The international sections Les Hauts Grillets is an international school with German, Italian, British and Polish sections. It means you learn the French program and you can also learn with the German or Italian or British or Polish program too. The international pupils study the history and the language of their nationality. There are teachers for each international section. In the Polish section: ‘We have internation secrion six times a week, for literature and for history: the history is about the world but in Polish!’ ‘The Polish classroom is small but very beautiful... There are decorations on windows, a lot of maps and in big it is written ‘Sektia Polska’, it means ‘Polish section’ ‘It is nice to speak two languages because then, when we are big, we can go to a country and we won’t have problems. Sometimes we have a penfriend and go to different countries.’ In the German section: just pupils who can speak German very well can go to the German section. ‘I like it because the teachers are very funny. We often play games.’ The Italian section: ‘I lived in Italy and I want to speak Italian forever.’ ‘This year we are happy to welcome a new teacher from the North of Italy. LIFE AT SCHOOL: - I like the art class because it is very decorated and you can express yourself painting and coloring. - I love chemistry because each week we have one hour for the experiments. - I am very lucky to be in this school. It’s cool to hear many languages. - At school I like my friends and lunch. - I like physical education because I like to learn new sports like baseball. I like music because we learn songs and we sing them. - The days are long and we have a lot of homework to do. I only have fifty minutes for lunch and then I must work for four hours, then it is the end of the schoolday. - At my school there is a nice atmosphere. - In this school, I like the lessons before the Christmas holidays because it’s nice and sometimes there is snow. I like the library but I don’t like it when the lessons are too long. - We have everything in this school. We can learn German, Spanish, English and Latin.

Welcome to Les Hauts Grillets!

It is a school in Saint Germain en Laye. There are about 800 pupils. It is a school with international sections.

LIFE AT SCHOOL:

- I like the art class because it is very decorated and you can

THE HALL!

It is in the middle of the school. It’s a very big room with many yellow lockers. It is the entrance of the school.

THE LIBRARY AND MR SCHNEIDER

It is downstairs next to the supervisors’ office. The library is very modern. There we can work, read or go on the computer to search for information. Mr Schneider is the librarian. He orders books and puts them on the bookshelves. He is very funny.

THE PLAYGROUND

In this school we can play football and table tennis. We can run. There is a big garden with many trees. ‘I think it is the biggest playground of a school in Saint Germain. I love it!’

THE SUPERVISORS

They are very funny, we always speak with them.

PLACES AND PEOPLE AT SCHOOL

AN EXAMPLE OF A DAY AT SCHOOL

‘On Monday I have German international section from ten past nine to ten o’clock. Then I have a break and physical education. From one o’clock to five to two, I have French. After I have math, French, arts and then it’s finished.

‘On Tuesday, I have Latin, break and two hours of physical education. Then, I eat. After that, I have French, mathematics, French and art. I start at 8.15 a.m. and I finish at 4.45 p.m.

We have French four and a half hours a week, math four times a week, geography twice a week, English three and a half hours a week, P.E. three times a week, history twice a week, art and technology once a week, biology, Latin and music once a week.

WHERE IS LES HAUTS GRILLETS?

Les Hauts Grillets is near the Lycée International in Saint Germain en Laye and Fourqueux and near Villene sur Seine and Orgeval.

HOW DO YOU GO TO SCHOOL?

Pupils can take the bus to go to school in the morning and in the evening. There are a lot of school buses! You can also take the RER. There are tracks for bikes. The train station is near the school. Of course you can walk.

‘When I come with the bus I must turn left, go straight on, then I must turn right, go straight on, cross the street and turn left, then I am in front of the entrance of the school.’

WHAT ABOUT THE BUILDINGS?

There are three buildings in the school (A, B, C). In building A, there are French classes. In building B, there are maths, geography classes and classes for the Italian and German sections. In building C, there are classes for the British and Polish sections, English, science, chemistry music and technology.

HOW DO YOU GO TO CLASS?

‘When I come to school, I enter, I go straight on and I turn right. Then I go to the building and I turn left. And this is the supervisors’ office. You go straight and this is the study room. You go upstairs and you turn left. The visit is over!’

To go to class, first you cross the hall, then you walk, you go upstairs and you enter the classroom.

To go to building B, you cross the hall and turn left. After, you go straight. Then, you go upstairs. It’s here!

To go to building C: you go in the hall. You turn right, you go past the toilets and you go straight.

Imagine you want to go to the computer room: you cross the playground, you go to the dining hall, you turn right, you go straight and turn left.
