Some say the first computers were actually people. People were called computers because they performed jobs that were assigned to them. “Computers” originated from a job title. This job was occupied by majority Caucasian women who were assigned to compute/ or calculate answers. But with less and less accuracy, inventors needed to create a new invention for this job.

One of many computers are calculators, the first calculator was called an abacus. The abacus was mostly used for addition and subtraction. It was used less for multiplication and division because it took so much time. When people here the word abacus, they mostly think of how the Chinese government still uses this product.

Now the abacus above is a older abacus, and the one below are more modern.

LOGARITHMS After “the calculator period” there were logarithms, now logarithms are ivory

sticks with numbers and values on them. They were made for multiplication problems via addition. On the ivory stick there are numbers carved on it.

Before and After

After the logarithms there were many inventions to try to do the job of a modern day computer, but none of those inventions work quite like ancient type-writer
