The Juice Joint

It was party time at the Juice Joint, the swanky speak-easy managed by the irreplaceable Rosie Marie. For one magical evening, old rivalries were forgotten, old grudges were forgiven and it was time to renew old friendships.

Peace reigned supreme between Notorious Nick Nemetz, Mugsy Malone, Cy Ramsey and Southside Sal. Mayor Biggs and Police Chief Cameron have always been WELL RE-WARDED for forging these idyllic condi-tions. Peace and harmony does indeed rule at the Juice Joint.

Even Paddy Wagon arrived from Boston to ce-ment these friendships and renew previously severed relationships. As Paddy said, “Old friendships never die – they just fade away in unmarked graves.”

The big news of the night was the anticipated casting of the blockbuster talking movie by the multi-talented Producer, Director and Singer Extraordinaire, Hal Hollywood. Rumors had been circulating for weeks of the extremely pri-vate, negotiated auditions of Molly Moll and Dina Diva. Both young ladies are looking to conquer Hollywood, both literally and figura-tively and the rivalry is intense. Dina is a multi talented entertainer and Molly is the gorgeous main squeeze of Notorious Nick having replaced Cindy Butt as the newest lady in his life. Cindy of course, is the beautiful, friendly cigarette girl at the Juice Joint. Word was that Hal was work-ing night and day to create his next star.

Entertainment at the Juice Joint was as always memorable and tonight did not disappoint with the sensuous Dina Diva and her sen-sational back up singers, the Divettes They brought the crowd to its feet with their fabu-lous rendition of Cross Over The Bridge.

Unfortunately, the evening was marred by the untimely, violent passing of Notorious Nick by an unknown assassin. Suspicion imme-diately fell on many of the ladies in his life, including Rosie Marie, his former wife Flora Gadora, former fiancée Cindy Butt and cur-rent fiancé Molly Moll. His complicated liai-sons gave rise to many with a motive to waste him including ex business associate Bernie Booze.

P. I. Pinkerton was charged with solving the crime and he admitted it wouldn’t be easy.

Secrets of course are kept close to the vest so as always everyone closed ranks and be assured what happened in the Juice Joint stays in the Juice Joint.

Marco Island NuVu Awarded Bulk Cable for Countryside!MANAGER’SReport

Mike BradfieldGeneral Manager

As everyone knows by now, Coun-tryside’s existing bulk cable televi-sion agreement with Comcast expires October 1, 2012. The Master Association created a me-dia ad hoc committee to investi-gate the interest in a bulk cable agreement, and to submit a rec-ommendation to the board on a provider if a bulk agreement was desirable. The committee com-pleted its mission, and the follow-

ing recommendation has been accepted and approved by the Master Association Board of Directors. Based on nu-merous surveys and member feedback, the association is overwhelmingly in favor of a bulk cable television agree-ment. After extensive and thorough evaluation and nego-tiations with as many as 6 providers, Marco Island NuVu has been awarded the bulk cable television agreement for Countryside Golf and Country Club. NuVu will also offer Countryside owners valuable discounts on an-cillary services such as telephone and internet.

Over the next several months, you will receive abundant material with respect to NuVu. Infrastructure work is expected to begin in March, and a communication plan will be under way. The club house will host several town hall meetings, and meet and greet opportunities will be available for 4 consecutive weeks this spring. During this time, you will have an opportunity to pre-authorize addi-tional services beyond cable television. Additional infor-mation will be available through e-mail blasts, mailings, and community information meetings. NuVu will also be providing a short presentation at the Master Associa-tion Annual Meeting on March 8, as well as the Presi-dents Council meeting on March 15. There will also be two town hall meetings, March 19 & April 9, at 3pm.

Comcast will remain the Master Association cable televi-sion provider through September 30, 2012. At last check, nearly 40% of our residents still have not received their DTA devices for their televisions. The transition date has been set for March 13. After transition, you will no lon-ger receive your full channel line-up if you do not have some sort of converter box or DTA for EVERY televi-sion. Regardless of the television you might have, you must have a DTA or a converter box. The DTA device is available at your local Comcast store at the corner of Livingston and Pine Ridge Road.

