Brother Knights,
Thank you for empowering me with great responsibility to lead our council. I’m excited for what lies ahead! Thanks to all the retired offic-ers for serving this past year. You inspire us with your service, For the new officers, welcome! I look forward to working with you this year.
Our fraternal calendar is once again filled with fundraising and service activities. I encourage you to stay active in the council. We need your help. Remain visible – not just at our meetings but at every event pos-sible. Promote our council so that we inspire the next generation of Knights for St. Laurence. You play a key role in the recruiting cycle.
Last month has been a busy month for us. We started July with KC Holy Adoration and VA Hospital visit. Proud to say KC11343 led the way and the VA coordinator was very appreciative of our presence. We had a nice Installation of Officers and met our new Dis-trict Deputy Mike Appling. Mike replaced Worthy DD Ron Frerich who has now taken a new Dis-trict under his wing. We wish him well and we’ll miss his wisdom.
We celebrated our 25 year Council Anniversary by honoring our Past Worthy Wardon Doug Turner. The evening was fun and we were fortunate to have Father Drew, several Past State Officers and Diocesan Delegates in attendance. Brother Doug was presented with an Award of Appreciation for his faithful 25 year service. We presented Sir Knight Edward Young with a Knight of the Year award. The family of Greg Clement was awarded Family of the Year. Finally we awarded DD Ron Frerich with an Award of Appreciation for his outstanding service to District
76. On that weekend, our council’s 25 year anniversary was highlighted in the Sunday Bulletin.
Special thanks to Sharon Ehrenkranz and Brother Ron Martinez for helping promote the Knights of Columbus.

The Value of Life Insurance for Children
As a father, you worry about your children and do everything you can to protect them. You try to raise them right and make sure they are prepared to become adults. But have you ever thought about buying life insurance for your child?
When you insure a child, you are protecting his or her future. Did you know that one out of every six adults get rated, postponed, or denied for insurance coverage? If you purchase a policy for your child from the Knights of Columbus it includes a guaranteed purchase option which guaran-tees more insurance can be purchased for or by that child at 7 specified ages up to 40, without proving insurability.
Unfortunately, as fathers we don’t have a crystal ball, and we don’t know what the future may have in store for our children’s health. But did you know that right now you can purchase a child’s policy, in many cases, for less than $10 a month?
I’ve heard it said that people don’t want to “profit” from the death of a child, so they won’t pur-chase coverage on their children. God forbid something tragic happens, those funds can come in handy at a time when finances will be the last thing on a parent’s mind. I have never heard a story about someone who regretted buying coverage on their child.
Contact me today to discuss the many policy options for child plans, including 10- and 20-Pay life insurance.
This is just one example of the many benefits your KC membership offers you, regardless of what stage of life you are in.
Fraternally yours,
Brother Marty Gibula 713-823-9182 [email protected]

Deacon Prayer:
Lord, give us a mind that is humble, quiet, peaceable, patient and charitable - and a taste of your Holy Spirit...in all our thoughts, words and deeds.
O Lord, give us a lively faith, a firm hope, a fer-vent charity - and a firm love of you.
Take from us luke warmness in meditation and all dullness in our prayer.
Give us fervor and delight in thinking of you, your abundant grace and your compassion.
Give us, Good Lord, the grace to work for the things we pray for.

PRAYER FOR THE UNBORN
We should make it a habit to pray daily for the lives of the unborn. Here is a very short and easy to remember prayer by Archbishop Ful-ton J. Sheen:
Jesus, Mary, Joseph, I love you very much. I beg you to spare the life of the unborn child that I have spiritual-ly adopted, who is in danger of abortion. Amen.

My Brother Knights,
It is a pleasure and an honor to represent you and our Order as your Membership Director for this Fraternal year. Continued growth is critical for the success of our Council. New members invigorate, expand, initiate, and sustain our very success-ful Council and all our Activities.
We all are an integral part of the Membership committee and we must take the initiative to ask a potential practical Catholic Man to join our ranks. Our Council has been successful with hosting a Fall and Spring Informational night. Our next K of C Informational Night will be October 23, please mark your calendars and invite a potential candidate to attend. We are fortunate to have two ac-tive First Degree teams in close vicinity willing to support our Admission Degree needs.
Please contact me if you know of a potential candidate that is willing to join. Please have them complete the Form 100 Admission Document. There are multiple ways to initiate the admission process:

