The “Interview ”
Mr. Bailey
By: William R. Xochi T. and Sophia E.
Recently, we had the chance to interview Mr. Bailey. Mr. Bailey
has always liked Bradley Middle School. He has two children who
have graduated from Francis Bradley Middle. He stated he always
wanted the middle school experience. Mr. Bailey said the learning pro-
cess here at Bradley is very different than at the high school level. He
really likes how there is an individual focus on each student.
Mr. Bailey has been in education for 35 years with 22 years being
part of C.M.S. Mr. Bailey has a positive experience at Bradley. He
enjoys all the 7th grade students as well as getting to know other stu-
dents throughout the building. He has been very welcomed by the
staff and students. Mr. Bailey is enjoying himself here at Bradley. His favorite thing he’s noticed around Bradley is how clean and well
kept the school is on a daily basis. The are many activities the kids are
involved with here at Bradley. Having this time to talk to Mr. Bailey
has given us an opportunity to get to know him just a little bit better.

Candy Grams
By: Stephen S
What Are Candy-Grams?? Candy-grams are a tradition every December 14th where stu-dents deliver candy canes with friendly messages on them to other students schoolwide. The text-treats are primarily cherry-flavored and about the size of your everyday candy cane. These red and white striped treats have a nice message such as “Merry Christmas!" or “You’re awesome!” attached to it. You have two days to order and choose which homeroom to have them deliv-ered on December 17th. What exactly are Candy-Grams? The Maverick Times has the scoop on these delicious messages.
How It Works
Every December, all students are able and encouraged to send Candy-Grams in the form of candy at Bradley Middle School. It costs only 50 cents to buy one, so your message will be certainly worth it. Buy them fast, because you only have 2 days, December 14th through December 16th, to buy a nice Candy-Gram! Afterwards, they are all delivered to the person of choice.
How It Started The tradition Candy-Grams started when a company named the Western Union introduced them on Valentine's Day, 1959. They were simple candies with messages attached to them, they were also called “the sweetest message in the world.” With good reason too! Candy-Grams quickly spread across the world and now have many versions. These include singing Candy-Grams, where people sing the message to you and then give you a piece of candy, birthday Candy-Grams, Christmas Candy-Grams, which is the one we’re using this month, and most commonly, Valentine's Day Candy-Grams.
Band Concert By: Elyse
On December 7, 2015, the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade
bands participated in the winter concert. They showcased
pieces of music they had been working on throughout the
year. The day of the concert, all the bands practiced to-
gether during their elective for the first time. They held the
performance in the gym at 7:00 and it was a full house.
The bleachers were packed and they even had to add ex-
tra chairs so people could sit down. Each of the bands did
an exceptionally good job and the parents were very, very
proud of their children.
The True Meaning Of Christmas
By: Ashley D. and Amber L.
Most of you may think that Christmas is all about presents and gifts, but, it’s not! For many people, Christmas is a time of sorrow. They don't have the extra money to buy presents for their children, family or friends. Many are saddened at Christmas time when they think of their loved ones who will not be able to come home for various reasons. For other people, Christmas can be a holiday where everyone rejoices. It is also a sentimental holiday for many. Keep in mind that this holiday has different international meanings. Of course, for everyone, Christmas means something different. The universal meaning for this holiday is that special four-lettered word. L-O-V-E. Love. This Christmas, show love to your family and friends.

How to Use a Yo-yo By: Nate N.
The first thing you will learn when using a yo-yo is winding. Winding involves wrapping the string inside the yo-yo with your free hand. Next, throw the yoyo down (not on the floor) and it should come back up and you should be able to catch it. Practice this a few times and make sure to wind up the string to throw or release the yo-yo. When you think you are ready, you may want to try some easy tricks like Walk The Dog & Creeper. You may eventually be able to do harder tricks like Around the World or even the Sleeper! There are also different brands of yo-yos that you may have to choose from. The recommended brand model for beginners is the Yoyo Factory One. It can be changed from a classic responsive yo-yo to a modern unresponsive yo-yo. This is a very good option for those who are on a budget or those who want to have fun. There are also metal yo-yos that are for more advanced players and work very well for complicated tricks. If you are looking to get into the art of the yo-yo, buy one today!

Who is Francis Bradley By: Abby W.
Francis Bradley was involved in the American Revolutionary War. Captain James Thompson with Francis Bradley and 12 others who lived in Long Creek fought the Brit-ish one night. They were getting ready to fight, they were hiding get-ting ready for attack. This all took place on the McIntyre's Farm. This fight was won when they acci-dentally knocked over a bee-hive. Francis Bradley died when he was attacked by four men, and was killed by a bullet wound. Fran-cis Bradley Middle School was named after Francis Bradley be-cause of his bravery and honor.
