The positive social impacts of IT

• Social networking sites are huge now, bringing in hundreds of millions of pounds a year. Its big business and everyone wants a part of it.

• There is over 720 million people signed up to facebook!!• Are you one of the people signed up??• IT has been put into every part of our lives, we are dependant on our

computers and smart phones. • Some say that it is a good thing, bringing more ways to contact

The negative social impacts of it

• Others say this is the death of the real life conversation, it means that we often find it easier to talk to people over the internet rather than face to face.

The ethical impacts of IT

• We can keep endless amount of data of on our computers, meaning they are a gold mine for people willing to break the law to steal this “gold”.

• Hacking is everywhere now people are stealing larger and more important information everyday and they are always one step ahead of the security.

• If someone were to hack into your computer what would you lose? You could lose your facebook/myspace login and logins for other things like your school stuff.

• There are lots of laws against this but people still do it and your data will never be truly safe!!

• To protect you from hackers there is a law called the computer misuse act (1990) Stops people from taking stuff from you computer or anything you have on the internet.

The economic impacts of IT

• Because you can just go onto the internet and order things from anywhere to anywhere it is putting local business’ at risk of closing due to cheaper prices and more convenience. Its putting many people out of work and business.

• But on the other hand it is creating many jobs, web designers, graphics designers, software developer ect ect.

• These jobs are very specialised though and to be advanced enough to work you would need to go to uni, which as you probably know costs allot!

• Another problem is what happens when we throw away our mobile phones and other techy stuff. It goes in a land fill site and stays there for the next 1000 years!

• Your internet also costs money and can be £200 a year!!

Unequal access to it• A lot of people don’t have access to computers and it, also some older

people struggle to use it.• There are 300 million computers in the world, and over 20 million of those

are in a• America and Europe that leaves only 10 million for the rest of the world and

there’s over 4 billion people in the ‘rest of the world’.• Could you live without your IPods', Facebook ect??• In Uganda very few people have access to computers and computers with

internet because they cant afford them, access to the internet in places such as internet cafes and such are also difficult to get to as they are few and far between.

• It’s not just because they can’t afford them either, they are big areas of the country that have no phones, which means no internet!!

The legal impacts of IT• It is illegal to do many things in IT such as making a copy of a movie

and giving it to a friend or downloading a game for free that you should have paid for. It is an increasing problem and People are struggling to stop it.

• Also something called plagiarism (long word I know) Is when someone takes a persons work and claims in for their own, such as copying stuff from Wikipedia for your homework!!

• There is a law against this called the copyright, designs and patent act (1998) stops you from giving a copy of something to a friend,

• selling copies to people, • using programs on a network (unless the license allows it) and • renting programs without permission.
