I get asked often where the cover photos come from for our catalog every year. The answer is simple. They come from pictures taken during our every day life. My dear college friend, Dee Weeda, who
has run her Angus cows here on Moser Ranch since 2010 and has graciously allowed us to manage them
for her, snapped this year’s cover photo while we were out checking cattle together this summer. This is the 4th year for Dee’s bulls to be in our sale. She is a savvy cattlewoman and we enjoy working with her.
This catalog is my compilation of our year’s work and day-to-day life, and our family is proud to share
it with you.
Special thanks to LivestockDirect.net foradvising on and the printing of
this representation of who we are.-Lisa Moser
Soldiers PrayerO God, we know you care about each of your
children, around the globe. We praise your loving kindness, your merciful grace. This day we lift to
you our troops. So far from home and family, they do their best to serve with faithfulness and honor. Hold them tightly, Holy One. Give them courage. As they endure harsh conditions, loneliness and great danger, let them know your nearness. Help them feel your love, and comfort the families left behind. Also, we pray for the end of war. We pray for your strength, your wisdom and your recon-
ciliation. That the serving men and women of every nation might be at home, wrapped in their families, we seek your peace, here on earth, as in heaven. Creator, bless us all as we pray in your
holy name. Amen.
To all military personnel in our circle of cattle friends: We can never begin to thank you enough for what you have done and continue to do for our country. God bless each and every one of you.

Our Friends, the Owen FamilyWe have been blessed to get to know Aaron and Jennie Owen and their sons as a result of the six years that Aaron and Harry spent together on the Board of Trustees of the American Simmental Association. We are happy to announce that the Owen family has been able to expand their operation over the past
couple of years, and are now hosting their own bull sale with three other local breeders in the Springfield, MO, area. All the best to you, dear friends!
Welcome to our Family's 24th Bull Sale! Thank you for taking time to evaluate our 2015 sale offering. Our focus, as it has always been, is to improve your bottom line with genetics that will efficiently produce a product that is of high quality and in demand to meet what our industry-and most importantly what the consumer-wants. This is our way of life, we have to do it right to survive. As in the past, our catalog is in sale order. Doing this every year is a challenge! We wait until ultrasound and gain information are gathered and studied before we sort the bulls for sale order. Blending numbers, phenotype, ET sets of brothers and different breeds of cattle provides a long afternoon's challenge to lay out the catalog, but it happened on October 10th. It took Rex and Harry three and a half hours to sift through bulls, even after the morning "preliminary sort," and again, they discussed how deep the quality runs in our offering this year. There are 20 Angus bulls, the most we have ever offered, and they are an impressive set. They will hold their own against any Angus bulls that will be sold in the next year. Our entire offering includes calving ease, performance, carcass and maternal bulls, as well as many "combination bulls" that excel in of all those traits. All but one sale bull are positive for marbling EPD, and that lone bull is at zero. Ultimately, it all comes down to pounds, but quality has and will again secure premiums in the future. With Moser genetics you can be ready to collect the rewards for pounds and quality. Over the years, folks who attend our sale are impressed with the easy, straightforward approach we use to market our bulls. Our auctioneer has been with us for 24 years. He owns Holton Livestock Exchange, a local sale barn, and he can call most of our customers by name as they buy bulls. Our ringmen are attentive to your bidding, and are professionally cognizant of our customers' desire to know where they stand in the bidding process. New in our catalog this year is the registration number for every bull. Note: Most of the Simmental and SimAngus bull numbers are in parenthesis, meaning they are not actually registered yet, but when we do register them after the sale, that number will be their registration number. Having this information in the catalog enables you to look up any Simmental or Percentage bull in the ASA database, or Angus in the AAA database, if you would like a more extensive look at their pedigree and performance prior to sale day. Give us a call or shoot us a text or an email and make arrangements to come and see the bulls here on the ranch prior to sale day. Or, if you'd rather, a bull video will be online at www.moserranch.com or the LivestockDirect.net website. This is the second best year ever for those of us in the beef industry. Please take some time to study the top of page 27 to see what calf prices have done in the past. Even with these ex-ceptional prices, there is still an opportunity to be at the top of today's market with cattle of proven genetics and proven track records. Join us to become a part of our total industry focus to raise the best possible beef. Being seedstock and commercial producers puts us in a unique position when compared to many purebred breeders. Our intention on the Moser Ranch is to raise cattle that will work for you, not the other way around. Along that line, we de-velop our bulls much differently than most breeders. Please read about our bull management on pages 6 & 8.What you will find in our bull pens are calves that are ready to go to work and stay in your herd for many useful years. Thank you for considering Moser Ranch genetics.See you on November 14th-The Moser and Michaelis Families

