Our mission is sharing the saving love of Jesus
AS WE GATHER
The feast of the Holy Trinity is about the one true God who has revealed Himself in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. But the feast is not about God alone. As the Trinity, He is, of course, never alone even in Himself. But also in His creation, even the pinnacle of His work, man, is not to be alone. Male and female He created them. But even greater than this relationship is man’s relationship with God. Created “in His image,” we are never to be alone but find our identity in fellowship with God. Without Him, we are incomplete. The image of God means to possess God’s righteousness. The “righteousness” of God means everything working together like God intended. That includes a relationship with Him. Though we lost that righteousness by our sin, choosing to be alone without God, God still took into Himself our very human nature in the person of the Son of God, Jesus. By His innocent life and His substitutionary suffering and death, all who repent and are baptized into Him are restored in righteousness. With Christ and in Him, we, too, are crowned in glory and honor. All praise to God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, now and forever.
Reminders about Procedures
As we return to worshiping together, these are the procedures that we’ll use with the current
concerns about Covid-19. These will be reviewed and revised according to conditions.
1. Building entry: Please enter and exit the building through the main south doors to the newer
part of the building. The door will be propped open or someone will open/hold the door for you.
Those will be open by 8:30 a.m.
2. Masks: The elders strongly encourage everyone to bring a mask and wear it properly during
worship. Masks for adults and older children will be available at no cost for those who need
them.
3. Sanctuary seating: Family members are asked to sit together at one of the spots marked in
the pews. This will help minimize the amount of sanitizing that needs to be done. The markers
are 6 feet apart. Please maintain at least a 6 foot distance from others in the same pew. Please
fill the sanctuary from the front of each section. People will be dismissed from the back of the
sanctuary first.
4. Singing during the service: Research has been provided to the Board of Elders that
indicates singing as a likely way that Covid-19 is spread from one person to another. We ask
you to sing in the following ways:
a. “lip sync” or mouth the words without making much if any sound.
b. think about the words as they are sung.
5. Hymnals and Bulletins: If you plan to use a hymnal, someone wearing a mask and gloves
will hand you the number that you/your family need. Until further notice, we want you to
consider those as your personal hymnals to use. After each service, we ask that you take home
with you the hymnals that you have used and bring them back the next week for worship.
(Plastic bags will be provided for you to carry them.)
The order of worship will be printed in the bulletin in the usual format. Also available will be
some copies of a large print format that has everything printed out including the hymns.
Someone wearing a mask and gloves will distribute paper copies of both kinds of bulletins. Both
formats of the bulletin will be posted to Trinity’s website. You can print those off at home and
bring your own copies. Or, you can also access the bulletin during worship with your smart
phone, tablet, iPad, etc. A “guest” password for the church’s wi-fi system will be provided.
6. Prayer Requests: If you have someone/something you’d like me to include in prayers
during worship, please:
a. Call/e-mail me in the days before the service to notify me about the prayer request.
b. Speak to me before the service.
7. Communion Procedures: Appropriate social distancing will be observed at the Communion
rail. Spots will be marked on the Communion rail as suggestions for where individuals/ families
can stand. The markers are 6 feet apart. A distance of at least 6 feet should be allowed
between family groups and/or individuals. The Communion elements have been prepared for the
service by an elder wearing a mask and gloves.
a. To avoid standing in lines together, an usher will indicate when it is your/your
family’s turn to come to the Communion rail. Please exit your pew at the end closest to
you and take the shortest route to the rail after the previous table leaves.
b. Those at the rail are asked to remain standing in order to minimize the need to sanitize
the Communion rail between tables.
c. Pastor and an elder will distribute the host/wafer and the individual cups. They will
both wear masks and gloves.
1.) Please have your hands open and together in the shape of a cross to receive
the wafer. It will be carefully dropped into your open hands.
2.) The individual cups will be handed to you. Please take hold of the cup from
the bottom.
3.) Move your mask appropriately as you commune.
4.) Pastor will give children and others a baptismal blessing but will not touch
them.
d. Trays/baskets will be placed on stands near the ends of the Communion rails to collect
individual cups after each table. Carefully drop you cup in the tray as you walk by.
e. When you are done communing, return to where you were sitting by the shortest route.
8. Offering: Please place your offering in the plate on the table in the narthex either before or
after the service.
9. Attendance/Communion Registration: The elders and I will make a list of those who have
participated in worship and Holy Communion after each service.
