The Friar’s Corner By Fr. Michael Duesterhaus

Dear Brother Knights, We had a nice evening marking our patronal feast, Our Lady of Angels, Friday, August 2nd.

Hopefully as the year’s progress, this will become a larger affair, but for the first time up, not too bad. Again, thanks for those who came and participated and Vivat Jesus! Fraternally, Fr. Duesterhaus

-And Now a Bit of Humor-

The Faith of a Child A little girl was talking to her teacher about whales. The teacher said it was physically impossible for a whale to swallow a human because even though it was a very large mammal, its throat was very small. The little girl stated that Jonah was swallowed by a whale. Irritated, the teacher reiterated that a whale could not swallow a human; it was physically impossible. The little girl said, "When I get to heaven I will ask Jonah." The teacher asked, "What if Jonah went to hell?" The little girl replied, "Then you ask him."

The Word from the Admiral By PFN Jim Casey, PFN

Greetings Brother Sir Knights,

As the newly elected Admiral, my duties this year are to assist our Faithful Navigator and Faithful Captain in whatever ways they deem I can be helpful. My main duty however, is to recruit new members to our Assembly. Recruiting new members is essential to the continued growth and well-being of our Assembly and the Order. The Supreme Knight has asked us all to become ambassadors, to reach out to Catholic men and their families and invite them to become part of our Order.

If you know any Knight who has at least one year in the 3rd Degree, please encourage him to join us in the 4th Degree. Our primary purpose is to foster the spirit of patriotism. We can always be found participating in, or leading, community observances of Independence Day, Flag Day, Veterans Day, and other civic ceremonies that honor our nation and the men and women who have fought and died to protect it.

Our next 4th Degree Exemplification is in Virginia Beach, on Saturday, October 26th. If you know an eligible 3rd Degree Knight, please provide me with his contact information so our admissions committee can recruit him.

Kelley Council Officers Installation Ceremony

July 15, 2013

From the Commander By SK Phil Kennedy

We are off to the races. Since the start of the new fraternal year, we have supported several color corps activities, e.g., Dale City 4th of July Parade, Kelley and SEAS council officer installation ceremonies, and providing honors guards at SK Larry Kane’s viewing and funeral

Mass. Many thanks go to those who came out and supported these events.

Congratulations also go to those Sir Knights who marched in or supported the Dale City 4th of July Parade. Your efforts did not go unnoticed because the combined marching unit of Kelley and Richardson Assemblies took first place as the best “Civilian Marching Unit” by parade officials. Another shining example of our “Patriotism” being recognized by the local community. Keep up the good work!

Over the next few months, there are several color corps events I want to call your attention to. Here they are:

26 Aug – Assembly Officer Installation

04 Sep – Fr. Vincent Capodanno Memorial Mass

02 Oct – Color Corps Appreciation (K)night

12 Oct –Arlington Diocese’s Bi-annual Pilgrimage to the National Basilica

13 Oct – Living Rosary at SEAS

14 Oct – Columbus Day Celebration at Union Station

19 Oct – Presentation and posting Colors at Fr. Kelley Council PGK Dinner

26 Oct – 4th Degree Exemplification, Virginia Beach

As each event draws near, more information will be sent out requesting support in the near future. Again, please consider supporting these activities as your schedule allows for it.

Until we serve again…

Korean War Memorial Service Project

By SK Phil Kennedy

Mark down on your calendar this important date– 3 November. This is the day we are traveling to the National Mall to conduct our annual cleaning of the Korean War Memorial. This is an excellent opportunity for all of us to band together and honor those brave men and women who gave so much to contain communist expansion on the Korean peninsula. Details about this extraordinary service project will be sent out to you by mid-October. Stay tuned!