Owners who leave property at the conclusion of season and are not returning until after October 1 will need to return their Comcast cable equipment to the local of-fice. This includes DTA’s, converter boxes, and internet modems. As of October 1, 2012, Comcast will likely shut down all services in Countryside, including CATV, inter-net and phone. Prepare before you leave for the summer by taking back your equipment.

The Master Association Annual Meeting will be held at 9:00 AM on March 8 at New Hope Ministries Church on Davis Boulevard. This year’s agenda (page 3) includes Commissioner Fred Coyle as guest speaker, NuVu cable television, disclose the 2012-2013 Master Association Directors, and address by auditing firm McGladrey and Pullen. I encourage all owners to attend this important meeting, particularly as we have an excellent speaker line-up and valuable updates with regard to cable television. Local association presidents also have a responsibility and obligation to attend to fulfill the quorum requirements. Immediately following the annual meeting, there will be a short board meeting. The agenda for this meeting in-cludes the election of officers, as well as approval of any delinquency suspensions.

Last season, all owners and renters were invited to com-plete a detailed survey related to Countryside amenities, services, and facilities. This was the first step towards es-tablishing a strategic plan. Since that time, the board has adopted a mission, vision and values, as well as strategic focus areas and long term goals. The club management team has since detailed a series of plans to support the strategic goals. These plans are being reviewed by the Board of Directors, and a subsequent board workshop is being planned to offer further discussion, prioritization, and deployment timeline. The strategic plan will become the compass of the organization, used by both manage-ment and the board with regards to decision making, budgeting, and commitment of resources.

Finally, each year there is a spike in crime in Naples dur-ing peak season, and this year is no exception. As always, please be vigilant and use prudent precautions. If you see suspicious behavior, call 9-1-1 right away and report the activity to law enforcement. No amount of safety and security can ever eliminate criminal activity, but it’s im-portant that everyone use good judgment. Often times, criminals are opportunistic by nature, and take the path of least resistance. By taking precautionary measures like locking your doors and windows, criminals are more like-ly to move on to easier targets.

Highlighted Golf Winners!

I would first like to congratulate Judi Johnson. She is our 2012 La-dies’ Match Play Champion. She won a hard fought final match over Eileen Femia. Winning the consolation stroke play event was Ann Marie O’Neil with a net 67, followed by Eva Stepanek with a net 68.

Our 2012 Men’s Member-Mem-ber Championship was won by Bob Davis & Gerry Silva. Their 2-day total was 112, 57 on the

first day and 55 on the second day. They put together two consecutive days of great golf, our congratulations to our new champions. The 4 flight winning teams were: Flight 1 – Bob Gamble & Craig Root with a final score of 114 Flight 2 – George Greenwood & Mark Spadola with a final score of 116Flight 3 – Mark Lessard & Chuck Kabis with a final score of 115Flight 4 – Bill Kemper & Bill Eckstrom with a final score of 117

I would also like to thank all of you for your help and co-operation with our pace of play policy. Our overall pace of play has really improved on both open play and league days. We also appreciate your help and cooperation in making sure that the ladies leagues have priority on the range on Tuesdays for their league events. Both programs seem to be going well. Thank You.

Since things went so well last time we asked for some-thing, we are going to try to ask for two more things. We would like to ask for your help and cooperation in letting us know in advance when you have to cancel your tee time. We usually have some names on stand-by, but we cannot get them out to play unless we know there are available openings. The second request is if you are play-ing in an open play shotgun please arrive early to check in. When the majority of players try to check in 15 min-utes before the shotgun starts, we run into congestion and lines in the golf shop. We appreciate your help and coop-eration with these two matters.