10. After the service: Individuals/family groups will be ushered out of the sanctuary beginning
from the back.
a. Pastor will greet people from an appropriate distance in the narthex as they leave. He
will not be shaking hands or doing fist or elbow bumps.
b. For the sake of avoiding bottlenecks and larger groups of people together, we ask that
you move through the narthex into the Fellowship Hall or outside. As you exit the
building, someone will hold the doors for you or the door will be propped open.
c. We know that people will want to visit with each other. That is certainly fine, but we
ask that those who do so maintain appropriate social distancing of 6 feet or more.
d. For the time being, no coffee or other refreshments will be available either before or
after the service.
11. Sunday School: There will be no Sunday School classes and the wiffle ball games will be
postponed until all post-service socializing is allowed to take place.
12. Adult Bible study will be held in the sanctuary after everyone is dismissed. The center
section of the sanctuary will be used for seating. The hard surfaces on the marked spots of those
pews will be sanitized before Bible study begins. Again, social distancing will be maintained
with seating and dismissal similar to worship.
13. Be gracious: There will be a “learning curve” for all of us when it comes to these
procedures. None of us are perfect. We ask you to be patient and gracious with us and with each
other.
Romans 14:19, ESV: “So then let us pursue what makes for peace and for mutual
upbuilding.”

INVOCATION Pastor: In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. People: Amen.
OPENING SENTENCES LSB 820:1
Pastor: My soul, now praise your Maker! People: Let all within me bless His name. Pastor: Forget Him not whose meekness
Still bears with all your sin. People: Who leaves no suff’rer friendless
But rights the wronged at last.
CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION LSB 820:2
Pastor: Let us confess our waywardness and sin in order that we may rise to newness of life by faith, that we may be His own and live under Him in everlasting righteousness, innocence, and blessedness.
People: O God, our Creator and Redeemer, hear our pleas for mercy. We have turned away from You and rebelled against You by going our own way. Because of our sin, we have discovered it is not good for us to be alone, without You. For the sake of the glory and honor of the salvation won for us in Your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ, forgive us and restore in us the image of Your own life and love. Amen.
Pastor: God offers all His treasure Of justice, truth, and righteousness, His love beyond all measure. And high as heaven above us, So far, since He has loved us, He puts our sins away. Therefore, in the stead and by the command of my Lord Jesus Christ, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
People: Amen.
WORD
KYRIE
HYMN OF PRAISE “Gloria in Excelsis” LSB 204
SALUTATION Pastor: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you.
PRAYER OF THE DAY Pastor: Let us pray. People: Almighty and everlasting God, You have given us grace to acknowledge the glory
of the eternal Trinity by the confession of a true faith and to worship the Unity in the power of the Divine Majesty. Keep us steadfast in this faith and defend us from all adversities; for You, O Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, live and reign, one God, now and forever. Amen.
OLD TESTAMENT READING Genesis 1:1–2:4a (The beginning) 1In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. 2The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. 3And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. 5God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day. 6And God said, “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.” 7And God made the expanse and separated the waters that were under the expanse from the waters that were above the expanse. And it was so. 8And God called the expanse Heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, the second day. 9And God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear.” And it was so. 10God called the dry land Earth, and the waters that were gathered together he called Seas. And God saw that it was good. 11And God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind, on the earth.” And it was so. 12The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed according to their own kinds, and trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 13And there was evening and there was morning, the third day. 14And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years, 15and let them be lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth.” And it was so. 16And God made the two great lights—the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night—and the stars. 17And God set them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, 18to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19And there was evening and there was morning, the fourth day. 20And God said, “Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the heavens.” 21So God created the great sea creatures and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarm, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.” 23And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day. 24And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds—livestock and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds.” And it was so. 25And God made the beasts of the earth according to their kinds and the livestock according to their kinds, and everything that creeps on the ground according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 26Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. 28And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” 29And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. 30And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so. 31And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day. 1Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. 3So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation. 4These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created.
Pastor: This is the Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God.
GRADUAL Psalm 145:3, 5b, 6b
Pastor: Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised, People: and His greatness is unsearchable. Pastor: On Your wondrous works, I will meditate, People: and I will declare Your greatness.
SECOND READING Acts 2:14a, 22–36 (Jesus, both Lord and Messiah) 14Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and addressed them, . . . 22“Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know— 23this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men. 24God raised him up, loosing the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it. 25For David says concerning him, “‘I saw the Lord always before me, for he is at my right hand that I may not be shaken; 26therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; my flesh also will dwell in hope. 27For you will not abandon my soul to Hades, or let your Holy One see corruption. 28You have made known to me the paths of life; you will make me full of gladness with your presence.’ 29“Brothers, I may say to you with confidence about the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. 30Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants on his throne, 31he foresaw and spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption. 32This Jesus God raised up, and of that we all are witnesses. 33Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this that you yourselves are seeing and hearing. 34For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says, “‘The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand, 35until I make your enemies your footstool.’ 36Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.”
