There are a lot versions of this legend, some more popular than others but

all of them are important because they have been transmitted

for a very long time generation by

generation.

Some people don’t believe that this woman was real and they believe that was only a invention of people, only a story; other people believe that this woman appeared and all of the

legends have a real part, a small part of the people saw her walking and heard her

moan.

I´m going to show you some of these legends that surround La llorona:

On the first age of the Colonial Mexico there was an indigene woman with a great amount of beauty that she became enamored of a Spanish, after they had three children, but he never married with her, and he almost never visited, sometime later he got married with another woman just for interest. When the indigenous woman realized the betrayal was crazy and killed his three children, and the drowning in the river, when he realized that he did, in the instant that she felt so bad decided to commit suicide. From this fact, your soul does not have a break, so that every night she tries to find her children crying for their deaths.

Many historians think that “la llorona” is from Mexico, in the culture that Mexico has it mention some gods like “Cihuacóatl”1 the female god of the mexicas, middle woman middle snake, the legend said that she exit from the lake of Texcoco and she cry for her sons, this legend have some coincides with “la llorona” bout shout and cry at night and exit or have a relation with the water.

In Mexico (1521-1810) people said that they heard and saw her, the scare was too big that cause that the habitants in a determinate hour of the day they should staid in his houses trying to evade this woman with terrifying moans.

• This legend every November 2nd is remember in Mexico, it have a play that one woman represent “la Llorona”

In other countries In Chile they meet “la llorona”

like La Pucullén the legend say that started when she was young and was pregnant then some people take away her baby, and they believe that se cry until the last day. Only the people that are going to die can see her, or people with special abilities.

In Colombia is a ghost of a woman that walk around the mountains, near the lakes, that dress a black dressing gown, she has black , large and curly hair; her face is a skull with eyes totally white with a dead baby in her hands and she cry blond tears.

Other countrieIn the legend of Guatemala the

version is different because first she cheat on his husband and she become pregnant, time later she decided to kill her sons because she was too scare that husband could know the true, next when she did it, started to thinks that was a terrible idea and then she made suicide. Which is why it is doomed to repeat until the end of time his cry of “Oh my children”.