SEMEN TESTING All bulls were semen tested on October 27, 2015 in the event that you want to put them out with cows immediately. For bulls not working until Spring 2015, a re-check is recommended at that time.
RETAINED SEMEN INTEREST The Moser Ranch is retaining a 1/3 semen interest in all polled bulls in the offering. You will own full possession and salvage value of the animal. In the event that semen sales become a reality on your purchase, the Moser Ranch is basically retaining the right to 1/3 of the semen sales revenue. If you sell the bull to another cattleman, the 1/3 semen interest is still retained by the Moser Ranch. We reserve the right to collect bulls of interest to us at buyer's convenience and seller's expense.
Buyer InformationBULL MANAGEMENT Fall bulls were weaned here on the ranch on April 3, 2015. On April 26 they were moved to fescue until July 6, when they were moved to native. Spring bulls were weaned in large lots in October 20, 2014, then wintered on a growing ration. They spent the spring on brome and fescue and were moved to native grass on July 15. On August 16th, all bulls were weighed in for the start of the gain test. Fall bulls are in an 80 acre native pasture, and spring bulls in a 30 acre native pasture. Target gain was 3.2#/day. Results are listed in the catalog. The ration consists of corn silage, ground grass hay, wet distillers, cracked corn and a base mineral & vitamin premix. WE FEEL VERY STRONGLY THAT "RANGE DEVELOPING" OUR BULLS AND NOT PUSHING THEM HARD ON TEST allows them to express their genet-ics on a more realistic level, stay more structurally sound, and they are presented to you at sale time in "breeding appropriate" condition scores. Please remember that these bulls are still growing, and will continue to do so for at least the next year to year and a half. Until breeding season, they need to stay on a similar plain of nutrition, 5-7# of grain in addition to silage or hay.
CATALOG EPD INFORMATION Fall 2015 breed average EPDs for active Simmental, SimAngus and Angus sires can be found on page 7. You can directly compare the Moser Bulls of each breed to the current active sires for each respective breed on page 7.
ULTRASOUND Craig Hays from Critical Insights collected ultrasound images on spring bulls on April 15, 2015. He also collected ultrasound images on our fall bulls on October 1, 2015. We have been providing ultrasound information in one form or another to our customers since 1996. The following thoughts about ultrasound are important to remember: 1. The American Simmental Association utilizes the ultrasound information in the calculation of the carcass EPDs that they generate. So, the data itself is already figured into the carcass EPDs. We feel that using the carcass EPDs is a more accurate way to make your selection than by using the adjusted raw ultrasound data. To help with this transition, we have developed a "Plus System" and also supplied you with the in-herd ratio for each measured trait. The system reads as such in the catalog: +++ means a bull scanned in the upper 1/3* for that trait (REA or MRB)
++ means a bull scanned in the middle 1/3* for that trait (REA or MRB) + means a bull scanned in the lower 1/3* for that trait (REA or MRB) (*the upper, middle or lower 1/3 of each bull's contemporary group)If you want the raw data on a particular bull, let us know and we can supply it. 2. Fat thickness amounts vary greatly depending on feeding. Our bulls are set up to gain 3.25#/day on test. THEY ARE NOT FAT.
RULE OF THUMB CONCERNING BULL USE Put a yearling bull with no more than 20-25 cows, and pull him away from the cowherd after a 45 to 80 day breeding season. The older spring born bulls can handle up to 30-35 cows, but please pull them away from the breeding herd after a 45-80 season as well. Young bulls need time to regain condition lost during breeding, and to help them continue to grow and develop properly and rebuild fertility. Fall worming and a complete vaccination schedule is recommended.
5% REPEAT BUYER DISCOUNTIn an effort to reward loyal bull customers, we are pleased to continue our "Repeat Buyer Discount" policy this year.
This is how it works: If you purchased a bull (or bulls) in our November 8, 2014 sale, you will receive 5% off your total bull purchase in this November 14, 2015 sale. This is a continuous credit policy, which is in effect each year. This 5% discount is
determined after all credits have been subtracted from the gross purchase price. FOR THOSE CUSTOMERS WHO USE EXCLUSIVELY MOSER GENETICS FOR THEIR BREEDING STOCK BUT MAY NOT PURCHASE BULLS EVERY YEAR, you can
plan on being able to use this repeat discount as well. PLEASE LET THE GIRLS KNOW AT SETTLEMENT IF YOU PURCHASEAND USE MOSER GENETICS EXCLUSIVELY IN YOUR HERD. This is our way of saying "Thank You" to all our bull buyers.-our thanks to Gardiner Angus Ranch, Ashland, KS, for allowing us to use their basic idea of the 5% repeat customer discount and adapt it to our program. (2006)
EMBRYO TRANSFER Cross Country Genetics North, Westmoreland, KS, has been our ET company since we started doing embryo transfer in 1991. Drs. Kirk Gray and Clay Breiner and their staff have done a great job for us the past 24 years, and we appreciate their efforts.

