Italian Tribune Sets Anniversary Vacation A s part of the yearlong celebration of The Italian Tribune’s 100 th anniversary, the staff is once again planning an annual Caribbean vacation – this time to an all-inclusive resort at Punta Cana in the Caribbean. Travel with us to dazzling Punta Cana in March 2009 at the Ocean Blue Golf & Beach Resort, one of the most sumptuous resorts on the island. Everything is included in this Punta Cana hot spot surrounded by palm trees and nestled in a tropical forest. Guests may enjoy windsurfing, beach volley- ball, snorkeling, a casino, bowling and rock-climbing. Located in the Domenican Republic, Punta Cana is “a lush limestone plain” with “a ridge of small mountains, shrouded a misty gray” floating above the horizon to the west, while “massive, swaying palms dot reef-sheltered beaches of perfectly fluffy sand, and the occasional rocky promon- tory,” according to David Gibson, writing in the Winter/ Spring issue of Resorts & Great Hotels Magazine. The resort features eight restaurants and a disco, with all meals, snacks and unlimited beverages of your choice including premium liquors in bars. The package also includes nightly entertain- ment and theme nights, with many paid optional excursion packages to explore the island. Some of the favorite excursions include zip line tours through the lush mountains of Bavaro, ATV adventures, sightseeing in Altos de Chavon with its medieval castle, snorkeling in Stingray Bay, swimming with the dolphins, glass bottom boat tours, an outback safari, reef exploration, deep sea fishing, golfing paradise, shopping and more. The pristine beauty of this part of the island is virtually untouched. “Five centuries after Columbus arrived, this place is practically brand new,” says Gibson. It boasts, “some of the best beaches in the Caribbean.” The Italian Tribune is offering a five-day four-night package from March 8-12 and an eight-day seven-night package from March 8-15. Accommodations are all in junior suites and include two queen or one king-sized bed, a large marble finished bathroom, air conditioning, balconies, mini-bars with water, soft drinks and El Presidente beer, cable TV, safety deposit boxes and a coffee maker. A $200 deposit refundable through Dec. 1 will hold your space. All-inclusive prices, including round trip airfare, tips and transfers run $1267.69 for the 4-night package and $1687.69 for the 7-night package. The cruise is offered through Volare Travel, on Hayes, near Canal. To book or for more information, call Linda at (586) 263-4500.
