International harmonization programs

• Cooperation with other ANSPs, airlines, industry and other partners: AIRE, NEXGEN, SESAR– AIRE with both the FAA and the SJU by supporting

several flight campaigns to promote the utilization by the airlines of the new generation ATM systems and procedures (in-flight reroutes, data link communications).

– Supporting both USA/NEXGEN and EU/SESAR programs as NAV Portugal ATS units are the physical interface between those programs.

International harmonization programs

• Cooperation with other ANPS, airlines, airports, industry and other partners:

– Participation on 30 projects of the SESAR program development;

– Supporting current flight trial campaigns to validate the technical and operational program concepts, • SMART – to share a/c flights (progression and

planning) between ATC and airlines flight operations centers to support optimized in-flight changes.

• ICATS - flight object (FO) concept validation on transatlantic flights.

AIR-GROUND OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY“Interception take-offs” for NBs to save fuel/CO2 emissions

Result at Lisbon airport due to less rolling times on departures (NBs south bound) since 2010:

- 15,2% CO2 (Equiv. to - 2 Million Lts/Year)

Interoperability between ICAO Reg. (NAT, EUR, AFI, CAR)

• Active participation on the:– ICAO NAT, EUR, and “SAT” technical and operational

groups;– AEFMP (Algeria, Spain, France, Morocco and Portugal)

ATS working arrangements & improvement plans;

• Financial support of the NAT arrangements to monitor the aircraft RVSM capabilities.

• Participation on the Satellite Navigation “EGNOS” system deployment. Also as shareholder (8.33%) of the ESSP entity that exploits the EGNOS system.

Regional cooperation and “Free Route”

• Facilities exchange with neighbours, eg.:– With ONDA (Morocco ANSP) by delivering radar data and

hosting a/g stations (VHF) on NAV Portugal sites– Sharing radar data with AENA (Spain)

First FIR in Europe to implement Free Route (Lisbon). Concept to be extended to adjacent FIRs: Oceanic Santa Maria, Canarias (Spain), Oceanic sectors of Casablanca (Morocco), Santiago & Asturias sectors of Madrid (Spain), Oceanic sectors of Brest (France) by 2014.
