TRANSFORMATION The effect of our sharing in the Body and Blood of Christ is to change us into what we receive. —Pope St. Leo the Great

The Second Va can Council: A 50th Anniversary Retrospec ve By the twenty-first Ecumenical Council of the Catholic Church, October 11, 1962-December 8, 1965; Edited by Jerry Back

Question: How should we treat others outside the teachings of our Catholic faith?

Answer from Gaudium et Spes: Respect and love ought to be ex-tended also to those who think or act differently than we do in social, political and even religious matters. In fact, the more deeply we come to understand their ways of thinking through such courtesy and love, the more easily will we be able to enter into dialogue with them. This love and good will, to be sure, must in no way render us indiffer-ent to truth and goodness. Indeed love itself impels the disciples of Christ to speak the saving truth to all men. But it is necessary to distinguish between error, which always merits repudiation, and the person in error, who never loses the dignity of being a person even when he is flawed by false or inadequate reli-gious notions. God alone is the judge and searcher of hearts, for that reason He forbids us to make judgments about the internal guilt of anyone. The teaching of Christ even requires that we forgive injuries, and ex-tends the law of love to include every enemy, according to the com-mand of the New Law: "You have heard that it was said: Thou shalt love thy neighbor and hate thy enemy. But I say to you: love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who persecute and calumniate you" (Matt. 5:43-44). Editor’s Note: Gaudium et Spes (the Pastoral Constitution on the Church in the Modern World) presents an overview of the Catholic Church's teachings regarding humanity's relationship to society, with special emphasis on economics, poverty, social justice, culture, sci-ence, technology and ecumenism.

FAZtor ‘s Notes by Fr. Arnold Zamora On the Feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood this weekend, popularly known as “Corpus Chris-ti,” we will be doing our annual procession around the block right after the Sunday 11:30AM Mass.

We will be carrying our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament as we expose him not just to the faithful Catholics, but to the entire world. This is a time when we can show our love for Christ in the Real Presence by honoring Him in a very public way. It is also a very nice way of bring-ing Jesus closer to our neighbors. We will also walk in procession as we are the “Body of Christ.” Speaking of the body, I was amazed to find our gym full of bodies last Friday evening. It was the Holy Name Preschool gradua-tion. Imagine it was just a preschool graduation and only the third time of doing a graduation ceremony; the whole gym was already filled with families. The preschool started with 6 graduating students, then it became 19 the following year, and this time we have 29 graduates. Congratulations to them and to their parents and more power to Mrs. Alice Seher, our preschool director and her staff. They are indeed making a difference in our community. Kudos! Starting next week, you will not be seeing my physical body for three weeks as I am scheduled to fly this Thursday to the Philip-pines. Its vacation time that I usually combine with some work, and that’s why I also call it “work-cation.” But this time, the work I will be doing will be in a form of a mission. It will be a continuation of my mis-sionary trip to Haiti few weeks ago. I will be visiting the century old churches that were turned to rubble by the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that struck my hometown province. I will also be visiting the towns devastated by the super-typhoon “Haiyan” that caused the loss of thousands of lives – of “bodies.” Please pray for my trip and my mis-sion. Make your bodies presentable to the Lord. “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have from God and that you are not your own?”(1Corinthians 6:19)

An old man lived alone in Idaho. He wanted to spade his potato gar-den, but it was very hard work. His only son, Bubba, who used to help him, was in prison. The old man wrote a letter to his son and described his predicament. Dear Bubba, I am feeling pretty bad because it looks like I won't be able to plant my potato garden this year. I'm just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. If you were here, all my troubles would be over. I know you would dig the lot for me. Love, Dad

A few days later he received a letter from his son.

Dear Dad, For heaven's sake, dad, don't dig up that garden, that's where I buried the BODIES!

Love, Bubba

At 4 the next morning, F.B.I. agents and local police showed up and dug up the entire area without finding any bodies. They apologized to the old man and left. That same day the old man received another letter

from his son.

Dear Dad, Go ahead and plant the potatoes now. That's the best I could do under the circumstances.

Love,

MOVIE NIGHT Our movie for this month’s MOVIE NIGHT on Thursday, June 26, 2014 starting at 6PM in Flanagan Center is SON OF GOD. Now, the larger-than-life story of The New Testament gets a larger-than life treatment in the stand-alone feature SON OF GOD. Told with the scope and scale of an action epic, the film fea-tures powerful performances, exotic locales, dazzling visual effects and a rich orchestral score from Oscar-winner Hans Zimmer. Portu-

guese actor Diogo Morgado portrays Jesus as the film spans from his humble birth through his teachings, crucifixion and ultimate resurrec-tion. It marks the first motion picture about Jesus' life since Passion of the Christ, released ten years ago.

The movie trailer is available on our website: www.holynamesf.org

Body and Blood of Christ John 6: 51-58

‘The one who eats this bread will live forever.’ The synagogue at Capernaum was filled to capacity. Inside,

Jesus was teaching and the local leaders of the Jewish faith were challenging his bold statements. The people who listened were amazed at the young miracle-worker who faced off against the old rabbis.

Jesus had made Capernaum his headquarters after being re-jected at Nazareth. He had come down from the hills to begin ministry in this worldly city of 10,000 people. Located on the northwest shores of the Sea of Galilee, the town was a busy fishing center. Capernaum was also a major stop on the routes to the east and did a brisk busi-ness from the caravans. With money to be collected, Capernaum had its share of tax collectors, among them Paul. Overseeing it all was the Roman garrison there.

From his seat Jesus let his voice fill the Synagogue. “I am the living bread that came down from heaven.”

Such bold words brought gasps from the old men and rabbis who were there. Even though Jesus had performed miracles for them, these skeptics scoffed at this outrageous assertion. Those who knew Jesus from Nazareth asked aloud: “Isn’t he the carpenter’s son. We know his parents. How can he claim to come down from heaven?”

Jesus continued despite their scorn. “If anyone eats this bread he will live forever. The bread that I will give is my flesh, which I give so that the world may live.”

At this the room became a babble of angry voices. One rabbi got to his feet and began to move toward Jesus.

Jesus stood himself and extending his hands above the assem-bly he shouted into the furor: “Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life and I will raise him up to life on the last day.”

The old rabbi came up and sputtered his indignation at Jesus. Many followed him as he left the room, unable to accept Jesus’ truth.

Jesus sat back down and folded his hands in his lap. Many of the men remained, sitting with Jesus in the silence. They looked at him in wonder, remembering his enticing words: “The one who eats this bread will live forever.”

The idea that Jesus was the Messiah, sent by God, was

too difficult for many to grasp. Later Jesus even challenged his

own disciples with the question: “And you, would you also like

to leave?”

As Jesus-followers today, we have not left. We’ve come

to hear this Sunday’s Gospel and his wondrous words: “The

one who feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me

and I in him.” This invites us to a miraculous exchange. In

Eucharist Jesus dwells in us and by this Communion we remain

in Christ!
