The Parent Information Evening… evening will be a valuable opportunity to meet the classroom teacher and learn more about the fantastic programmes offered to your children this year. Parents are invited to attend all class presentations and to bring a plate for our shared supper… coffee and tea is on me! The evening will observe the following schedule 6.45 Piwakawaka (Julie Raybould) 7.00 Kea (Megan Stewart) 7.15 Tui (Julie Baranowski/Marty Gameson) 7.30 Shared Supper - Including brief presentations from the Principal, Board of Trustees and Parent Teachers Association School Transport… This year 51 (85%) of the total school roll regularly travel to and from school by school bus. The school is currently serviced by three High School morning runs and three afternoon primary-only run i.e., Downs Road, Te Pirita and Ardlui/Dunsandel. Due to a reduction of passengers in Morgans/Saunders Road area, the additional morning service to this area has been stopped. School bus services are contracted to Torlesse Travel Ltd, who currently operates out of Darfield. This year they are experiencing a great deal of difficulty across the Malvern district securing drivers. This has the potential to impact on shorter routes like the primary-only Ardlui/Dunsandel run. My fear is that this service will be amalgamated with the later High School run which follows a similar route departing Hororata at 3.45 pm. This effectively would mean that students would remain in the school grounds for an extra hour after bell time and that we would have to supervise these students in the grounds. This would be a return to bus routes of old, which saw primary students waiting here at school here as late 4.30 pm for the connecting High School service. To protect our transport entitlement, we need the help of the school community to find new bus drivers to work within the Hororata district. This year the role of House Captain is being offered to all Year 5-6 students House Captain Elections (excluding elected Head Students). Profiles of all nominees have been attached to this newsletter. Children with the help of their parents are asked to vote for their choice of House Captain, in their respective school house on the form attached to this newsletter. The top two scoring students in each house will be confirmed as House Captains for 2012. Voting papers are to be put in the Voting boxes outside Mrs Oliver’s Office. All votes must be made on the official voting forms. Voting closes at 3.00pm Friday 17 February 2012. All votes on the official voting form will earn 20 house points for their house. School Transport… This year 51 (85%) of the total school roll regularly travel to and from school by school bus.

The school is currently serviced by three High School morning runs and three afternoon primary-only run i.e., Downs Road, Te Pirita and Ardlui/Dunsandel. Due to a reduction of passengers in Morgans/Saunders Road area, the additional morning service to this area has been stopped.

Have you considered standing for the Board of Trustees? Elections will be coming up early in 2013 and now is an ideal time to put your hand up and find out about what is required for this important governance role. Farewell and Thank You

We have enjoyed the company of Carmen & Mike, Jazmin and Montana and also Jessica, over the past twelve months. Sadly they are moving on.

School House Captains

Introduction Hororata Primary School operates a school house system as part of our behaviour management programme. Children are divided into two school houses i.e., Bealey House (Black), Selwyn House (Gold). New students are placed into a school house by the School Secretary and where possible are family grouped. Staff members are also placed into school houses.

This year the role of House Captain has been offered to all Year 5-6 students (excluding elected Head Students). Students interested in filling this role were invited to either nominate themselves or get a friend to nominate them on their behalf. All nominees had to submit a profile about themselves, which habve been incluided in this newsletter.

Children with the help of their parents will be asked to vote for their choice of House Captain, in their repective school house. The top scoring students in each house will be confirmed as House Captains for 2012.

Note… All students who vote in this election will earn 20 house Points for their House (max. one vote paper per person).

Hororata School House Captains

Introduction. The following students have put their names forward to be School House Captains in 2012. Students will be asked to vote for two

students from their respective school houses. Students with the highest number of votes will be declared House Captains. This is a fixed-term appointment and is only valid for the 2012 school year.
