Publication and advertising information about The Journal
Citation preview
Welcome and thank
you for taking the
time to look at the
Journal. As an independently
owned and run publication, we
rely on the trust and support of
organizations who recognize the
unmatched service we provide to
our readers and staff. Since our
launch in 2007, this support has
helped us flourish into an award
winning publication focused
on innovation and aimed at
redefining student media in the
UK.
Founded in Edinburgh, The Journal
draws as much from the Scottish
capital’s tradition of higher
learning and the arts as it does
from the city’s establishment as one
of Europe’s technological hubs. The
fusion of tradition and innovation
is at the heart of what makes the
Journal unique as a publication;
combined with the loyalty and hard
work of an incredibly talented and
visionary staff - The Journal offers
it’s readership an engaging, timely
and personal way to find out what’s
going on around them.
This is an incredibly exciting time
to be involved in the media: models
are changing, job descriptions are
barely recognizable and there is
a rapidly increasing flow of new
technologies and applications
that help readers get or interact
with the news. The Journal’s dual
mission is to provide the best
possible publication to readers,
and to provide the best possible
experience to our staff. To be
successful in our aims, we must
innovate. Our readers are at the
cutting edge of media consumption,
so we have to be a step ahead in the
ways we provide it. This year we will
introduce a host of innovations in
what we do - from adapting online
advertising methods into print,
news feeds personalized through
machine learning, article scoring
and more.
We are already at the forefront of
student media in the UK as one of
the few independent, student run,
city-wide student publications. This
year we are expanding to Glasgow,
becoming completely unique
amongst student publications and
unparalleled in reader loyalty and
quality of writing and production.
The future is bright; together, we
will build the future of news. We
hope you will join us in the journey.
Yours sincerely,
Devon Walshe, Founder & Publisher
On behalf of the entire Journal team

What our clients and partners say
“The Journal is a popular news-paper which you always see students reading. I was flattered to be asked to be featured in the paper and I was incredibly pleased with the article and how it was received. It gave my products exposure both in print and online which I am very grateful for.”Holly Bostock, jewellery designer
“Working with The Journal so far has been a great experience. The relationship helps open up interesting and creative ways for us to connect with the thousands of young consumers, and it’s a huge advantage to us that the publication is widely read by students from all the local universities. We think it’s a great fit.”
Kerryn Hurley, Press Manager, Scottish Opera

12A commitment to reaching out to local businesses
PREVIOUS CLIENTSINTRODUCTION
The Journal’s commitment to reaching out to local business means that we are always open to suggestions for new working relationships and sponsorship ideas. We already work closely with a number of clients in an effort to maximize their exposure, and a member of our team would be happy to discuss any opportunities for sponsored pages or coverage.
Edinburgh’s only student property listing: The Journal is continuing its partnership with property website Citylets to publish the city’s only
student property listing in print. As a resource of unparalleled value to our readers, the property page has also been of great value to both the publication and our partner.
Branded advertising of distribution points: The Journal is investing in new distribution bins, and is looking for partners interesting in placing their branding on our drop points. If your organization is interested in associating its brand with the journal in the places where it is most respected, please get in touch - we’d love to start working with you
