“Tapestry” | Tonight’s Theme Welcome to our 2012 Spring Orchestra
Concert, “Tapestry”. Before going into tonight’s program, I would
like to thank you for choosing to join us this evening. Our student
ensembles have worked diligently in preparation, and I know that
they are eager to share their work with their family, friends, and
supporters.
In the weeks leading up to tonight’s performance, many ideas passed
through my mind. However, in the end, there is one underlying
sentiment that I want to express – gratitude. There are any number
of people for whom I am grateful – our wonderful students, their
parents, the VAPA faculty here at Mira Mesa, our administration,
school support staff, our string coaches, the Mira Mesa
Instrumental Music Boosters (MMIMB), fellow music educators who
have so generously shared their time and talents with us, and the
Mira Mesa Community at large. In short, I see tonight’s concert as
a collaborative effort, made possible though the collective efforts
of everyone within our community.
On to our theme – “Tapestry”. A tapestry may be defined as “an
intricate combination of things or sequence of events”. Given the
above sentiment, it is my hope that tonight’s program serve as a
reflection on, and a musical interpretation of, the tapestry of
events, experiences, opportunities, and individuals who have helped
shape the 2011-12 academic year. Some pieces are represent
individuals within our community, while others represent
experiences that have helped shape our time together this year.
More will be revealed about specific compositions throughout the
course of the evening.
Again, thank you for joining us this evening, and thank you for
your continued support of music and music education here at Mira
Mesa High School.
Sincerely,
Program
