about the Light, and MSIA has quite a few publications and discourses that teach about the Light. We've given it the acronym, Living In God's Holy Thoughts. And we've said that Light is a part of the essence of spirituality; it’s a part that can be recognized and related to readily because it can be seen. It's both an inner quality and an outer quality. The inner quality is more of the Spiritual Light and the outer quality is more of the Magnetic Light. It's good to keep those two things separated, since they are different qualities. We say everyone is the Light and this is very true. I think we all know that there are different degrees of Light as well as different colors of Light; so to say that someone is not the Light would certainly be an unawareness pattern.

The Sound or the tone of the Current flows out of the heart of God is referred to as the Sound Current, and if we were to use an acronym for that, we might say –Speaking Of Ultimates Now Divine–that's the Sound Current. The Sound is a much different quality than the Light. We see the Light when we are

working in the lower realms of Light–on the physical, astral, causal, mental and etheric realms–and it's very beautiful. When you reach the Soul Realm, you are impressed with the Light, and that is the Sound Current. On every level of Light, in every plane, in every dimension there is a keeper of the Sound Current. This is the One appointed by Sat Nam, out of the Sach Khand (this is in the higher realms of Light), who is given the keys to the Sound Current, and who is referred to as the Mystical Traveler.

The Mystical Traveler, through the Preceptor Consciousness, has the keys on every realm for the flow of the Light and for the Sound Current. On any realm, including the physical, you must find that One who has the connection to the Sound Current if you are to be connected to the sound that is inside of you and to the Sound that pervades all existences. You might feel that the Light is enough and wonder why the Sound is important. When you are working with the Mystical Traveler Consciousness, through MSIA, you will be traveling the inner realms of consciousness in Soul

the Sound Current Many people have asked

Consciousness. We are not involved in astral body projection or in traveling in the causal body or the mental body or the etheric body. In the higher realms, the only vehicle that we are involved with is Soul Consciousness, which is the one that you want to work with if you're going to work in the line of Masters of the Sound Current. When you have illuminated yourself, through the help of the Mystical Traveler Consciousness and the forces of Light that work with It or under It, then you can illuminate your way in the inner worlds of your own universe and in the outer universe; so that wherever you go, you won't stumble or fall, according to the orthodox doctrine of man's fall. But you won't really move rapidly on these levels until you are very familiar with the territory. You work more with the Light in the lower realms of consciousness. The Light is a tremendous force of energy and you must gradually learn to work with it, to attune to it, and to use its power. This is why we say, "Don't become a spiritual glutton and read every book on the market or listen to every tape of every seminar in two weeks.” It will turn against you because you won't be able to handle that force of energy. These things come gradually. After you've learned to traverse the astral realm in Soul Consciousness, you will move into the causal realm and learn to handle that. And then you will move into the next realm and so on. One of the keys is that the higher you get, the more refined the quality of Light and Sound becomes; but in that refinement, it is more secure: In other words (this may sound like a little double talk), the less solid it becomes, the more lasting it is. On this physical level, the quality of Light

and Sound is extremely transient. The physical body is sustained here for an average of sixty or seventy years. If you live to be eighty or ninety years old, you're considered an old person and maybe fortunate to have lived so long or cursed to have lived so long, depending upon the type of life that you have had. Most people want to live a long time on this level even if they seem to be miserable because this is the realm with which they are most familiar.

The Light is a nice key; you can work with the Light and call in the Light and bring the Light into yourself, and it will come in to work with you. The Sound Current doesn't necessarily work that way. If you want that, you have to move your consciousness to it. You don't wish it to yourself or imagine it to yourself or anything else like that. The biggest "storyteller” in the group doesn't have it by telling the story that he has it. You have it or you don't, and there's no imagination involved in it. This is a very high form of ultimate reality. Quite a while ago, I was talking to a lady who sometimes seems to come across as a self-proclaimed Messiah. In my own quiet way, I had been teaching her about Soul Travel for about a year, and the last time I visited with her, she was telling me about how high she'd gone in the Soul Realm and how she had reached into God-consciousness. I said, "My, what does it look like there?” She said, "You tell me." I said, "I don't have adequate words.“ She said, "Then I'll just tell you the best I can. The Light there is fantastic. And there are the most beautiful things there." I couldn't really argue with what she said so I said,

New Day Herald 98 New Day Herald msia.org @msiaorg New Day Herald 98 New Day Herald msia.org @msiaorg

Page 10: The New Day Herald | May 2016

"That sounds pretty familiar. I wouldn't want to say that's not so. However, could you tell me anything that's really noticeable about the Soul Realm?” And she went on to repeat pretty much what she had already said. And then she asked, "Did I answer your question for you?” I said, "Yes, you did. You have answered my question.” She had answered it because she couldn't. When you get into the Soul Realm and above, the noticeable thing is the Sound. The Light is not only seen; it is heard. It's Sound.

