IP

The Internet Protocol (IP) is the principal communications protocol used for relaying datagrams (packets) across an internetwork using the Internet Protocol Suite. Responsible for routing packets across network boundaries, it is the primary protocol that establishes the Internet.

TCP/IP

The Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) is one of the core protocols of the Internet Protocol Suite. TCP is one of the two original components of the suite, complementing the Internet Protocol (IP), and therefore the entire suite is commonly referred to as TCP/IP.

ISP

An Internet service provider (ISP) is a company that provides access to the Internet. Examples of ISPs are BTinternet, AOL, Tiscali etc.

DNS

The Domain Name System (DNS) is a hierarchical distributed naming system for computers, services, or any resource connected to the Internet or a private network.

URL

A Uniform Resource Locator or Universal Resource Locator (URL) is a specific character string that constitutes a reference to an Internet resource.

A web search engine is designed to search for information on the World Wide Web

Internet History

Vinton Cerf first developed what later became known as the internet i.e. the interconnectivity between computers worldwide in 1973. The invention of the system to place information on this system was later developed by Tim Berners Lee - the World Wide Web (WWW).
