THE MEDICINE OF ENCOURAGEMENT

Encourage him… Deuteronomy 1:38 KJV

Recently during my stay at the Huntsville Hospital the bu)ons didn’t work on the

hospital bed and a kind teenager from Hazel Green came to take me for tests. I told him,

“I’m sure you can figure it out.” He looked, grinned,” and said, “Pastor, it’s not plugged

up all the way.” I thanked him for finding what others couldn’t and on the way to the

tests encouraged him to con4nue his educa4on for himself and because we need young

minds like his.

As I waited for test results over several days the doctors couldn’t give any

medica4on for discomfort because it could mask the pain and their search to make sure

about the cause. I asked one young nurse about the possibility of a hea4ng pad which

the hospital didn’t have, so again another young mind went to work. She heated water

in a coffee pot, put two cloths in a plas4c Ziploc bag, and poured the water in the bag

which was absorbed by the cloths, and had another cloth on the outside of the bag. It

worked perfectly and brought relief. Score another one for the young minds.

And then there was a tech by the name of Savannah from Sco)sboro who

a)ended our youth group when she was growing up and, now she is on staff at

Huntsville Hospital and a student at UAH. She was simply always kind and going the

extra mile to see that her pa4ent, the pastor, was comfortable. She would be the one to

roll me to the car when I got to come home and I told her I was proud of her and

encouraged her to stay the course and get all the educa4on she could for herself and for

those she would help. Score another one for the bright young faces of faith and hope

that I had the privilege of being with at Huntsville Hospital.

This weekend we will have worship at 8:45 and 11:00 a.m. THE CONFIRMANDS

WILL BE RECEIVED AT THE 11:00 a.m. SERVICE. Last Sunday’s service was powerful!

Please be in prayer for this

week’s services.

Baccalaureate will be at the

high school in the aCernoon

and Dr. Hardin Coleman will

be the speaker. The hard

working United Methodist

Men will have lunch for us

Sunday. It is always so good!

Steve

Seasons of Change Anything that remains the same is not

experiencing every opportunity God has for growth and

blessings. Back when I depended more on me than on

God, I would commonly say "I hate change". Well,

honestly, there are s4ll some 4mes I'm not the biggest

fan of new things and different means and ways but I

accept change as a pathway to what God has next.

Don't get me wrong, there are great rewards in

consistency which is simply showing up prayerfully and

prepared one day at a 4me. However, seeking and accep4ng

God's Will in this new day is the founda4on of faith. I don't

know what God is going to do today but I don't want to miss

a minute of it!

One of the hardest transi4ons I have found in Youth

Ministry is this season of gradua4on. It saddens me to see

these seniors transi4on to their next phase of educa4on,

careers, and life but at the same 4me I am overjoyed to

await the wonders they await and the gain for God's

Kingdom wherever they go. We have 19 graduates from

FUMC this year. This staggering number has come about by

consistency combined with acceptance of change so it also

requires the same trust in God to let them go. They go forth

into colleges, trades, and military service. They go forth to

be leaders, evangelists, and missionaries in con4nued

faithful pursuit of every God calling. They go forth prepared

for this change but also prepared to be the change a

Christ-led heart will bring to others. So, it is with humble

pride that we embrace this change as God's giC to the world

and further opportunity for us to grow in faith and fellowship. Likewise, it is with

overflowing gra4tude that we transi4on our 6th graders into the ranks of "Youth" -

praise God for these glorious changes of HIS design!

Thank you church for the support and prayers that has raised up this mighty

army of young believers to bring change to a broken world one heart and soul at a

4me. They know they will always have a spiritual home at FUMC in li)le ole

Sco)sboro AL. They know their church loves them and will con4nue to pray. They

know their Youth Directors will never let them go completely and gratefully await to

witness all God has planned.

A li)le heart-broken but undeniably blessed,

Hardin

A Mercy Minute

The biggest fight of our life is the fight to surrender our life to Jesus Christ. We must con4nue this

fight to surrender daily despite worldly messages to go it alone, take care of yourself, and depend on no

one. We surrender to win. This week at CR we will hear tes4mony from Luis Rodriguez. Luis is a gradua4ng

Senior and has had to fight too many 4mes in his young life to survive...his fight is over as he has now

surrendered to Christ and is finding more freedom each day with the protec4on and provision of God.

Blessings, Hardin

All of our members who are homebound, at assisted living facili9es, and nursing homes.

Mother’s Day—UMW Post Script

I hope all of you had a wonderful Mother’s Day. US President Woodrow Wilson declared May 8,

1914, the second Sunday in May as a special day to honor the na4on’s mothers, especially those who had

lost their sons to war. Did you know that Anna Marie Jarvis and fellow members of the Methodist Episcopal

Church led the charge to make Mother’s Day an official observance when Andrew’s Methodist Church in

GraCon, WV, held the state’s official Mother’s Day on May 10, 1908? The influence and power of women

united in purpose as UMW has been ac4ve for 150 years. We con4nue to invite women to join our UMW

unit. There is a place for you here. To join please contact Carol Reimer, Membership Chair,

[email protected] ,256 575-9951 or Mary K Carlton, President, [email protected], 256 566-9422.

Crayons for Children’s Hospital Crayons are being collected for Children’s Hospital of Alabama. This hospital is very dear to our church, as we have had several church members use this hospital at various 4mes, some4mes for quite extensive stays. In one week alone, the hospital goes through 4,000 crayons, and each year it goes

through a total of 208,000 crayons. That’s over 166 packs per week and over 8,666 packs per year! If you can help, there is a tub set up in the lobby by the office you can drop them in. If you prefer, money can be donated to purchase crayons instead. If you have ques4ons or would like to donate money for crayon purchase instead of actual crayons, please

contact Breanna (256-609-4595) or Tanya Welch (256-599-8626). Thank you for your help!!!
