  • The History of Orange City Elementary The hallmark of Orange City Elementary is its history. First established in 1876, the first wooden schoolhouse was built in 1878 on ten

acres of land. Housing first through eighth grade students, it was named Orange City School.

In 1927, the wooden schoolhouse was replaced by the stucco building which now houses the main office. At that time, 120 students in grades one through nine attended the school.

In 1965, the school was renamed Orange City Elementary as the junior and senior high school students moved to schools in DeLand.

Currently, we have 10 buildings , 12 portables, and the stucco main building. Many of our current students have parents and grandparents that attended

Orange City Elementary, and some of our current teachers attended this school in their youth.

There is truly a sense of history and pride on our campus.

  • OCE is truly unique!

The school is now in a suburban area, surrounded by single-family homes, churches, retirement communities and small businesses.

We are uniquely situated within a city block. Cross the street in any direction and you will be in someone’s front yard. As such, we have close ties with the neighborhood.

Additionally, the police and fire departments, as well as the public library, are all within walking distance, and several of our classes utilize these places for educational field trips.

  • School Mission

All students learn at Orange City School, where CPR—Cooperation, Pride and Respect—brings us to life and helps us to do our best.

    School Belief Statements

At Orange City Elementary School, the principal is the instructional leader of the school, and the teachers have high expectations and believe that each child will learn. The climate of our school is conducive to teaching and learning with a strong emphasis placed on involving parents and community in students’ education.
