Message from the President, continued — Jessica Panfil

AACN President, Clareen Wiencek, was the inspiration behind writing this message. At the 2016 National Teaching Institute in New Orleans, I was able to hear her say, “Living that vision means that each of us must show up, speak up and not give up.” Her words at the conference gave me the motivation to show up, speak up, and not give up when it comes down to what matters most. Everything. With that said, I am humbled to serve as the 2016-2017 GMAC President. My vision for this year is full of laughter, education, and membership. It is time to let GMAC shine through the chapter members that matter. It is time to “Reach out to team members and thank them for being there, for giving to humanity when needed most.” Clareen Wiencek, AACN President. So, thank you. Thank you for the opportunity to be your President. Thank you for your contribution to nursing. Thank you for making this year matter.

Remembering a Great Leader and Friend…

As we move forward we take a look back and remember our dear friend who

has blazed the path for so many of us. A true leader in the nursing

profession, Mary Kay Feeney was an integral part of the GMAC family and

losing her has left a hole in our hearts. Mary Kay was a constant encourager

of certification and professional advancement and because of your generous

donations in her honor GMAC will be providing several scholarships for

nurses attending certification reviews this year.

Treasurer’s Report- Lori Grade

Treasurer’s Report

GMAC starts the fiscal year out strong, ready to support all the activities that make our chapter great. The

chapter’s income comes primarily from membership dues and revenue from educational offerings like the

PCCN/CCRN review course. That money is then used to cover catering costs for our educational sessions,

speaker fees and other related costs for review courses. We also offer scholarship money for NTI.

Our goal this year, as always, is to use this money wisely, and to provide quality programming for our

members. We want our education sessions to be meaningful and bring value to your practice. If you have

topics that you’d like to see covered at one of our sessions, or have a great speaker you’d like to

recommend, please share that with a board member. We want to make every meeting a worthwhile

experience!

CCRN/PCCN Review, Continued

Speaker:

Kay Hoppe MSN, RN, CNS, CCRN PCCN She has been a speaker for over 25 years. Her clinical background of over 30 years includes experience in ICU, CCU, Burn, Trauma and Cardiothoracic Surgery. She graduated with her Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and a Master’s Degree from the University of Wisconsin- Madison. She currently serves as a Critical Care Clinical Nurse Specialist for Froedtert Health-Community Hospital Division. She is well known throughout Wisconsin for her ability to take complex topics and make them fun and easy to understand.

Course Description This two-day program provides an extensive review of acute care nursing practice. This includes the care of patients in critical care, intermediate care, direct observation, step-down, telemetry, and transitional care units. The course provides a review of disease processes commonly encountered in the acute care setting along with pertinent pathophysiology, assessment, diagnostic testing and current treatment measures. The blueprint for the CCRN and the PCCN exams serve as the foundation for this course with primary emphasis placed on topics common to each of the exams. This course can be used as a CCRN and PCCN examination preparatory course as well as a means to obtain CERPs for recertification, or as a systemic review to those managing the care of acutely ill patients.

Membership- Carrie Brandt

Welcome to the beginning of another great year with GMAC. My name is Carrie Brandt and I am your

Member-at-Large: Membership Chair. This year, we are going to focus on “It Matters” and just what that

means to each of us in our professional lives, in our personal lives, and here at GMAC.

Without membership, there is no GMAC. One area that membership would like to focus on this year is paying

our knowledge, our commitment to nursing, and our appreciation for the numerous AACN and GMAC

benefits forward. Just how can you do that? It’s simple really. GMAC leadership is starting the year off by

sponsoring new members of GMAC. We are asking you to consider doing the same. First, invite a coworker,

a student, or a nurse you think may benefit from AACN-GMAC. Bring the nurse you would like to sponsor to

the September meeting or November meeting if they can’t make the first meeting. They must be an existing

national AACN member or be willing to become one before they can be a local chapter member. Then you

sponsor their GMAC chapter dues. We hope that you understand the value of paying it forward; mentoring

and sponsoring a new chapter member, all while helping GMAC grow exponentially.

GMAC membership forms have gotten an upgrade! GMAC leadership feels strongly this year about going into

the community and recruiting new members. The intention of our new membership form is to promote

AACN-GMAC at a variety of facilities including universities, hospitals and long-term facilities. The first page of

our membership form is a form that we can use as our new “calling card” with both information and access to

GMAC on Facebook, Twitter, the Web and via mail. If you are interested in being a representative of GMAC in

the community and assisting our leadership in promoting and recruiting for GMAC, please let anyone on the

board know. Thank you for considering this important aspect of membership!

A few friendly reminders about membership:

Membership dues have increased to $35/year Sept. 1-Aug. 31

Student fees increased to $15/year

Non-member fees remain $20/meeting

**Change this year** Septembers meeting will be a paid meeting and dues will be required to attend

Bulk membership forms included in monitor will be accepted at the September and November

meetings only. Must have 5 in order to send to AACN. Savings is $9. Please print and fill out prior to

coming to meeting to save time. MUST HAVE A SEPERATE CHECK FROM GMAC DUES.

The GMAC membership form has gotten an upgrade! Please feel free to pass the flyers out at your

facilities. Also, please print and fill out your forms prior to the September meeting to ensure that

membership processing goes quickly prior to our dinner and educational session. Remember that

PayPal and mail are still an option as well. If you mail in advance and we have receipt before that

night, membership cards will be available to you that night. PayPal will be available that night and you

do not need to fill out the credit card information line (that is in the event that PayPal/card swipe is

not working). If paying by check, PLEASE HAVE A SEPERATE CHECK FROM AACN BULK MEMBERSHIP

FEES. If you are sponsoring someone’s chapter dues, ensure that you have filled this out on your

membership form and included their $35 fee on your check/PayPal total.

If using PayPal, please have ALL required information found on the membership forms included in the

PayPal payment section so that you can be entered into the national database. This is what GMAC

leadership uses for communication. Also, there is a convenience fee added to your membership fees

for processing when using PayPal.

I am excited to see many returning faces and meet some new faces as well. If anyone has any questions,

please do not hesitate to ask.