Moser Ranch Herd Bulls
All-Purpose Index (API) Evaluates sires for use on the entire cow herd with a portion of the daughters kept back as replacements to maintain herd size and the remaining calf crop put on feed and sold grade & yield. Terminal Index (TI) Evaluates sire for use on mature Angus cows with all offspring put on feed and sold grade & yield. To use API or TI: First, determine which index to use; if you're keeping replacements use API, if not, use TI. Then, just as with EPDs, zero in on the unit difference between bulls.
Harry & Lisa's thoughts on Bull Selection...You can make your bull selection truly your own. Decide what is important in your program. Then explore the appropriate EPDs or Indexes. Next, visually evaluate those animals that fall into your accepted range of those numbers. Don't oversimplify, but don't select your herdsires using only the numbers either. "Mathematizing" is happening in all breeds; associations are providing all kinds of new figures-indexes, some dollar figures, etc. These are formulated by some estimations and assumptions. When it gets right down to the nuts and bolts of bull selection,
use the proven science and keep the other number "tools" in perspective, look at the bulls, consider the seedstock source-their use of proven genetics, their services and their approach to raising real-world cattle in a real-world environment, and then try to buy your herdsires at a reasonable price.
You will not be disappointed in Moser Ranch's cattle, our guarantee, or our service.
Dollar Indexes ($ INDEXES) (DOLLAR INDEXES) $ Indexes blend EPDs and economics to estimate an animal's overall impact on your bottom line and are expressed in dollars/cow exposed. They are a very simplified method to use in bull selection.

COMPREHENSIVE INSURANCE (Since 2007) With the value of cattle being what it is these days, your herd sire purchase represents an investment in quality which deserves protection. Please read on page 6 about an opportunity you will have at our sale to purchase a Comprehensive Insurance Policy on your investment at very reasonable rates.
BULL MANAGEMENT (Since 1993) Just a few additional notes concerning our bull development (found at the top of page 6). Our unique approach to range growing our bulls allows them to stay sound. They ARE NOT in a feedlot setting during the gain test, and they ARE NOT fed a hot ration, but instead, a growing ration. Genetics can be expressed favorably under these conditions. Our bulls are hard and structurally sound. They won't boast 1400# yearling weights, but they will go out and breed cows, keep their condi-tion, and transmit their proven genetics to their offspring. Many customers have commented on how our bulls hold together during breeding season.

