THE MONTH OF JUNE/JULY PASTOR’S ARTICLE
Pastor Francis L. Schroeder Holy Cross Lutheran—Nederland
“SIR, YOU HAVE SOME DIRT ON YOUR HEAD”
First time visitors and tourists to Alaska often venture to see Mount McKinley. At a height of 20,337 feet the mountain is quite an impressive sight. A story is told of a first time tourist checking into a lodge and glancing out a window and saying, “Wow, what a view!” A man stand- ing nearby said, “Well, that ain’t it!” It turns out that
most tourists never really see all of Mount McKinley. The mountain is so tall that for over 200 days of the year the peak is covered with clouds. It is only on those crystal clear days that one can see the view to the summit.
We are often satisfied with our limited vision of life. We can see only so far and not anymore. The Lord sees our lives with panoramic vision. He sees the people He wants us to help, the things He desires for us to accomplish, and the way He desires us to grow and develop.
This summer as you travel and see new and wonderful sights and venues, remember too to see yourself in a very different light. See yourself as a servant of the Lord and to open your eyes to ways you never even imagined to serve Him and His church.
Until we see each other, may the Lord bless and keep you!
Pastor Francis L. Schroeder

The changing pace & speed of technology & information often amazes me.
To give you an example, back in 1996, our Church Council & Voters Assembly approved for us to advertise in both the Southwestern
Bell Yellow Pages & the Golden Triangle Yellow Pages, plus have an advertisement in the
religious section of the Port Arthur News.
That was almost 20 years ago. Times have indeed changed. 20 years ago people thumbed their way through the Yellow Pages & subscribed to the local newspaper. That is how we communicated to the world as to who
& what we are at Holy Cross!
Now midway through 2015 we no longer have subscriptions to the Yellow Pages & the local paper is regulated to six days a week with only
one section with twelve pages. The way we communicate has changed.
Holy Cross has a website at www.holycrosstexas.org since 2006 & now we are adding another way to communicate with the introduction
of a Holy Cross APP. Now APP is short for APPLICATION, which is that wonderful icon on smartphones and tablets. You simply press
the APP & information from that source appears.
Pastor Schroeder is working with a company to develop an APP this summer. It is the hope & plan to have the APP available for free.
The target for start up on the APP is on or before September 30th.
WE WILL HAVE AN “APP” FOR THAT!

Your Trash IS Cash ……for aiding in the cost of shipping all those health kits to areas of need. 2012, we report-ed $14,000 was collected from all those stamps. Today, 2015,
I am telling you that we are now over $24,000. That is $10,000 just for stamps that would have been cash. I’m
also excited that later this year we’ll have the “Stamp Lady” herself to tell you everything
and answer all those questions, on how “trash can be cash”. So, be on the look out for that date. And, keep them com-
ing—every stamp counts. If you just have “1” we’ll take it. Just like those mites, they add
up to do wonderful things. Grateful to receive your stamps, your Holy Cross
LWML, Sharon Teinert & Judy Alvarez.

You will never be the same after hearing our speaker’s message.

BIBLE SMUGGLING EXPERIENCE
Saturday, September 12
All ages are encouraged to join us for a fun, exhilarating and challenging
Bible Smuggling Experience you will NOT want to miss!
What is the Bible Smuggling Experience? It’s an EXPERIENCE that will simulate what it is like for the real people who risk their lives every day to be Christians
(ie: smuggle Bibles) into countries where being a Christian is illegal.
Students from Kindergarten through 12th Grade will form teams. Adult “tour guides” will take them through 10-12 different countries (which will be set-up throughout our church
grounds - both indoors and outdoors) while trying to "smuggle" Bibles. Border Patrol will be on the prowl too. The team with the most Bibles at the end of the game, wins!
Some countries are open countries where being a Christian is a freedom. But others are considered "closed" countries that have laws prohibiting even possession of a Bible or even
the admittance of being a Christian. Some countries may search and interrogate while others may encourage the sharing of the Gospel.
Our hope is to also have a Missionary here to speak on the
Sunday immediately after the Saturday event (during Worship).
HELP NEEDED While this event will not take place until the Fall of 2015, our initial planning meetings to prepare
for this experience will take place in June/July (TBA). Because of the delicacy of this topic we would like for families and individuals to have the summer to research their country (closed coun-
tries will receive a book with details and history) and make preparations so this experience can be a life-changing experience for all.
We are looking for families and individuals who would sponsor certain countries.
More details will be coming soon, but if you are interested in sponsoring a certain country, please contact DCE Kristy Witek.
Countries Germany (free), Philippines, China, Colombia, Iran, Egypt, India,
Italy (free), Vietnam, England (free), North Korea, Sudan
We will also be in need of Adult Tour Guides, Registration Team, Border Guards, “behind the scenes” crew and more.
Contact DCE Kristy at [email protected] for more info!
