A special word of thanks to those who have participated in these extra appeals. If you haven’t participated, your help is needed. Please prayerfully consider how you can help achieve these goals that allow us to continue our mission of making Jesus Christ known and loved. If you have any questions, please know that you are welcome to contact Father Mike Tix at 651.291.4449. The SJB Second Grade will be helping the people assisted at the Lewis House by bringing a little fun into their lives with “Birthday Bags.” The bags will consist of all the items needed for a birthday celebration – gift bag, cake mix, canned frosting, candles, and a decoration. If you would like to donate any of these items, please send them to school. We would like us to be able to put several Birthday Bags together. The gift bags should be a size that will hold the other items, but not so big they would be hard to store. Decorations can include streamers, banners, balloons, napkins, etc. We will put the bags together on February 25; however, you are welcome to drop off items any time at church or school.
