In the ancient city-state of Agora, young Lily and Mark meet in the dark tower of Count Stelli, the famous astrologer. They develop a close friendship. Lily leaves the tower under the apprenticeship of a doctor. Mark becomes apprentice to Count Stelli, who soon disappears.

• Mark makes a lucky prediction that leads him to fame and riches. He begins to usurp power from others in the business community and gets rich undeservedly.

• Lily starts an almshouse that feed the debtors and the poor. She devotes her time and energy to charity.
