IntroductionThe theme of the Inequality BetweenThe Rich and Poor is an underlyingbasis of the book The Hunger GamesInequality between characters of thebook were found between the: Capitoland Districts, Districts themselves, and the wealth of individuals 4. Thesis StatementIn Suzanne Collins novel The Hunger Games, characters experience an inequality between therich and poor which portrays an overall themethroughout the book; and without this theme thebook would not have the same affect on readers. 5. Supporting PointsCapitol vs.DistrictsThe 12 DistrictsThose Withor WithoutMoneyInequality between. 6. Inequality Between Capitoland DistrictsPOINT #1There is a large gap ofinequality between theCapitol and the DistrictsDue to the wealth of theCapitol, they havecontrol over the 12Districts 7. PROOFTaking the kids from ourdistricts, forcing them to kill oneanother while we watch - this isthe Capitols way of remindingus how totally we are at theirmercy.- Katniss EverdeenCOMMENT12 Districts are. Being wealthy allows the Capitol to have power, 8. POINT #2The wealth of the Capitol allows them tohave access to advanced technologycompared to the DistrictsPROOFTwo hundred miles per hour and you can barely feel athing. I think its one of the wonderful things about thisopportunity, that even though youre here and eventhough its just for a little while, you get to enjoy all this!- Effie TrinketCOMMENTmoving vehicle travel so fast. There is a huge difference between 9. Inequality Between the12 DistrictsThere are also wealth differences betweenthe number of the DistrictsThe higher the District you are, the pooreryou, and the less advantage you have inthe gamesPOINT #1 10. PROOFCareerTributes, the kidsfrom therich districtsone to four, haveteamed upto pick offthe weakcontestants. Thisincludedthe playersfrom thepoordistrictsCOMMENTThe lower districts are considered the richdistricts, and being in a lower district gives you anadvantage when it comes to the games. 11. POINT #2Rich districts have an advantage over thehigher number districts as the tributes aretrained all their lives to win the HungerGamesPROOFThe tributes from District 1 are Careers. Careerstrain hard for the Games and volunteer to compete astributes. They are usually overconfident, like most ofthe Careers, but this does not matter for them, forthey are so well trained, that they can immediatelychange their attitude if needed.COMMENTplus the needed training in order to be successful at the Games. 12. Inequality Between ThoseWith or Without MoneyPOINT #1District 12 is said to bethe poorest of all theDistrictsWithin this poordistrict, there is stillinequality 13. PROOF COMMENTWithin District 12 thereis a black market /grocery area called TheHob. People of District12 are able to purchasegoods, although noteveryone is able topurchase these goodsdue to a lack of funds. The fact that not allmembers of District 12are able to participatein what the District hasto offer demonstratesthe inequality betweeneach region. 14. POINT #2 The annual tesseraeOnce a child has claimedPROOFthey can collect oitle asnsde rgarea,in rationsonce a month for a year. This, however, is not enough to ensuresurvival as many still require moneyfor basic needs such as rent, soap, thread, and candles. Tesserae entriesare cumulative, therefore the numberof reaping entries from the currentCOMMENT year are carried over into the next.Every time that an individual applies for tesserae, theirnames goes into the reaping, and is carried over from yearto year. If a family has money and can afford the basicneeds, there is no need to apply for the annual tesserae, thus making it less likely to get chosen to compete in theHunger Games. 15. ConclusionThe theme of InequalityBetween The Rich andPoor is one of the manythemes throughout thebook trilogy seriesWithout this prevalenttheme, the affect onreaders would have notbeen the same without thediversity 16.
