What is your Knowledge of Terrorism?
•The Researcher will now show you several images which are associated with the topic of Terrorism. They are images designed to test your knowledge and ability to identify what is going on in the image. This part of the focus group asks that you write down on a piece of paper, who or what you think the image is ?
•Any Questions?

What does Terrorism mean for you as a member of the Prison Service?
•This part of the focus group will be a open discussion forum of questions about Terrorism and what as a focus group you think about these questions.
•The opinions that the participants give will be recoded by Dictaphone and the researcher will make additional written notes.

2.Who can carry out Terrorism?

6.Do you think that the torture of Terrorist suspects in order to gain information is the right?
7.Where do you learn most of your information about the subject of Terrorism?

•In Part 3 of the focus group, the participants will be asked about what they know about Counter-Terrorism in the UK. This will follow the same pattern as the previous two parts.
•This will be an open forum in which the participants will be asked on their general opinions on Terrorism.

1. What role do you see the Prison Service having in Counter-Terrorism?
2. Do the Practical problems of managing the Prison environment make it difficult to tackle the extremist
threat within it?
3. Atwan (2008) argues that Prisons have replaced Al-Qaida training camps as the biggest source of
recruitment of Extremist Terrorism. What are your thoughts on this?
