But the journey has only just begun. This month, at the September 21st Con-gregational Meeting, we will elect new church officers for 2009. The coming year will be a year of change, and that change has already begun to happen. With the opening of the new sanctuary in July our worship attendance in-creased 100 people per Sunday over last year’s summer attendance. We expect that increase in attendance to carry through into September. In antici-pation of this growth, we have increased our staffing level of the congregation. In the last year Tyler Tollefson has joined the staff as Director of Youth Minis-try, Pastor Eric Peterson is working with stewardship, Grief Share, and leading the 9:30 am worship service. DCE Jamie Wagner has taken over leadership as the new Executive Director of Open Arms, and Scott Novak has come on board as our facilities person. There have been some bumps along the way, including a longer-than-expected construction process and unexpected state licensing issues which have delayed the opening of the new Open Arms classrooms. This has caused some financial strain which we expect will continue into 2009. In addi-tion, we have had heartfelt (and sometimes heated) conversations about the Sunday morning worship schedule, and even the eating of blackberries in chil-dren’s sermons in the new building. Plans have been altered, decisions have been made, the work that needs to be done has been done, and we have moved forward together. 14-years ago Christy Shelbrock (now Slone), one of our founding members, suggested that the slogan for Our Savior’s Way be “The Joy is in the Journey.” It was a good choice. This slogan can still be found on the brochures at the greeters table. As I look back over the history of Our Savior’s Way, I can see that there has been plenty of joy in the journey. As I look forward to the future, I can see that there is still much more joy to come. And for me, in addition to the joy, there exists a continued sense of wonder and awe at what God has been able to do among us. Peace, Power and Purpose in Christ, Pastor Bill Mann

Church Council Meeting Minutes

The minutes of the church council meetings are posted in a folder on the bulletin board outside the kitchen of the original building. Please read the copy there, and replace into the folder, so others may access them.

U.S. CONGREGATIONAL LIFE SURVEY

On Sunday, September 28th, Our Savior’s Way will participate in the U.S. con-gregational Life Survey. This survey, from Harris Interactive, is being con-ducted in Christian churches across the country as a way of determining cur-rent trends in American Church life. Please plan to be present in worship on the last Sunday in September so that you can be a part of the process.

VISIT THE OSWLC WEBSITE

You can visit the Our Savior’s Way Website at www.oswlc.org. In July the website received more than 2000 visitor hits. Among the most popular places on the website were the recorded sermons. These website visitors might be members who missed church on Sunday, or potential visitors checking out the sermon and worship service. By listening to a sermon in advance, this may be a way people decide about to where to go to church. We are currently ex-perimenting with actual video/audio clips from our site - maybe a sermon clip in the future or just a short message of hope. The Internet/World Wide Web where our OSWLC.ORG website resides is for many - perhaps most - people in our community the method they use to find out information they need. Thanks to David Kayden, Darren Broemmer and Diane Kreyer for their outstanding work in maintaining our website! If anyone wants more informa-tion, or has ideas to utilize our website both for members and as an outreach to the community, please contact our web-team. — Bill Pfanncuff

GriefShare: Ministry and Seminar New Sessions begin September 15 and 16, 2008

At Our Saviors Way Lutheran Church, we understand the emotional pain as-sociated with losing a loved one to death. In a GriefShare recovery support group, friendly, caring people will walk alongside you through life’s most diffi-cult moments. The seminars, videos, and support sessions are led by people who understand and want to help you cope in a natural, healthy way with the loss of loved ones in your life. GriefShare helps us learn that grieving is a natural process and that crying can cleanse the soul.

The next 13 week series of GriefShare will begin in September. If you partici-pated in some of the first session, please feel welcome to join us again to make up any sessions you missed. New participants are welcome to join our GriefShare groups at anytime. If you or someone you know is struggling with the death of a loved one, please come to GriefShare. You will find the com-fort God provides through His word and the fellowship of others who truly un-derstand your loss. GriefShare Meets:

Mondays, beginning Sept. 15 from 7:00-9:00 pm at Church in the library. Tuesdays, beginning Sept. 16 from 10:00 am-noon at Leisure World. Contact: Beth Anton (703)737-6881 or Pastor Eric Peterson (571)223-2483 GriefShare website: www.griefshare.org.

Friendly People Needed

Do I have a job for you! It’s really easy, all you have to do is be friendly! No, I’m not recruiting for a Walmart Greeter! With the expansion of our church, we need additional greeters to welcome our many visitors. Of course, we all need to do this each week, but we need friendly people who make this their focus each service. On any given Sunday, we typically have 50 + people sign in as visitors, many of them visiting for the first time. Your friendly smile may keep them coming back to the ministry and fellowship of Our Savior’s Way.

Greeters spend about 15 minutes welcoming everyone before the service, and about the same after the service to wish people a good day and to hand out gift bags to first time attendees. People are often in a hurry when they walk in, so post-service greeting is especially important because it gives you more time to welcome a new person, or wish a good week to a member at the end of the service. This is a very important ministry, and you can make it your own style. You can sign up as an entire family, a couple, or an individual. We’ll pair you with other friendly people!

Please pray about it, and see if you are called to extend the hand of friendship on Sunday mornings! Greeters serve once a month (more if you choose) at the service you attend. If you are interested, contact me at [email protected] or 571-223-1719, or Barb Yarbrough at [email protected]. You can also sign up on the website at www.oswlc.org. Thank you for prayer-fully considering this outreach opportunity. — God Bless, Martie Dunnett

Early Communion Class

OSWLC has a policy of communing before confirmation. A child must attend a 6 week “early communion class” with a parent before com-muning. A class will begin in Octo-ber. Please call the church office and register. Normally 5th graders and up may attend this class, but there is no strict cutoff. If you have questions about the class, contact Pastor Wiechmann.

Sunday School Registration

Sunday School registration each year helps us plan for classroom teachers and student materials. You can pick up a form at church and leave it at the church office, or complete the Regis-tration Form on http://oswlc.org/SundaySchool.php and email forms to [email protected].
