the Christ Child Society
Columbia Country Club
Saturday, February 25, 2017
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the support, enthusi-
asm and dedication of all Christ Child Society supporters.
Please eat, drink, bid and dance! Know that with every bid you
make, every raffle ticket you buy, every bid card you raise -- you
help improve lives of needy children in our area.
Enjoy being generous tonight!
Last year’s success enabled us to touch more lives than ever.
We provided:
An additional 95,000 articles of clothing and baby supplies in
Layette Welcome Kits
More than 2,000 new books at the Book and Baby Fair at the
Mary Virginia Merrick Center in Southeast, DC
Six weeks of summer camp for 75 girls – a significant
increase over previous years
With your support, Christ Child Society helped keep infants
warm and their mothers on a healthy track. We helped students
aspire through tutoring and counseling services. We empowered
at-risk girls and families.
With Love and Thanks,
Alyssa and Polly

Red Wagon Appeal
During the Christmas season in 1884, Mary Virginia Merrick asked a little boy
named Paul what he wanted for Christmas. Paul replied that he wanted a red
wagon but that there would be no Christmas at his house because his father had
lost his job. Remembering all her own happy Christmas days, Miss Mary sug-
gested that Paul write a letter to the Christ Child, who is “the giver of all good
gifts,” and ask for the red wagon. In a few days, Paul returned to Miss Mer-
rick's side with a handful of letters written by his siblings and playmates. Mary
Virginia gathered her friends and together they filled all the children's Christ-
mas requests and attached tags that simply read “From the Christ Child”. With
these first gifts and the dedication to improve the lives of needy children, the
Christ Child Society was born.
The spirit of the red wagon lives on through the many programs the Christ
Child Society delivers today. This year’s Red Wagon Appeal will benefit the
Girls on the Rise Programs at the Mary Virginia Merrick Youth Center.
Appeal Process
Tonight you have the opportunity to make a tax deductible donation, and make
difference in the lives of children. Your generous support of the Red Wagon
Appeal will allow the Christ Child Society to continue to serve the needs of our
most vulnerable children, as we have done for over 130 years. Please raise your
bid number at whatever contribution level you are most comfortable with.
Giving levels: $2,000, $1,000, $500, $250, and $100. Please raise your bid
number more than once, if you want to give more.
