T he idea for this book came from my delight

-raeWng in a ountry very different from my own

At the time in my own colmtry there was much political

pvisoning ofattitudes towards foreigners and Foreignness

But travelling alone in remote Morocco

a wvman stranger myself I was met with much

friendliness and generosi ty from strangers

The idea for the book was right there

that outward appearances may be very different

but the inner person ofa stranger may not be a stranger at alL

Like each oth 1 we live to be loved by Family and fr iends

and be part ofa larger Family a comntLtnity

Inwardly we are so alike it could be ea -h other

we see when we look in a mirror

T he settings I chose for the families in the story are

the VaHey of Roses (famous for its rose perfwne)

in southern Morocco and my home in Sydney Australia

T he pictures started as drawings Using these drawings

as a guide coLlages were made The collag s were constructed

layer by Layer on a wooden baseboard using a combination

of natura l and artificia l materials uch as sand earth

day) paints vegetation paper Fabric wool tin and pLastic

The natural materials were preserved and fi-esh colouring

added The completed collages were then photographed

to be reproduced as you see here
