PSSA BASKETBALL

The Ungarie Central School primary boys and girls basketball teams travelled on the UCS bus to play in the PSSA Basketball

knockout at the West Wyalong Sports Stadium on Friday 31st May, 2019. The Ungarie Central School teams were

scheduled to play the West Wyalong Primary School teams in the knockout, as WWPS were victorious over both Wyalong

Public School teams in the knockout earlier that day. .

The girls team consisted of Rachel Ridley, Evie Henley, Hannah Wilson, Madison Vinecombe, Caitlin Rossiter, Lila Henley,

Kathleen Jackson, Lara Bryant and Allora Vinecombe. (Pictured below right.) .

The girls played off first with a with a very close first quarter score being 5-4 WWPS way. The WWPS year 6 team managed

to get on a roll and the full-time score was 41-27 to WWPS. Although we didn’t win, our skilled and younger Ungarie

team played excellent basketball and showed that they are a wonderful team displaying great speed, shooting accuracy

and very tough defence. .

The boys team included Gavin Ward, Lewis Henley, Patrick McClintock, Ethan Robb, Gus Wallace and Tyler Crofts.

(Pictured below left.) The team played a great game showing enthusiasm, skills and determination with the final score

being 68-14 to WWPS. This was a pleasing result for our Ungarie team considering the majority of WWPS team had

played representative basketball for West Wyalong Wildcats this year. .

Our talented group of Ungarie athletes had a very enjoyable day travelling in on the bus and gaining the experience of

playing basketball indoors at the West Wyalong Sports Stadium. .

Many thanks to Miss Whittaker for assisting to manage and coach the teams, Mrs Wilson for organsing their lunch time

training sessions, Jason Lewis for driving the bus and thanks also to all supporters on the day. .

We are all looking forward to once again playing basketball in our Term 3 Ungarie Basketball Competition. Justine Henley

FORBES EISTEDDFOD

Year 5/6 Drama have been learning and choreographing two poems this semester in preparation for the Forbes

Eisteddfod. The big day finally arrived on Monday 24th June with Team UCS boarding the school bus and heading off at

7am with Ms Whittaker, Mrs Mason and driver Jason Lewis.

Our section was first up on the day and we had some strong competition from the six other classes (all from St

Lawrence’s school in Forbes). It was interesting to see the different interpretations for the set poem, “The Ant Explorer”

and hear a variety of own choice selections.

Our ‘own choice’ poem was “The Cockroach Rap” and we were very happy with how it all went, particularly our

‘surprise’ exit. Gav’s opera solo was also a highlight!

The adjudicator Anne Whale also enjoyed our performance and awarded us First Place, which was very exciting! We

had a photo with her and explained to the committee where Ungarie is. They even asked us if we wanted to enter the

choral section (which was on next) but sadly we had to decline!

After a run in the park we enjoyed lunch at McDonalds and headed home on the bus, tired but happy.

Many thanks to Mrs Payne, who helped in the preparation of our poems in Drama, Ms Whittaker for keeping up the

rehearsals in between classes, and to Jason for doing an excellent job as always of driving the bus. Mrs Mason

Back row: Allora Vinecombe, Lewis Henley, Lara Bryant, Kathleen Jackson,

Alfred McCubbin, Mrs Brony Mason. Middle row: Caitlin Rossiter, Rachel

Ridley, Joshua Batty, Anne Whale (adjudicator), Hannah Wilson, Madi

Vinecombe. Front row: Lachie Ward, Ethan Robb, Mitchell Collins, Gavin

Ward.

SCHOOL CAPTAINS LEADERSHIP PROGRAM

School Captains: Damian Batty and Jared Robb (UCS), Zara King and Charlotte Browne (TCS), Linzi Whiley and Felicity

Baxter (CHS) and Clint Tonogbanua and Lance Yumol (LCCS). Below: In Parliament House.

On Wednesday and Thursday 19th-20th

June, Secondary School Captains from

Ungarie, Tullibigeal, Lake Cargelligo

and Condobolin attended a Leadership

Program in Sydney with school

captains from across NSW. The

students flew from Griffith and Parkes

and enjoyed an afternoon in the city

before having dinner at Centrepoint

Tower.

On Thursday the students visited NSW Parliament House and

met with Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley

AO QC Governor of NSW, discussing leadership skills and

parliamentary processes. They then toured Government

house and gardens and decided it would be a very nice place

to live! Thanks to Mr Cattle (UCS) and Mrs Waller (CHS) for

supervising this wonderful experience for these students.
