THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER PASTOR’S ARTICLE
Pastor Francis L. Schroeder Holy Cross Lutheran—Nederland
“WATER IN THE WILDERNESS”
In the 1960’s the Kingston Trio released a song called “Desert Pete.” The ballad tells of a thirsty cowboy who is crossing the desert and finds a hand pump. Next to it, Desert Pete has left a note urging the reader not to drink the water in the jar left there but to use its contents to prime the pump. The cowboy resists the urge to drink the water and uses the water as the note instructs. In reward for his obedience, he receives an abundance of cold satisfying water. Had he not acted in faith, he would have only a jar of unsatisfying, warm water to drink. In the Exodus wilderness, when their thirst became overwhelming, Moses sought the Lord. He was told to strike the rock at Horeb with his staff. Moses believed and obeyed, and the water gushed from the stone. Sometimes life can seem like an arid desert. But God can quench our spiritual thirst in the most unlikely circumstances. When by faith we believe the promises of God’s Word, we can experience rivers of living water and grace for our daily needs.
Our Daily Bread—2017
Blessed September to you my friends! Pastor Francis L. Schroeder

We are looking for people to help with donuts for Sunday school this all. On Sunday morning donut helpers would need to pick up the donuts at Happy Donuts on Nederland Ave. & bring them to church. Then, you would set up donuts, tea, etc. for
adults & take some donuts over to the education building for the children. Pastor usually makes the coffee unless he is unavailable. We will set up a schedule once we have volunteers. Please contact: Pam and Steve Vincent if you are interested in helping or have any questions by Email: [email protected] or phone: #(409) 727-4488. Thanks!

The Spanish Mission funding has drastically dropped since #34 Mission Council has taken a hiatus from our
meetings. There is about one month of funding left for Pastor Casillas. Trinity Lutheran in Port Arthur held a fund-
raiser approximately two weeks ago and raised about $900.00. An anonymous donor has added $1000.00 to that amount. Please inform your congregation about the critical need for dollars to support this mission that is reaching the Spanish speaking community in Mid and South County. Then, ask the Lord to guide them in their decision regarding support of
this project Circuit wide. Any donations can be sent to Trinity Lutheran Church @ 2400 5th St., Port Arthur, Texas
77640 & earmark for “Spanish Mission.” Any questions, call Linda Turner, Trinity Lutheran Secretary @ #(409) 983-1130.Thanks for your dedication to this project.
