Major player in the Romanian FMCG market Rio Bucovina has been a customer of Sidel since 1993, when it first purchased two Sidel SBO16 blow moulders. The company recently reduced energy usage by up to 47% by installing a new Sidel SBO10 Universal 2eco blow moulder at its production facility in Vatra Dornei. It also collaborated with Sidel on a new bottle design for its still water, reducing the weight of bottles by up to 45%.

Established producer in a strong position Perceived as a ‘natural’ soft drink, bottled water in Romania is inexpensive and seen as a healthier and more reliable option than the tap water of poor quality generally available. Domestic brands dominate through tradition, brand recognition and affordable pricing. With an annual growth of around 5%over recent years, sales of bottled water have seen the consolidation of the established, domestic brands.

when compared to other blow moulders

Reduced preform heating time by 15%

Lower blowing pressure adds to savings

New bottles weigh up to 45% less

- from 31.5g to 43g for 2 litre bottles

- from 22.0g to 12g for 0.5 litre bottles

47% reduction in consumption of electrical energy Following the success of earlier projects and the trust built between both companies over more than 20 years, Rio Bucovina acquired the SBO Universal 2eco blow moulder for its plant in the Carpathian mountains. Cristian Serban, Business Development Director of Rio Bucovina, says: "The SBO Universal 2eco, along with its Ecoven, has substantially cut costs for us, reducing the new line’s energy consumption by 47% when compared to other blow moulders we might have chosen.”

Less energy, lower air pressure making high quality lighter bottlesEcoven technology requires fewer heating modules and lamps, with the preform-heating time reduced by up to 15%. Power consumption is substantially decreased and the use of installed power lowered. Ecoven's large heating reserve and fast heating ensures there is no slow-down in production, delivering excellent heat treatment precision to ensure bottle characteristics are consistently replicated. Rio Bucovina also now benefits from the reduction in air consumption of the SBO Universal 2eco, which again adds to savings in production costs. The redesigned Bucovina bottles, characterised by their very modern and elegant style, weigh considerably less than the previous ones – 31.5 grams compared to 43 grams for 2 litre bottles; 24 grams compared to 39 grams for 1.5 litre bottle.
