As a pastor, I will at times hear people say things like, “What this church really needs...” Or, “I’ll tell you what’s wrong with this church.” At times I have even wondered whether people get a strange pleasure from saying this and then pointing out all the ways that they think a church is falling short. Our church is no different than others. Our church has many things that it is doing right. Our church has a wonderful staff that serves sacrificially, musically gifted people who volunteer their time, teachers who prepare lessons and give of themselves through their teaching gifts, others who will come early on Sunday to prepare gifts of hospitality and welcome, folks who visit the sick, others who help by giving to those in need, and volunteers that keep up the grounds. It is a blessing to see the faithfulness of people who attend and serve faithfully through both the blessings and the challenges of our church’s seasons of life. Many people tithe and give offerings from their hard work and finances, support missionaries around the world, and then give sacrificially with local ministries, as well. Our church is blessed with youth and children’s ministries, men’s and women’s ministries and outreach ministries. The apostle Paul reminded us, “In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18 KJV) and he also says we are to, “edify” or “build up” others and the church as a whole. (Found 7 times in 1 Corinthians 14!) In other words, finding God’s blessings in His church and His people is important! Rather than being fault-finding and pointing out all the things wrong with our churches, I believe we could make a better choice. We could choose to point out all the things that are right, to notice people that are doing things well, and giving thanks for what is good. Let’s be thankful for these things. Charlotte County is blessed to have many wonderful churches. We should be thankful God has blessed us with the one that is blessing us! Let’s speak well of our own church and others. Let’s refuse to speak evil of other people’s congregations. Let’s seek to be a source of encouragement for the people of God and a blessing to the God of our people! “Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.” (Ephesians 4:29) Over the next six weeks we are going to be sharing in the Sunday messages: “What’s Right With the Church.” I hope we will see each other in worship! Girls Everywhere Meeting the Savior. G.E.M.S. is a Christian girls club our church began in 2008. The PCUMC G.E.M.S. Club #3220 meets here at the church on Thursday evenings from 6:00—7:30pm in Asbury Hall. Our club year runs from February thru October. We now have girls in 1st—8th Grades. Our club has yet another terrific year including biblical life lessons, badge ceremonies, scrip-ture, a birthday celebration, a field trip to the Imaginarium in Fort Myers, prayer, fellowship and lots of fun. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for supporting this wonderful addition to our Children’s Ministry. It has truly been a blessing to both the girls and the counselors that participate in this club. September 26th is G.E.M.S. Sunday and we are once again looking forward to being part of the worship services and seeing all of you. Our Club Aim: Micah 6:8 “And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with our God.” Our Mission: To help bring girls into a living, dynamic relationship with our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Children’s Weekday Ministry Children’s Ministry News

The opening of “The Port” went GREAT! I am so excited to work side by side with Paul to launch a new and improved children and youth area. We believe that if we teach kids at an early age to be anchored in Christ, to KNOW Christ, GROW to love Christ and GO to serve Christ, then they will have the foundation to be disciples for Christ just as Jesus asks them to be. I would like to send a special thanks to Dave Cox, Sr. for building the Dock, Jim Hepler and Phil Western for building the deck for the ship’s wheel, Wade Warden, Mike Hald, Royce Wallace, Nancy Bosserdet, Wanda Roberts, Patty Royer, Dustin James, Bill Bishop, the Meth-o-Mates, Splendid Effects and Katherine Arthington. Thank you to the United Methodist Men… with their donation we will continue “Pizza at the Port” on Wednesday nights. Come and join us for a time of fellowship and get to know some new faces and some old faces, like mine. In His Love, Barbara Hald Director of Children’s Ministry

Pizza, Veggie Tray & Drink ———————————— Adults $2, Children $1 Donation Dinner is followed by a children’s activity at 6pm and Pastor Brian’s Bible Study at 6:15pm

Ericka Brown, Director

I believe God has big plans for the Children’s Weekday Ministry this school year! As we have just begun the school year, we are excited to meet so many new families! Please continue to pray for the children and staff of this wonderful ministry.

A day in the life of a

preschool student at

your church:

Everyday I am greeted at my

car and helped out of my

car seat. I know which class-

room is mine because of its

color… My teacher greets me

and I hang up my backpack in

the hall. I have to sign in and get my job for the day…

and I wait for my friends… I get to play with play

dough or matching cards or sometimes I try to write

my name. Once all my friends come in, we start our

day with prayer and the pledge. We have a meteorolo-

gist tell us what the weather will be and we count all

the days of the week. I really like it when we sing a

silly song in the morning. Next, we get to play in cen-

ters where I like to pretend to be a chef. Sometimes I

build with blocks, or create a picture in the art cen-

ter. All my fiends and I go to the restroom and get

ready for our healthy snack. My favorite is apples and

cheese sticks. After snack we go outside to the play-

ground. I love to climb on the new mountain!

When we come inside we listen to a story and do an

art activity. Some days we get to go to chapel. I love

singing the wiggle and praise song! Some days we get

to go to Clap, Tap and Jingle. But everyday I love to

come to school!

When it’s time to go we all line up in the hall and we

sing the “Smelly” song—it’s another silly song that

reminds me how to sit with my hands to myself. When

I hear my name on the walkie talkie I “pop” up and

meet my mom out at the car.

Calendars For Sale! The Children’s Ministry is selling these beautiful scripture 2011 wall calendars for $7. See Barbara Hald to purchase one for yourself, and one to share with a friend!
