PRAYERS FOR OUR RELATIVES & FRIENDS SERVING IN THE MILITARY
Parish Offices are Open
We are asking that everyone either call or email the rectory before coming
to the rectory. If you are looking to purchase a Mass card, we ask that you call and we will hand it through the door. We thank you for
this time of transition and we look forward to seeing everyone soon.
To Our Fellow Parishioners
The Safety Ambassadors would like to thank all of you that have been attending Masses in our Collaborative since we reopened. We know that the changes that have been put in place during this time may seem confusing and like an invasion of privacy but, these are unprecedented times and everything is being done to assure your safety.
We appreciate your understanding when we ask for your name and contact information knowing that your safety is our first concern. We want to assure you that the only people who have access to your information is the Parish Secretary in the event that we need to contact anyone about an infected person being at a Mass that you attended.
It is the prayer of everyone in this ministry that the need for us to be here is temporary however, as long as we are needed, we are willing to support our Collaborative to keep the doors open so that everyone who wishes to attend and pray as a community as well as share in the Eucharist can continue to do so safely and without concern. This is our goal and our commitment to you as our Collaborative family and as brothers and sisters in our Lord Jesus Christ.
Thank you for your continued understanding and kindness.
with God's Blessings

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
Reception of Holy Communion: “During this time of public health concerns, we are temporarily suspending distribution of communion on the tongue and invite the faithful to reverently receive the Eucharist in their hand. This directive is motivated by care and concern for the health of our people, especially those who are most vulnerable. As soon as the need for this temporary policy has passed and it will be safe to do so, we will return to the practice of distribution of communion on the tongue”.
This message was given by Cardinal Sean O’Malley through the Archdiocese of Boston the first week of March, before the current pandemic closed us down. Masses have begun again in both of our parishes and we are grateful to the work of our Safety Team and the Ambassadors for all of their work prior to opening. Their ongoing work as seating coordinators and sanitizers for our masses is helping us to stay open. Distribution in the hand is still required and Holy Eucharist distributed on the tongue is not allowed.
An incident occurred in a one of Our Churches a couple weekends ago, and a great deal of disrespect was shown towards our Safety Team Members and the Clergy before Mass and continued for quite some time at Holy Communion. Unfortunately, a few people left the Church fearing for safety. This person was obviously very troubled, especially when she became so argumentative and loud at Communion time. Others have spoken to me and written to say they have a “right” to receive communion on the tongue. All I can do is explain the obvious reason why the Archdiocese has made the decision we follow. To date, four Catholic Churches have had to close since reopening due to Covid-19 and failure to follow state guidelines. I presume people want both of our parishes to stay open for the foreseeable future. When the Archdiocese allows Communion on the tongue again, we will resume it for those who wish to receive on the tongue. Many people have cited literature and what is being done in other dioceses. I can only explain why we are following here what the Archdiocese has asked us to follow.
We are going to try to conserve energy by only using the Air Conditioning system when absolutely necessary to try and help the financial condition of the Parishes. On the hot Saturdays, we will make the Church comfortable for Mass. The AC units have fans and we can use those to move the air around. Someone mentioned not having lights, but many bring missals to mass to follow along the readings and it would also be a safety issue to not use lights. So, we need to leave the lights on during Mass. As I stated previously, both parishes availed themselves to the CARE act which has helped with paying salaries in both of our churches, as well as, the School and our other entities. The Archdiocese has said Parishes should anticipate budgets based on current giving levels for about 2 Years. That being said, the 2020/2021 Budget will reflect the roughly 15 -20% drop in collections. We will report what is being collected at the Masses people are attending over the weekend. Many parishioners, who are still participating in Mass on TV, also continue to support our Parish. The Business Manager, Finance Committee, Deacon Paul Breadmore (Co-Administrator) and I will be working on the budget as the summer progresses. There will definitely need to be changes with staff, as salaries and benefits are a very large part of the budget.
Looking towards the Fall, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) final guidelines have not been issued yet. They may be similar to the preliminary guidelines reported in the media. The Archdiocese has hosted many webinars to get input and feedback about schools. Sadly, some Catholic Schools will not be reopening in September. We are grateful to our School Principal, Mr. Matthew Collins, and the dedicated Teachers and Administration of our school. Their commitment since the beginning of the Pandemic has been nothing short of extraordinary. Our school parents and staff are excited about the 2020 -2021 School Year. With regards to Religious Education, the diocese has conducted webinars as well and is telling each parish to have plans for online religious education, at least to start. So, we are working on that probability, which will take time to plan. We will forward information on the program as a more definitive plan is set in place.
When looking at the notes I had written over the weekend preparing for my Pastor ’s Notes, I started with two words - uncertainty and prepare. We have heard both of those words a lot since March. The Church is doing its best to respond during these uncertain times and planning when and where we can. I remind people - be certain of God’s love. Yesterday was the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ: “God so loved the World that He Gave His Only Son”. We are grateful that the depth of God’s love has been shown to us. May we remember to share it! Peace and Blessing - Father Tom
