House of God

Our pipe organ is nearly 3/4ths of the way toward completion, the old copier was near death and was removed, new computers are needed as old ones no longer fit the advances in technology, two of our boilers will be repaired soon, and a leak in a storage room made quite a mess. We hope our parking lot will survive the win-ter without a major break-up. Keeping a building of our size in good shape takes great care and a lot of energy and resources.

As I child I was totally convinced that God was present at First Lutheran Church in Bellefontaine, Ohio. There were times in my life when I thought that I heard the voice of God as I wan-dered about the building. The dark areas of the basement, even the boiler room with its old coal shoot were places of sacredness because they were in the church. In her book “An Altar in the World” the Reverend Barbara Brown Taylor says “Do we build God a house so that we can choose when to go see God? Do we build God a house in lieu of having God stay at ours? Plus, what happens to the rest of the world when we build four walls … even four gorgeous walls … cap them with a steepled roof, and designate that this is the House of God? What happens to the riverbanks, the mountaintops, the deserts, and the trees? What happens to the people who never show up in our houses of God? (Brown-Taylor, p.9)” Even in the midst of our building, as we gaze upon our beautiful structure on the hill we cannot for a second think that we have some kind of contract with God, that God is present only in our house and not anywhere else, nor is God present more or correct-

ly in our place of worship. If anything we walk in the wilder-ness, and “church” is where the assembly of people come together with the sole purpose of prayer, praise, worship and, in our tradition, the celebration of the holy sacraments. Our building assists us in worship, and is intended for worship, but our relationship with God is not made possible by a building, it is made possible by the spiritual exercise of our hearts.

As we deal with this problem and that problem, I hope we see in each other the love of Christ. I pray that our building will con-tinue to be a place where God can be met, where prayers are said

Formative Formation

Thanks to all of the children who have attended formation classes! We are having a great time and learning so many awesome things. Our children continue to use the SPARK Bibles and a rotation style curriculum while our pre-teens and teens have started using Re:Form. They are able to connect together and ask questions about the Bible. They are having a great time!

If you are interested in leading children’s class please let Ashley know ([email protected]). Les-sons will be prepared for you a week in advance and supplies will be set up in the classroom so all you need to bring is a passion and desire to teach! You can make a commitment that works with your schedule. We do ask

volunteers to commit to at least 3 or 4 consecutive Sunday’s for consistency. We look forward to your help!

Craft Donations Needed! We have an Advent activ-ity planned but we need your help! Please save your toilet paper rolls and paper towel rolls. Please drop off any donations in the church office. Thank you!Thank you to everyone who has donated games for the Game Room! The kids are having a great time! We can still take some more games (especially for the younger kids). You can drop off donations in the church office.

Thank you!

in the wonder of the loving reality of God’s people. Then, when God’s children depart our building and return to their own homes, palaces or street corners, they may continue to feel what it means to be loved, truly loved, as God’s precious children. Keep your faith-light burning dear ones.

Mom’s Monday Mornings

Please feel welcome to join us for "MOM'S MONDAY MORN-INGS". We are a small group of moms that gather the first and third Mondays of each month. We meet in the cozy library at St. Christopher's Church in Grand Blanc. While we cherish an hour of self led reflections and conversations, our children are cared for in the church nursery by Christian women. These volunteer women provide this ministry so moms have the opportunity to engage in conversation, friendship and a HOT cup of cheer!

Arrival begins at 9:30 to ensure all children are settled for moms to have a full hour of fellowship from 10:00 - 11:00. We will meet November 2nd, 16th, and December 7th.

We will be watching for you and yours,Linda Steibel

We are in need of volunteers to help staff the childcare room each Sunday. The only requirements are as follows: be at least 16 years old, complete Safe-guarding class and have a passion to work with children. Childcare is avail-able during the 10:15 am service. If you are interested, please contact Ashley with the dates you are available to volunteer.

If you are unsure if you are in need of Safeguarding please call the parish office or speak with Ashley. Safeguarding needs to be renewed every 5 years and is necessary to keep the children of St. Christopher’s safe.