Pastor: This is the Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God.
VERSE Isaiah 6:3b
Pastor: Alleluia. Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; People: the whole earth is full of His glory! Alleluia.
Pastor: The Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew, the twenty-eighth chapter. People: Glory to You, O Lord.
HOLY GOSPEL Matthew 28:16–20 (The Great Commission) 16Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. 17And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. 18And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Pastor: This is the Gospel of the Lord. People: Praise to You, O Christ.

SERMON “Witness to the Truth of the Triune God” (Acts 2:14a, 22-36)
ATHANASIAN CREED
Pastor: Whoever desires to be saved must, above all, hold the catholic faith.
People: Whoever does not keep it whole and undefiled will without doubt perish eternally. Pastor: And the catholic faith is this,
People: that we worship one God in Trinity and Trinity in Unity, neither confusing the persons nor
dividing the substance. Pastor: For the Father is one person, the Son is another, and the Holy Spirit is another.
People: But the Godhead of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit is one: the glory equal, the
majesty coeternal. Pastor: Such as the Father is, such is the Son, and such is the Holy Spirit:
People: the Father uncreated, the Son uncreated, the Holy Spirit uncreated; Pastor: the Father infinite, the Son infinite, the Holy Spirit infinite;
People: the Father eternal, the Son eternal, the Holy Spirit eternal. Pastor: And yet there are not three Eternals, but one Eternal,
People: just as there are not three Uncreated or three Infinites, but one Uncreated and one Infinite. Pastor: In the same way, the Father is almighty, the Son almighty, the Holy Spirit almighty;
People: and yet there are not three Almighties, but one Almighty. Pastor: So the Father is God, the Son is God, the Holy Spirit is God;
People: and yet there are not three Gods, but one God. Pastor: So the Father is Lord, the Son is Lord, the Holy Spirit is Lord;
People: and yet there are not three Lords, but one Lord. Pastor: Just as we are compelled by the Christian truth to acknowledge each distinct person as God and
Lord, so also are we prohibited by the catholic religion to say that there are three Gods or Lords.
People: The Father is not made nor created nor begotten by anyone. Pastor: The Son is neither made nor created, but begotten of the Father alone.
People: The Holy Spirit is of the Father and of the Son, neither made nor created nor begotten, but
proceeding. Pastor: Thus, there is one Father, not three Fathers; one Son, not three Sons; one Holy Spirit, not three Holy
Spirits.
People: And in this Trinity none is before or after another; none is greater or less than another; Pastor: but the whole three persons are coeternal with each other and coequal, so that in all things, as has
been stated above, the Trinity in Unity and Unity in Trinity is to be worshiped.
People: Therefore, whoever desires to be saved must think thus about the Trinity.
Pastor: But it is also necessary for everlasting salvation that one faithfully believe the incarnation of our
Lord Jesus Christ.
People: Therefore, it is the right faith that we believe and confess that our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son
of God, is at the same time both God and man. Pastor: He is God, begotten from the substance of the Father before all ages; and He is man, born from the
substance of His mother in this age:
People: perfect God and perfect man, composed of a rational soul and human flesh; Pastor: equal to the Father with respect to His divinity, less than the Father with respect to His humanity.
People: Although He is God and man, He is not two, but one Christ: Pastor: one, however, not by the conversion of the divinity into flesh, but by the assumption of the humanity
into God;
People: one altogether, not by confusion of substance, but by unity of person. Pastor: For as the rational soul and flesh is one man, so God and man is one Christ,
People: who suffered for our salvation, descended into hell, rose again the third day from the dead, Pastor: ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father, God Almighty, from whence He
will come to judge the living and the dead.
People: At His coming all people will rise again with their bodies and give an account concerning their
own deeds. Pastor: And those who have done good will enter into eternal life, and those who have done evil into eternal
fire.
People: This is the catholic faith; whoever does not believe it faithfully and firmly cannot be saved.