Continued from p. 1
At the Officer’s meeting, I announced the creation of two new committees, New Programs and Succession Commit-tee. The New Program committee will focus on creating new activities that follow our Faith in Action program model. We need a new activities to attract and keep new members, The New Program Committee will be co-chaired by Co-Program Directors Greg Cordova and Edward Young. The four Program Directors will serve on this committee.
The Succession committee will focus on the council vitality and identify future leaders. Our member demographics will change over the next 5 to 10 years. We need to develop new leaders so that our 25 year legacy continues. Our Chancellor Tom Barry and PGK Gary Arrington will co-chair this committee.
This month we have our annual Labor Day brisket sales. Come out and help us. Don’t forget I have Football Frenzy tickets with your name. Help us keep our State per Capita costs down by purchasing a saver membership for $10. You will automatically be entered in the Football Frenzy Sweepstakes.
Be on the look out for details on upcoming activities.
Now the fun begins!
JD Gutierrez,
Grand Knight
Hello Brother Knights, Welcome to the new Fraternal Year! My name is Tom Barry and I thank you for electing me your Worthy Chancellor for this year. My family has been parishion-ers of St. Laurence since 2007 and I have been a Knight since 2012. My wife and I have 2 children, one a sophomore at Duchesne Academy and our son is in 7th grade at St. Laurence. As a parishioner, I was one of the main chairpersons of the Bazaar for about 5 years (I was lucky to be in the 2 years we didn’t have a bazaar!) and have now been on Discipleship Council for 2 years. As a Knight, I participate often at the Fish Fry, mainly helping to cook beans and spaghetti, and love participating in the Pillows and Blankets around Christmas. It was great to see the picture on the front of the bulletin this week with so many Brother Knights attending the 25th Anniversary mass and how strong we are as a council! 1 Peter 4:10 says “As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace” and as Chancellor, my main duty is to strengthen your interest in our council’s activities throughout the year and help you as Catholic men and Knight to find a way to use your gifts for the community. We offer a plethora of ways to get involved and serve our community, you just have to take the leap. You do not need to be involved in ALL activities, but I challenge each of you to find the events that drive you and become extremely active! Whether it is helping at the Fish Fry, visiting the veterans during the VA visits, helping during the Special Olympics, setting up/taking down at the bazaar, or any of the many other activities that occur during the fraternal year. I also challenge each of you to attend our business meeting as often as you can and bring another Broth-er Knight who hasn’t attended in a while. Together, we can make this fraternal year the most active in our 25-year history! Thank you, Your Worthy Chancellor Tom Barry Council 1133

Brothers, My name is Edward Young, a resident of Sugar Land for 18 years, and a member of Council 11343 for 3 years. A little over a year ago, I was asked by our Worthy Past Grand Knight Duong Nguyen to serve as Director for our Life Program. As Knights of Columbus, we commit ourselves to defending life in all it’s stages. As a council, we have robust activities that support this program. The major ones include volunteering for the Spe-cial Olympics, praying outside abortion facilities, participating in our 2nd Sunday Rosary for the Unborn and the Novena for Life, providing financial assistance and volunteer hours to pregnancy centers, and joining in the March for Life in Austin and the Life Chain in Sugar Land. Brothers, I ask that you lead your family and involve them in putting our Faith in Action by participat-ing in any of the many opportunities we have to show our support and respect for life. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or would like to suggest other activities we can look into. Vivat Jesus! Yours in Christ, Edward Young Life Program Director Council 11343

Dear Brothers, My name is Kirk Hill, I am a 3rd degree Knight. I joined the Knights of Columbus a little over a year ago and became a knight in a day on June 3rd 2018. Since be-coming a Knight I took over the Council Emergency Response Coordinator duties. This calling has the responsibility of assisting the Council and District in coordinating responses to any disaster no matter how large or small. When a disaster comes to your door there are no small disasters. If you are interested in helping out with a truck, your back or your brain be sure to let me know. I am always looking for someone to share this opportunity for service. My current position is as the Council Community Director. What does the Community Director do you ask? His Holiness Pope Francis in the opening lines of Evangelii Gaudium invites “Christians, everywhere, at this very moment, to a renewed personal encounter with Jesus Christ.” Our Faith in Action program extends this calling to Knights of Columbus members and their families to live out this calling of their faith. Stay tuned to the newsletter and email blasts for opportunities to serve and be served by our Council members. If you see something that strikes your fancy please let me know. If you have ideas of how to serve the community I especially welcome those because no one person has all of the answers and we are always looking for additional ways to encounter Jesus through service. Worthy Brothers, As your new Financial Secretary, one of my key responsibilities is the collector of dues and keeping everyone current on their membership. Our council is a very active and successful organization, everyone see the great work we do within the parish and in our community. As Catholic men, we are all at different stages in our lives, young out of college, newlyweds starting a family, transitioning to seeing the kids grow up and go away to school, and finally empty nesters planning for retirement. All along the the way, the Knights give you a chance to stay connected with a group of men just like you at different stage in our journey serving God. Even though you can’t work every event, can’t make it for 6 weeks of fish frys or 2 nights of the bazaar the great thing is that opportunity is there at any time to give back because our council has so much going on at St Laurence. The Knights give you that opportunity to be involved, and do it with men in the same walks of life. By just staying current on your dues, you have that ability to come share your catholic journey with guys in the same boat by volunteering at any of the many events and going to the meetings to just be with the guys and see how you can get involved. In the next month, I am going to start emailing out another round of late requests, and I am asking if you see a name on the list of delinquent dues and you know that person, please ask them to come back. If they have been delinquent several years, ask them to talk to me we’ll work some-thing out to get them caught up and back in the council. We are all here for each other and to serve God in our community, let’s remember we are stronger together and stand for the great pillars of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism.