Mom Moser: Incredible Baker, Mom,Mother-in-Law, Grandma, Great-Grandma
Harry’s mom, Elaine Moser, is 84 years young, and still makes bread on a regular basis. When Harry and his 5 siblings were growing up, she made 8 loaves of bread every 5 days. There is no telling how many 1000’s of loaves of bread this woman has made in the last 60 years since she married LaVerne, who convinced her to start baking bread (in bulk!) using an Army recipe he brought
home from the Korean War. Her baking is a delicious event to experience, especially when it’s “time for coffee” at the Moser home in North Dakota. She brings the snickerdoodles, sugar cookies, peanut butter cookies, oatmeal raisin cookies and molasses cookies for our sale every year. She’s pictured here deep frying her famous bread dough. Topped with butter, chocolate syrup, or strawberry jam, or maple syrup or white syrup or powdered sugar, fried bread dough is a taste of heaven! A wonderful mother to all of her family, this lady never ceases to amaze us. Thank you for your love, your support, and your homemade bread!

Homozygous Black...Homozygous Polled ~ Exactly what do those terms mean?In our college genetics books, homozygous is defined as having identical alleles at corresponding loci on homologous chromosomes so that the organism breeds true with respect to these loci. (the definition hasn't changed in 30+ years!)
Homozygous Black: In simpler terms, a homozygous black bull gives a black gene to his offspring every time. He "breeds true" for color. Black, which is dominant to the red color in cattle, will be the color of every animal sired by a ho-mozygous black bull. IF you have cows that carry the dilution gene, (yellow and gray females carry the dilution gene, as do some lighter red cows) they may give that dilution gene to their offspring, which "dilutes" the black color to gray. The
homozygous black bull has nothing to do with the resulting gray individual.
Homozygous Polled: Again, a homozygous polled bull will "breed true" and give a polled gene to each of his offspring. The polled gene is dominant to the horned gene, so all offspring from a homozygous polled bull will be polled.

SIMMENTAL BULLSMARKET ANALYSIS
We wanted to share a “snapshot” over time about where the calf market has been in the past. The chart and sidebar below show month-by-month pricing from January 2010 through August 2015 for 550# feeder steers. To go back even farther, a few year average prices for Choice 450# Steer Calves: 1996-$64.10, 1999-$92.92, 2002-$100.90, 2005-$140.06 (Cattle-Fax Averages) Why are we showing you this information? Because even with the recent “realignment” since the June 2015 high price, we are still in a very good place in this market comparatively. If you are in this business for the long haul, as most of you are, and genetics, pounds, customer service and reputation are important to you, then we will continue to do all we can to help you capitalize on the superior product you produce.
2015Average Prices:January $288.00February $277.00
March $290.00April $288.00May $288.00June $292.00July $275.00
August $273.00Source: USDA

Thanks to Zoetis, we enjoyed a KC game with customers Phil & Rhonda Perry
Back in 1996, Teresa & Don Schuyler (pictured above with Harry) bought their first Moser genetics-steer and heifer projects for their daughter Andrea. They became faithful bull customers, managing their fescue pastures in Jackson county to the utmost detail, and paying attention to every aspect and number in their beef production
enterprise. In the spring of 2003, they purchased a set of 7 replacement heifers from Lisa's father, Paul Skoch. Lisa was AIing them in May 2003 when her father passed away, and so those females have always been near and dear to Don & Teresa (and Lisa!). In 2011, after Don was diagnosed with "Transverse Myelitis", we offered to manage the
Schuyler cowherd. Don has fought back from near total paralysis to walking and helping again with their cows. "Old #73," (pictured above in the headgate on 10-6-15), is 1 of 4 of the original 7 Skoch females still in production for
Schuylers. At 13 years of age, they have proven their worth. Working together and utilizing both Moser and Schuyler resources and labor, this set of females is now an ET coop herd for Moser Ranch.
Deon & Becky Gocke, NE, have been cattle customers and friends since 2002. They have had a few select fall bulls in our sale for the past
several years. Deon will be here sale day as always; track him down if you have questions about his three 2015 bulls.
Our sincere thanks to Bill & Sylvia Brethour forallowing us to manage their cowherd since 2010
