Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph

December 26 & 27, 2015

1 Samuel 1:20-22, 24-28 Samuel is dedicated to the Lord.

Psalm 84 “Blessed are they who dwell in you

house, O Lord.”

1 John 3:1-2, 21-24 We are God’s children now.

Luke 2:41-52 Mary and Joseph find Jesus teaching in

the temple.

Today’s Gospel tells a story of the worry and deep concern that Mary and Joseph

experience upon learning that their young son is missing. Parents who have ever lost their

child, even briefly, can appreciate the worry of Jesus’ parents. As we listen to these scrip-

ture readings today, let us ask for God’s strength and comfort for all

families, but especially those that are undergoing hardship.

Epiphany of the Lord

January 2 & 3, 2015

Stewardship

The Blessed Virgin Mary was the model steward with her

unqualified, “yes” and complete trust in God’s will. When I

put God first in my life, everything else fall into place

Remember us in your Will!!!

Our Lady of Good Counsel is extremely grateful to those

individuals who have made, or have expressed an intention

to make a gift to our future ministries in their will. Such a

gift is among the most far reaching and valuable

contributions a parishioner can make, directly benefitting

the future mission and ministries of our parish and school.

If you are considering leaving your gift as a will or bequest

to the parish and would like additional information, please

contact our office at (808) 455-3012.

Retirement Fund for Religious

Religious give thanks. “We cannot begin to repay all who

contributed,” writes a Catholic sister. “So we pray to God,

who is never outdone in generosity to reward you.” Heartfelt

thanks for your donation to last week’s collection for the

Retirement Fund for Religious. May God bless you for your

goodness!

We’ve been hearing a lot lately from Pope Francis and our

Catholic leaders about the importance and the need for family.

Yes, part of this emphasis is because of the current political

battles taking place in Western countries over same sex

marriage and abortion. But, there is more going on than this.

Both the Old and New Testaments emphasize that we have an

obligation to care for our weakest and most vulnerable. Today,

as in Biblical days, this means children, elderly and refugees.

The fact is that children the world over are suffering greatly

these days. And parents (i.e., a loving, caring adult) is abso-

lutely, without a doubt, the best bet a child has of flourishing

into adulthood. Heck - of even surviving to adulthood.

Orphanages cannot and will not replace homes. In the end, no

matter our age, we all need “home.”

That said, (today’s) Scriptures and our church leaders are NOT

trying to tell us that family life is meant to look “perfect.” Fam-

ily life is messy! Just look at today’s Gospel for a reminder of

this. We need family - we need love - we do not need

“perfection.”
