THE INDUS SCRIPTS

Imagine that it´s 4,000 years into the futuand the re, civilization as we know it has ceased to exist no books, no electronic devices, no Facebook, no twitter, all knowledge of the english language and the english alphabet has been lost. Now imagine archeologist diggin through the rubble of one of our cities. What may they find? Well perhaps some rectagular pieces of plastic (credit cards), maybe some circular pieces of metal (coins), maybe some cilyndrical conteiner (cans) with some symbols on them. What could such artifacts say about us to people 4,000 years into the future?

In fact this is exactly the kind of question we´re faced with it, when we try to understand the indus valley civilization, which existed 4,000 years ago.

The indus people left behind artifacts with writing on them, like Stone seals, cooper tablets, pottery and surprisingly, one large sing board wich was found buried near the gate of a city, now we don´t know what it says, in fact we don´t even know what any of these objects say, and that´s because the indus script is undeciphered

The symbols are most commonly found on seals. So you see up there one such object it´s the square object with the unicorn-like animal on it, that piece on specifict it´s about one inch by one inch in size, so what were these used for? We know that these were used for stamping clay tags, that were attached to bundles of goods that were send from one place to another, but we still don´t know what it says, so we need to deciphered the script.

The indus script it´s last major undeciphered script in the ancient world.

So since Rajesh Rao creates computer models of the brain, to try to understand how the brain makes predictions, decisions, how the brain learns and so on, he used a computer to learn patterns of the indus script.

The next challenge is how do we read the symbols?

Rajesh Rao came with the idea of how to read the symbols, here is an example.

The problem with this is that in the indus script it has to be in reverse, beacause we already have the symbols we just need to figure out the sounds of each symbol, such that the entire sequence makes sense, they have some theories but they are not sure if they are on the right path.

The question remains. What would they tell us? (the indus civilization)
