Theft in Middle School By Ishan Garg
Just recently, a theft occurred at our school, which involved the stealing of all the Chromebooks from Mr. Ogawa and Mr. Lozano’s classrooms. As Mr. Ogawa said, “I was confused, I didn't know why everything was all over the place. I thought Mr. Silva was playing a prank on me. It wasn’t a prank. When I walked through the classroom and couldn’t find anything, I knew that the Chromebooks had been stolen. I was scared and I felt violated, but mostly I felt sad that someone would steal from children and take away their access to an education.” After investigation, it was clear that the thieves used leverage to bend the stripe plate on the door and open the lock. This allowed them to get inside and steal the Chromebooks. Although these thieves got all the Chromebooks from two classrooms, to get to Mr. Lozano’s class, they went through Mr. Silva’s which had new Chromebooks. They didn’t steal any of the new ones, only the old ones. They took a few more items, including Mr. Ogawa’s precious Apple mouse. Thefts like this one are common not only in schools, but also in homes. Stay safe and lock your doors.
The Pumpkin Patch By Thuan Do

Walk A Thon By Serena Manwani
Let's get walking!!! On October 14, 2017, EDS is hosting their annual walk-a-thon. This is a great opportunity to get some exercise while talking to your friends, earning prizes, and snacking on some treats. In the past, the food has included hot dogs, popcorn, cotton candy, etc. There are also fun games, like beanbag toss and water barrel fishing. Sometimes, real huskies are brought out to meet with the EDS huskies.
This year, the theme is Emoji Madness! Emojis are fun to use and have been popular for the last couple of years. The recent Emoji movie has increased the popularity of the many faces of emojis. This year, the teacher date custom will continue. As usual, students can win the opportunity to be Principal for a Day. They can also win picnics in the Moreland Woods and fun times with teachers of their choosing. A raffle will also be held for electronics such as an iPhone 7, Beats Solo3 headphones, and an iPad. As well, there will be general prizes for how many laps walked. Some examples are:
1 lap- paw stamp 15 laps- emoji bouncy ball 20 laps- emoji keychain 60 laps- emoji beach ball
Lastly, the walk a thon is a big event. So we need lots of volunteers to help it run. So, if you’re in middle school, volunteer and help make this the best walk-a-thon ever. Come on down to the EDS walk-a-thon and have the time of your life!
Postponed: New date to
be announced soon.

Music Manuscripts: Jazz Band By Trey Johnson
Eighteen middle school students come to EDS at 7:05 in the morning, every Tuesday and Thursday, to make music. This group is the Jazz Band. It takes place in the Band Room, and is led by Mr. Johnson. Jazz Band is composed of many instruments, including trumpet, trombone, saxophone, drums, guitar, and piano. To play in Jazz Band, you need to be in one of the middle school bands or orchestras. In addition to music, students also learn music theory in Jazz Band. For example, Mr. Johnson teaches how to improvise a solo, and what notes to play in the solo.
The Jazz Band is currently practicing four songs: Listen Here, Loosen Up, El Gato Gordo (The Fat Cat), and The James Bond Theme. The Jazz Band will play these songs during the Terrifying Tunes concert, which is on October 27, at the Moreland Woods Pumpkin Patch. The Jazz Band will perform at 7:00 to 7:30 p.m, followed by the MMS Jazz Band, taught by Mr. Bergantz, from 7:30 to 8:00. Jazz Band musicians: get your spook on! In conclusion, Jazz Band is a group of eighteen students who come to the Band Room to practice jazz music on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. If you have a chance to get to EDS early, head toward the Band Room, to see if you can hear the Jazz Band playing. You might even hear a solo! This is T. Johnson, signing off!
The Fall Dance Review
By Thuan Do On Friday, October 29th, E.D.M.S. had its first middle school dance of the year! Loud music, flashing lights, and yummy snacks mixed together to create the event. A D.J. was hired, and most students were dancing and having fun throughout the night. For food they had sandwiches, yogurt, grapes, fruit gummies, popcorn, and more! Starting at 6:30 and ending at 8:30, the Fall Dance was certainly a blast. What will the next one be like?
Tragedy All Around
Here at the Husky News, we are saddened by all of the horrible
events that have been happenings around the world. With
hurricanes, earthquakes and wild fires leaving people homeless and
bereft, we want to send a message of love and support to all of those
who are affected.
It is important that we appreciate all of the wonderful things
and people we have around us, and do what we can to support those
in need. We encourage everyone to step up and volunteer in some
way to help those affected by these disasters.
As we all face the smoke that surrounds us this week, think of
the wonderful fresh air that we normally have, provided by the trees
that are suffering the fires. Sometimes it takes bad times to help us
know what good times we usually have.