I only have one last item concerning league play that came up during our golf committee meeting. It is important to know that when you sign the scorecard, you are say-ing that everything is correct on that card and all of the rules were followed during the course of the round. Each competitor has an obligation to the rest of the field to call a penalty if one is broken. If the penalty isn’t called, he or she is affecting the outcome of the competition. We try to run fair competitions throughout the year and the only way to ensure that this happens is if all of the competitors protect the rest of the field by making sure the scores are correct and all of the rules are followed.

Thanks for a great season. Happy Golfing!

COUNTRYSIDENews7

Yes, March is here and more of the busy season is behind us than ahead of us but we still have a full two months of great events and dining opportuni-ties. St. Patrick’s Day, the Bye-Bye Birdie Farewell Party and Master’s Ball are all yet to come and we are anticipating a great time for all three. In addition we have great music every Wednesday night at our Dine

and Dances, the 2nd of our Thursday Night Concert Se-ries is being held this month, and our ever popular Sun-day Breakfast Buffet will continue through Father’s Day. We also have Lobster and King Crab nights planned for March and April. Our department has every intention of doing as much as possible to delay your departure up north by providing as many tempting events as possible!

One of Countryside’s long serving Food and Beverage Department employees has recently retired. Congratula-tions to Larry Rutter on his retirement. Larry worked tire-lessly behind the scenes as a dishwasher for the more than 10 years. Larry was very de-

pendable, arriving to work on his Scooter every morn-ing to help take care of Countryside’s members. Larry’s hard work and dedication were greatly appreciated by his peers and his managers and he will be missed!

We are well into the process of event and calendar plan-ning for next season. If there is an event or theme that you would be interested in participating in, please let me know. We are always looking for great new ideas to add to next year’s schedule!

Enjoy the great weather that March always seems to bring and we hope to see you in the Clubhouse often!

Great Events & Dining Opportunities!

Online Course Beautifcation TipsWe hope that all our members and guests are enjoying the beautiful weather we are having here at Countryside. Our golf course has had many rounds played this season with many more to come. Here are a few helpful tips from the United States Golf Association to help keep our course in good condi-tion, while being courteous to other golfers.

Before leaving a bunker, players should carefully fill up and smooth over footprints made by them with a rake provided. Players should carefully repair divot holes made from a golf shot by filling the hole with sand pro-vided and stepping down to smooth. Players should repair ball marks on the greens with a repair tool and tamp down to ensure smoothness. And care should be used when operating a golf cart not to make sharp turns or brake suddenly, especially on uneven terrain.

These are just a few of the quotes from the USGA as it refers to golf etiquette. There are some really helpful videos from the USGA for each of these subjects on our website. Please go to our Home Page and click on to Management Team, then click on Course Superinten-dent. You will then be able to click on each video under Help Keep Countryside Beautiful. While the videos are only 5 minutes long, they are filled with great informa-tion for first time or experienced golfers.

Happy Golfing!

I hope everyone is enjoying the season so far. I know the pro-shop has been extremely busy. We have been booked solid on the tee sheet. And sales in the shop have been very good as well. It’s nice to see you all taking advantage of the buyer’s club. And don’t forget, to use those sweeps before they expire, if you don’t want to lose them.

By now many of you have come in to see what’s new. The Jamie Sadock line is very popular. And by the time this comes out we should have the new DKNY on the floor. Remember, this is just a small selection of their product. If you like it, and want to see it in the shop next year, please let me know. Of course the best way to indicate that is through sales. So again, if you don’t see the size you need, come and see me, so I can order it for you. They carry sizes extra small-XX Large in tops and size 2-18 in bot-toms. Not everything is available in every size, but I will be happy to check for you.

With St. Patrick’s Day just around the corner, we have a large selection of green in the shop for both men and la-dies. Some of it, like the men’s group from Nike, will really help you stand out. I love seeing you guys in bright fun colors. Adidas also has a great green group, paired with a wonderful purple. For the ladies, I have a soft green and blue group from Sport Haley, with some wonderful matching bracelets made from Swarovski crystals. They are really beautiful, and make great gifts.

