August 22 nd is closing in fast and I don’t know anyone who isn’t excited about the upcoming Golf Cart Rodeo. Mitchell Golf Cart & Equipment Co. has a great weekend in store for all of us. Friday evening is registration and dinner, then to start our events on Saturday morning we will judge who’s whip is worthy of a first place Show-n-Shine trophy. To follow will be drag racing, barrel runs, an O- course, and figure 8 race, so if you aren’t competing, you’ll want to be here early so you can get a good seat for the show. For those of you who are interested in signing up for one or more of the events, here is what you need to do: Go up to the parts store and sign the list so we can get an idea of how many folks are going to show up from the campground. This will help us figure the number of t-shirts, food and door prizes that we will need. T- shirts will be on sale the day of the event, if you are not participating in the rodeo and you would like to purchase a t-shirt please put your order in at the parts store. Mitchell Golf Carts will have plenty of parts and accessories for you to trick out your cart, as well as a nice selection of new and used golf carts for you to drool over. Just be careful, in some countries, drooling on the merchandise is considered a contract to buy. I must say, the Poor Farmer’s Activity Committee has put together, what I think, is a spectacular event. Thank you to Mitchell Golf Carts for sponsoring the event, to Rick Levally for all of the time invested into this event and to all who will be there supporting the racers and participating. In the future, I think that The Annual Golf Cart Rodeo at Poor Farmer’s RV will one day be the reason for people to buy and beef up their golf cart. This was the fourth year for the Buckeye Woodcarver’s Round-up and I must say it gets bigger every year. Woodcarvers from all over America bring their talents to Poor Farmer’s in order to instruct, learn, and spend time with friends. The Woodcarvers will be back on July 22-26, 2015. All are welcome to take part in this incredible exhibition of carving skills, whether you want to learn or just want to see the beauty that can be created from a simple block of wood. Go to: www.buckeyewoodcarversroundup.webs.com to learn more.

Thanks Jim and Barb Foster!

Come see us at the

fairs! August 1st - 8th is the Champaign County Fair in Urbana, Ohio. Denise will be out there to show you some beautiful coaches, tell you all about the campground, or point you towards the nearest restroom. She will be trying diligently to sell more campers than I do at the Miami County Fair, which is August 8th – 14th in Troy, Ohio. Denise thinks she is this super sales woman just because she treats customers with respect and gives them great deals on campers. What she doesn’t realize is that it takes much more than great customer service to sell RVs. Sometimes you have to use the old Jedi Mind Trick to get the deal closed. So when I ask you if you’re ready to buy today, the proper response should be a resounding YES! Come see us at the Fairs!

Doug and Sue Pratt have earned this month’s Site of the Month for August 2014. The Pratts are in a prestigious group of Poor Farmer’s campers now… those who have earned Site of the Month twice. Doug and Sue have worked very hard to get their campsite to prime condition. Instead of a picture of the site, I should have posted one of Doug leveling his pavers. When I drove by, I was going to ask him if he installed a mini pool because of how drenched his clothes were, but I didn’t want to give him any ideas. For the record, hot tubs and pools are not allowed at anyone’s campsite. To take attention away from the nicely leveled pavers are the beautiful flowers which adorn Sue’s garden. This picture does not do this site justice. Head over to Hobo Junction and check out this beautiful site and congratulate Doug and Sue on their second Site of the Month award. Thank You Doug and Sue!

Coachmen State Rally August 15-17, 2014

August 15th marks the Coachmen State Rally at Poor Farmer’s RV. Coachmen clubs from all over Ohio will be here to celebrate the freedom that comes with owning a Coachmen RV. All Coachmen owners are encouraged to sign up at in the parts store. Camping clubs have been responsible for many lifelong friendships. They are also a great way for Coachmen owners to discuss RVs, campsites, or which RV toilet paper feels the best on your tushy. Our friend Becky Brittingham, with Poor Farmer’s own “Pound Puppies” Coachmen Camping Club, is an experienced rally organizer and has a great weekend in store for us. Thank you to all who come out to share the fun with us.

Grandparents Weekend Causes Sand in Pants and

Water in Boots

This year’s grandparent’s weekend delivered a couple curveballs for the kids. Normally we would have our annual fishing derby after arts and crafts, but we decided to change it up a bit, and I think everyone had a great time with the alterations. Tony and Cherrie Dippolito hosted arts & crafts where the kids decorated flashlights to be used later in the evening for the Moonlight Mania Scavenger Hunt. After arts & crafts we had a special guest; Jennifer the Balloon Lady came and made animals out of balloons for the kids. I told Andrea that Jennifer was a much better choice than my guy, Bruno, who makes balloons out of animals. If you look at the pics on page

two, you will see the John Deere tractor that Jennifer made for the campground, what talent! After lunch, we buried some money in the sand pile at the playground. The kids were diving for coins and the grandparents were placing bets on what their pockets would fill up with first, coins or sand. Once the kids have found all they could in the sand, it was time to wash them off; and what better way to do so than with a fire truck. Thank you to the Fletcher Fire Department, Tony & Cherrie, Rick & Deb Levally, Jennifer the Balloon lady, and of course my beautiful wife Andrea for making this day something the kids will remember forever.

Guess the Year… Go Bucks!!

Shriners Breakfast will Host “Chris Cakes”!

August 30, 2014

If you remember the huge “Super Rally” we had at the beginning of last year, you will absolutely remember “Chris Cakes” on Saturday morning flipping flap jacks all over the big shelter. Well, we have invited Chris Cakes back for another show. Every year we have a breakfast to raise money for a special group of people who dedicate their time to helping children who have been crippled, burned, or born with a birth defect… the Shriners. This is the first time we have farmed this job out to somebody else. Normally it is Andrea, Patty, Amy, Steve, and me in the kitchen cooking eggs, sausage, and toast. It will be nice to sit and watch the breakfast being cooked by some real professionals, and to see some nice folks who are just looking for a bite to eat take a hot cake to the face. Oh calm down people, I don’t want anyone to get hurt… they’re just pancakes. The only thing pancakes can hurt is your waistline; unless they are burnt, then I guess they could cause some damage; especially if the edges are slicing at you like a saw blade. I didn’t mean to scare you, but what’s breakfast without a little hint of danger. See you there. Please sign up for this event in the parts store so we can tell Chris Cakes how much pancake batter to bring. Cost is $6/person for early registration

and $7/person the day of the event. (Kids 4 and under are free)
