I. Historical overview
The modern-day breeding of racing pigeons was set off by merchants in Verviers, Belgium around 1870. The FCI’s official language is English, German, French.
1937 Brussels: Federation Colombophile Internationale (FCI) was established 1938 Brussels: First international exhibition, with 10 nations participating 1939 Cologne: Second international exhibition 1948 London: Federation Colombophile Internationale was re-established 1949 Biannual Racing Pigeon Olympiades was launched 1957 Standard category was adopted

- As the only global pigeon racing body, FCI shapes and develops the pigeon sport and its rules of competition
- Its activities are crucial in ensuring standardization for all racing pigeon competitions organized by different federations
- It safeguards the rules, explores proposals for modification and ultimately decides whether to modify the competition rules
- It also studies the general issues of pigeon racing
- Makes political and strategic decisions
- Designs and modifies the internal organization
- Its main decision-making body is the Congress, which meets once every two years

2. Only the FCI member countries can take part in international races ( for example Grand Prix, World Championship, Olympiades)
3. Racing pigeons will have official international results
4. Can apply the rules created by FCI (for example minimum require ments of electronic systems, chip rings)
5. Applying FCI standards can result more fair and transparent races in the member countries
6. Can participate on international exhibitions, forums, conferences
7. Can recieve the latest results of veterinary studies
8. FCI offers help in the organization of regional programs
9. FCI supports to solve issues of member states
10. Only FCI member countries are allowed to use FCI rings

Competition rules (notices of race) for all competitions and shows orga-nized by FCIThese regulate: - The means of execution - The conditions for entry - The duties and responsibilities of the organizers and the entrants - Competitors’ rights - Doping and disciplinary procedures - ControlThe Chairman or the Secretary General may, if necessary, set up expert workgroups for a definite period to carry out certain duties: - inspectors - instructors - anti-doping experts - location organizers

Only the FCI member countries can take part at the FCI events.FCI competitions (Grand Prix, World Cup, Olympiades) must be ap-plied for in advance, with regular information provided to FCI and/or the competent forum, and subsequently a report on the event (statis-tics, photos) must be sent to FCI.The objective of FCI’s events are to raise professional quality and to maintain standards