There are lots of other new items that have come in, please stop by and take a look. And remember, because of the “Buyer’s Club”, we will not be having a big end of the sea-son sale, like we usually do. The best way to take advantage of a great price is to join the club, if you haven’t already. And shop while the selection is still good. No one will get a better price than our Buyer’s Club members.

As a year-round resident of 20 years (we abandoned our his and hers families in 1992) I can say with all sincerity, Murder at the Juice Joint was the best event we have ever attended at Coun-tryside and there have been many memorable affairs. Our home grown talent enjoyed entertaining us as much as we enjoyed being entertained by them. Our wonderful, efficient kitchen under the direction of Chef Anthony prepared and served a delicious, cooked to order pasta buffet.

As always, the food and beverage team unobtrusively handled their assignments so as not to distract in any way from our multi talented Countryside Players and their performance.

Stay tuned for more memorable special events before the end of season and our “snowbirds” head north. You share with us memories to last a lifetime.

This Season at Countryside

The Master Association’s Annual Meeting will be held on Thurs-day, March 8 at 9AM at New Hope Ministries Church on Da-vis Blvd. In addition to Phil Newman of McGladry Pullen who will inform us of Countryside’s financial status, our other fea-tured speaker will be Collier County Commissioner Fred Coyle. Since the county went through a redistricting process recently this will afford us the opportunity to welcome Commissioner Coyle to Countryside’s annual meeting for the first time and for him to get to know us and our concerns. Both our General Man-ager, Michael Bradfield and Finance Director, Jeff Jacob will offer remarks concerning operations and our finances. The Master Board has authorized a change in our bulk media provider. The new provider, NuVu will begin the transition pro-cess as soon as possible after the final contract has been signed. Comcast will continue to provide service until October at which time NuVu will take over. Improvements to our cable infrastruc-ture will enable our members to receive a quality signal for many years to come. The Media Committee led by Master Board Di-rectors, Tony Scanzillo and Mike Lembo have provided our com-munity a great service by sorting through the various options and making a well reasoned recommendation to the board. Dominick Festa has served Countryside with distinction from the very inception of our community. He was selected by the developer, US Homes to be on the first member board. In 1991 he was on our first elected Master Board. He was elected Mas-ter Board President in 1993 and again in 1994. He has also served on the Executive Committee as Treasurer for the past three years to cap off his service on 17 boards. Dominic has seen many changes in Naples and in Countryside over the past twenty-five years and has been instrumental in many of the positive advancements that have taken place during this time. With the loving support of his wife Ellie he has devoted a tre-

mendous amount of time, energy and thought to his duties in service to his community. Dom’s reward is the gratitude and es-teem he has earned from his friends and neighbors for his many years of service. His guiding principle has always been to do what is best for Countryside. So when you see Dominic Festa around Countryside please offer him your thanks for a job well done.

The Master Board will welcome his successor from Country-side Condos who will be announced and introduced at the annual meeting. The directors returning to the board for the 2012-2013 term who were unopposed are Kenneth Laycock, Country Hollow; Tony Scanzillo, Single Family Homes; and Gerald Silva from Country Manor. My term as Master Board President expires at the conclu-sion of the annual meeting and I have requested that I not be considered for a third term or for a position on the Executive Committee. I have given my best for the past four years and have learned a great deal about our community and what it takes to guide us during very challenging economic times. It has been a wonderful experience and a great privilege to have served in a leadership role. The best times were when I had the opportunity to work with fellow board members, volunteer committee members, the Presidents Council and in particular Bob Land, and our talented and dedicated staff. I have greatly enjoyed working closely with General Manager, Mike Bradfield and the entire administrative staff. However, just as there is a time to step forward and lead there is also an appropriate time to step aside to make way for fresh ideas and renewed energy. I feel confident that the Master Board leadership will continue to be in good hands and that our tradition of capable leaders will continue. I know that you will give our next president the same encouragement and support that you so graciously gave to me.
