Its so positive or theuture, to be doingsomething so longterm, such a visionaryproject.Jennier Cox, Derby

Your tree will be a 2 year old, 40-60cm little sapling.

This is the size oresters recommend or woodland

schemes, as they transplant eectively and

    establish themselves quickly.

We host three events during the planting season between

November and March. This is when trees are in a dormant

phase, allowing them to be moved to their new home in

    The National Forest.

On the day, ater choosing your tree, you will be guided

to the planting area. Friends and amily are welcome to

join you, and many people bring a camera to record this

    special event.

    what and when

    we plant

    Oak (right). In Britain oaks

can live or over 1,000 years.

Acorns in their cups are a

    well known eature o the

    tree. The Anglo-Saxon name

or oak was aik, so the seed

    was known as an aik-com.

Silver Birch (above). Silver Birch has

white bark. Its twigs are hairless and

    the lea edges are double-toothed.

The branches droop at the tip which

is why its scientifc name is pendula or

    hanging.

Ash (let). The common ash has long

silvery grey stems and branches that

reach out widely and twist skywards.

The leaves are pinnate, which means

they have a central stem with 9 to 13toothed oval leaves, arranged in pairs

and a single lea at the tip.