Custom Design or Prebuilt PC?
PC in a Box By Joshua Kim
The prebuilt gaming PC. It is
generally overlooked in favor of the more
customizable and sometimes more powerful custom
built PC. However, these often belittled systems
CAN be optimal for gaming.
For one, these computers can come bundled
with additional accessories in addition to the
system itself. These accessories can include a
keyboard and mouse, that is, if the company
decides to bundle their product with those
accessories. However, though these things may
seem a bit more on the minor side, these can
actually save time and/or money, as you won't
have to spend extra time scrounging around a store
or in your attic for a keyboard and mouse for your
system. Additionally, the prebuilt PC can actually
be a steal in some cases. The parts inside a PC
can actually help to make or break a prebuilt
PC’s value. For instance, a graphics card found
in a decently priced PC can be resold at a high
price. Finally, the prebuilt gaming PC is
premade, and saves the hassle of having to go out,
order parts, and all that other stuff. It also allows
for a nice, (generally) uniform look throughout the
system. So, if you need a system, don't go straight
for a custom one, but remember to be sure to
consider your other options…
Special Order PC There are many companies around that offer customers the opportunity to design their own computers. This service is often used by gamers, and tech people. How can these computers be better than the standard store bought computers?
The Holocene Calendar
By Simon Capper
The Holocene calendar was first invented in 11993 HE by Cesare Emiliani. It
suggests that the year by the Gregorian calendar needs to be modified by adding 10,000 years. So, the year we live in today, instead of 2017 CE, Common Era, would
be 12017 HE, Human Era. The extra 10,000 years comes from when the first temple built by humanity,
erected approximately 12,017 years ago, was built. The new year 0 is placed close to the Holocene geological epoch and the Neolithic Revolution. Besides encompassing
humanities’ past as a whole, when we transitioned from hunters and gatherers to farmers, it also makes more sense, as modern scholars estimate that Jesus (Yes, he
was actually a person who existed) was born closer to 10,004 HE, or 4 CE, a valid
point that we should change our calendars. The years of BCE, Before Common Era, are counted in
reverse. The backwards counting can make determining time spans tricky. The production and distribution of this
calendar has started, however, and people are exuberant to buy them. Kurzgesagt, a popular YouTube channel with over four million subscribers, created a video supporting the
idea of the Holocene calendar, and even manufactured their
own calendars to the Holocene style. The calendars sold
out rapidly. The 12018 Holocene calendar is available now on the DFTBA website for a very limited time. Welcome to the Human Era.

Las Vegas Tragedy By Anish Kuttetira
October first, a terrible catastrophe happened at an
country music concert in Las Vegas. A shooter firing from the
32nd floor of a hotel killed 58 people and injured 487 others. It
happened during the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival on the Las
Vegas Strip, and shook terror into the hearts of everyone at the
concert and beyond. The shooter has been identified as 64-year
old Stephen Paddock, who shot round after round of ammunition
from altered guns into the crowd. Paddock altered legally bought
semi-automatic rifles into fully automatic guns. Police found over
23 guns in his room, with more found at his two
residences. Paddock’s motives are a mystery, without him having
any criminal record or seeming mental instability. However, the
shooter had also booked two hotel rooms booking popular music
festivals, but eventually unleashed his carnage here. Around the
world, countries are honoring the victims. Paris turned off all the
lights on its famous Eiffel Tower, while Britain said they would
stay strong with the U.S.A. This unity is just a small bit of good
that comes from something so horrible.
