WV & PA Congregations Offer
Training for Children Worship &
Wonder
Training in Children Worship & Wonder, an exciting
way of doing faith formation with children, will be
held at Fairhill Manor Christian Church in
Washington, Pennsylvania on September 15-16,
2017. First Christian Church in Wheeling, West
Virginia, and their Pastor Kenneth Hardway are
working together with Fairhill on the CW&W
Training event .
This training event, provided by Disciples Home
Missions (DHM) of the Christian Church (Disciples
of Christ), will be led by Trainer Trudy Betts.
Training in Children Worship & Wonder is based on
methods put forth in the book, Young Children and
Worship, by Sonja M. Stewart and Jerome W.
Berryman. In Children Worship & Wonder Centers,
children hear Bible stories and learn about God as
they experience the presence of God. The Bible
stories are told in a way that allows the listeners to
enter into the stories and respond out of their own
life experiences. In Children Worship & Wonder the
children also learn the meaning of church traditions
and have opportunities to participate in worship
practices.

As I look towards a new month and a new season in ministry, there are a variety of emotions running through my mind each day. Although emotions are mixed, the feeling of humility far
exceeds everything else I may be experiencing during this time. “Humility for God” Ordination to me has always been a sacred and symbolic moment in one’s vocational journey. It is the moment a faith community stands in solidarity with God, affirming the spiritual gifts and authority that will be utilized serving the Church universally. It is the moment of invoking the presence of the Holy Spirit to empower one committed to serving God, proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ, and actively working to strengthen the Church. I am humbled God called me and continues to reaffirm the anointing placed in me! “Humility for the Church” When I received the original call to be Interim Pastor of this wonderful congregation in November 2015, without hesitation First Christian Church made a commitment to partner in my spiritual journey. Neither of us were fully clear of what we would face on the roads ahead, but we believed, God placed us together and vowed to trust the process and plans of God. This congregation has helped to shape my faith in ways even I never anticipated when accepting your call. Each and every day God continues to reaffirm our divine connection. “I am humbled” by the Church’s continuous investment in my spiritual formation! Looking forward to September 17th, I am reminded, although this is a special day in my personal journey, it is also a special day in the history of First Christian Church. This will be the moment our covenantal relationship between Pastor and Congregation will be affirmed. Which means, this day will be incomplete without your presence! If you have not already made plans to attend this special service, please accept this as my personal request for your attendance for this historical moment. Let us celebrate together the marvelous things God’s doing in the life of our church! It’s our special moment, and I am humbled you’ve chosen to allow me to be your Pastor!

Wouldn’t it be nice to have
fresh flowers each week on the
Altar? Did you know you can
purchase the flowers in memory
or honor of a loved on? Did you know that not
only do the Altar flowers brighten up the Church
on a Sunday Morning, they also brighten
someone’s day when they receive them as a gift?
The person donating the flowers may choose to
bring them home, deliver them to a friend or ask
the Church to deliver them to a member who is
sick or unable to attend each week. $36.00 is a
small amount when you consider all the joy
flowers bring. Please contact the Church office to
reserve your dates for 2017 today!!