PRAYER OF THE CHURCH
Pastor: Let us pray for the whole people of God in Christ Jesus and for all people according to their needs. Almighty God, our Creator and Redeemer, we praise Your name in all Your works of Your creation, but especially for Your work of the redemption of the whole world through the saving sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ. Guide and govern Your Church throughout the world that the glory of Your righteousness may come to the salvation of all. Lead us in the way of truth that we confess together the unity of faith before the whole world. Lord, in Your mercy,
People: hear our prayer. Pastor: To all ministers of the Gospel and the congregations committed to their care, grant the
unity of Your grace that they reflect Your own image of mercy, grace, and unity, and please You in all things. Lord, in Your mercy,
People: hear our prayer. Pastor: Though there be many divisions between people in this sinful world, have mercy on all
who are in the authority of government that their service draw everyone to walk in accordance with Your will and Your commandments. Lord, in Your mercy,
People: hear our prayer. Pastor: Help us by our reconciliation with You also to be reconciled with one another that
forgiveness and love prevail in our marriages, families, and especially as faithful disciples of Jesus in the Church and our daily lives. Lord, in Your mercy,
People: hear our prayer. Pastor: Other petitions… . Lord in Your mercy, People: hear our prayer. Pastor: God of mercy, You have revealed Your will that all should come to the knowledge of the
truth and be saved. In unity also with all those who have gone before us in saving faith, strengthen in us that living hope of the resurrection and the life of the world to come that we live in faith and joy. To You, O God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, be all honor and glory, now and forever.
People: Amen.
OFFERING (please put your offering in the plate on the table.)
SACRAMENT
PREFACE Pastor: The Lord be with you. 2 Timothy 4:22
People: And also with you. Pastor: Lift up your hearts. [Colossians 3:1]
People: We lift them to the Lord. Pastor: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. [Psalm 136]
People: It is right to give Him thanks and praise.
PROPER PREFACE Pastor: It is truly good, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in all places give thanks
to You, holy Lord, almighty Father, everlasting God, who with Your only-begotten Son and the Holy Spirit are one God, one Lord. In the confession of the only true God, we worship the Trinity in person and the Unity in substance, of majesty coequal. Therefore with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven we laud and magnify Your glorious name, evermore praising You and saying:
SANCTUS
PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING
Pastor: Blessed are You, Lord of heaven and earth, for You have had mercy on those whom You created and sent Your only-begotten Son into our flesh to bear our sin and be our Savior. With repentant joy we receive the salvation accomplished for us by the all-availing sacrifice of His body and His blood on the cross. Gathered in the name and the remembrance of Jesus, we beg You, O Lord, to forgive, renew, and strengthen us with Your Word and Spirit. Grant us faithfully to eat His body and drink His blood as He bids us do in His own testament. Gather us together, we pray, from the ends of the earth to celebrate with all the faithful the marriage feast of the Lamb in His kingdom, which has no end. Graciously receive our prayers; deliver and preserve us. To You alone, O Father, be all glory, honor, and worship, with the Son and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
People: Amen.
THE WORDS OF OUR LORD Matthew 26:26–28; Mark 14:22–24; Luke 22:19–20; 1 Corinthians 11:23–25
Pastor: Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to the disciples and said: “Take, eat; this is My body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of Me.” In the same way also He took the cup after supper, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying: “Drink of it, all of you; this cup is the new testament in My blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”
PROCLAMATION OF CHRIST Pastor: As often as we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim the Lord’s death until He
comes. 1 Corinthians 11:26
People: Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. Revelation 22:20
Pastor: O Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, in giving us Your body and blood to eat and to drink, You lead us to remember and confess Your holy cross and passion, Your blessed death, Your rest in the tomb, Your resurrection from the dead, Your ascension into heaven, and Your coming for the final judgment. So remember us in Your kingdom and teach us to pray:
LORD’S PRAYER Matthew 6:9–13
People: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
PAX DOMINI Pastor: The peace of the Lord be with you always. People: Amen.

5 Firmly hold with faith unshaken
That this food is to be taken
By the sick who are distressed,
By hearts that long for peace and rest.
6 Agony and bitter labor
Were the cost of God’s high favor;
Do not come if you suppose
You need not Him who died and rose.
7 Christ says: “Come, all you that labor,
And receive My grace and favor:
Those who feel no pain or ill
Need no physician’s help or skill.
8 “For what purpose was My dying
If not for your justifying?
And what use this precious food
If you yourself were pure and good?”
9 If your heart this truth professes
And your mouth your sin confesses,
You will be your Savior’s guest,
Be at His banquet truly blest.
10 Let this food your faith so nourish
That its fruit of love may flourish
And your neighbor learn from you
How much God’s wondrous love can

A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life • www.lutheransforlife.org “As you love the Savior, and
through Him the members of your family, seek to remember how it is when Christ attends a wedding. He
is not only to be a permanent and prominent Guest in your home; He should be its most visible
centerpiece, enriching your marriage and empowering your relationships with others.” Rev. Dr. Armin
Oldsen, former speaker of “The Lutheran Hour”
