“MICHAELMAS”...what’s that? St. Michael Parish and School are blessed with many excellent ministries, projects, activities, and special interests. Indeed, we are a very generous parish family. For this reason, Father Aaron, joined by Deacon Wayne, the parish staff and council are looking for ways to limit the number of fundraisers throughout the year. Organizations are also being asked to budget the dollars that are needed in a given year and not to raise beyond what is needed. There is a true effort in progress to only raise funds that are needed for a specific purpose. In late 2015, the office began to ask individuals wanting to have a fundraiser to fill out forms so that objectives/goals could be determined. Questions were asked such as, how much will the event raise, how will the funds be used, who and how will the parish family or community benefit. We also looked at the time of the year the event was to be held and what else was going on during the time requested. All of these efforts are to limit the times that parishioners and or school parents are approached to buy or sell something.
We have begun to make progress on getting a realistic view of our fundraising and we plan to continue this practice of oversight balance. Our goal is to work towards two major fundraisers each year, the reverse raffle in the spring, and a new raffle for early fall. An added bonus of having only two major fundraisers is that volunteers won’t get burned out. Our fall initiative related to fundraising for 2016 will be a raffle timed with the St. Michael Feast Day
Celebration, Michaelmas! The plan is to combine our parish picnic of late August and our “We Give Thanks”
Dinner Auction of November into one big celebration on the Feast of St. Michael, Thursday, September 29,
2016, Michaelmas! The specific activities of the celebration will be outlined later, however Mass, a dinner and even a rock band are all a part of the plans, along with a raffle and a few silent auction items. We have a hopeful goal of raising $25,000 minus a $10,000 raffle prize. Less work,
more fun...we are going to put the fun back in fundraising!
The raffle tickets will be $50 each and only 500 tickets will be sold. There will be a guaranteed single prize of $10,000 to one winner. That is a 1
in 500 chance to win the $10,000! There will be no charge to attend the St. Michael Feast
Day Celebration, Michaelmas, and you do not have to purchase a raffle ticket to attend.
The plan is for this celebration, and raffle, to become an annual event. We will begin selling raffle tickets in mid-June through the night of the drawing on September 29th unless we sell all 500 tickets before then. The drawing will be at 8 P.M. in the Father Severin Life Center.
Gaming laws do not allow us to send raffle tickets to be purchased by mail. Once purchased, however, we can mail your raffle ticket to you. In mid-June you will find envelopes at the entrance to the church and in the pews. On the outside of the envelope there is a place for your contact information. You can place your check or money for the number of tickets you wish to purchase in the envelope and drop it in the pink envelope locked box at the entrance to the church. You can also purchase tickets Monday through Friday, 8:30 A.M. to 4:00 P.M., in the Parish Office. Plus, members of the church leadership team will have numbered tickets to sell. Finally, you can mail us your check and include your name, address and telephone number, and we can mail your numbered
ticket to you. Mark your calendar for a grand celebration...Thursday, Sept. 29, 2016