The "storyteller” within somebody may say, "I've done this and I've done that,” and the Mystical Traveler may just sit and observe and not say, "Yes, you have,” or "No, you haven't,” but he Knows full well whether you have or haven't. It's never necessary to take anyone's inventory and say, "Yes, this,” or "No, that,” because ultimately it will all come back to the person who created it. So it becomes again the avenue of—you must always save yourself. You must always become responsible for yourself and

all your actions. You must progress individually. No one else can do it for you. The Mystical Traveler can't. Jesus didn't. Other great teachers didn't. They can direct, guide, help; but, at some point, you have to step forward, and that is the beginning of your own salvation. "Salvation” may be a poor word to use, but we use it for lack of a better one. I think you understand that what we're saying is that you become free and have spiritual liberation in this physical level of consciousness, that you become spiritually free and that you know it. If a person asks me how they are doing spiritually, the unspoken answer is that they are still in spiritual bondage because they don't know their spiritual freedom yet. In other words, they are still working out a lot of karma. And so, of course, the next person thinks, "I want people to think I'm spiritually free so I won't ask how I'm doing.” They are just as bound. Until you're free, you're not. The words don't make you free. The actions don't make you free. What makes

you free is your freedom. Do you understand that? It's a beingness, a state of existence. It's not tomorrow or next week; it is right now. The whole action of the intellect, the emotions, the imagination, the body, and the Spirit exist NOW. If you wait for the end of some great dispensation, say the year 2000, to be free, you might as well wait until the year 2025 or 2050 or come back in 3000 and live it again. Spiritual liberation is possible HERE, NOW. And if you can't do through your consciousness, you become free through the Mystical Traveler Consciousness. And when you reach up to the Preceptor Consciousness, you are becoming a co-creator with the Sugmad.

The Sound and the Light were talked about in the Bible. "Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.” The "rod” is the Light and the "staff” is the Sound. The rod of power is the Light, and the staff is that thing that always sustains, and that is the Sound. Those who had the keys and were working with the Light and the Sound

in Biblical days are the Master forces that we're working with now. It's nice to know that we're not just sitting on the edge of a freaky consciousness, but that we're sitting right in the center of universes, and all we have to do is flow and release and move through this level, keeping attuned to the consciousness of Light and Sound. When you really understand what I'm saying, you'll find out that the hang-ups of this level no longer exist. Everything becomes "situations” and you don't have problems; you have situations. As an example—I have a situation when I sit with my legs crossed. When I uncross them, I have a new situation. The "problem” comes only from your perception. So if you talk about "situations” and "change” instead of "problems” and "blowing it,” you have immediately elevated your consciousness and placed yourself within the flow of the Sound and the action of the Light. So the quest is releasing karma, turning to the power of the Light and the Sound of God, and letting the Mystical Traveler give you

the keys on the inner realms. It's rather simple. The Mystical Traveler gives the keys away just as rapidly as you open to receive them. People who have been studying in MSIA for three or four years are having those experiences where they're here with their eyes open and they're there with their eyes open, and they're saying, "You know, up until I did it, I didn't really know what you were talking about, but now that I'm doing it, I can't tell you what you were talking about, but I know it.” And I look at them and say, "I know that you know. You didn't have to say that.” It sometimes seems unnecessary to talk about these things, but we have to fulfill this level also, and that's why we have seminars and Light Studies and programmings and aura balancings and tapes and discourses. They help complete this level.

If you take any sound, any word, and say it enough times, you will alter your consciousness. Let me give you an example that comes out on a level that you can probably see without too

much effort. The girl's name is Harriet Smith. She marries Bob Schneider. Now her name is Harriet Schneider. Before she married, she really loved the guy and they got along well. Now, after one year of being Harriet Schneider, she seems to hate her husband and can't get along with him. She has picked up the new frequency that is reflected in the new name, and it doesn't fit her. So she's having a rough time. Many people come up to me and say, "Now that I'm divorced, I want to change my name back to my maiden name. What do you think?” I say, "Suit yourself.” They know their married name didn't fit. There is an art of finding out the frequency that is best for you, the name that is best for you. LA'S say a man was named "Schmergleheimer Besendofer” and he wanted to change his name because "Schmergleheim er Besendofer” wasn't really a good frequency for him. So he went to someone who had the ability to meditate in order to find the best frequency and bring it forward. So he was given a new moniker, and he accepted it. But the new one was

Swilderagerpinarthagerpurdleof” which didn't take him too far because it wasn't really a change of frequency. The names Mary and Marion are really the same name because they're the same frequency. So you might be aware that you must sometimes change more than a few letters to change the frequency. And yet, sometimes a very subtle change will change the frequency. Let's say that Suzie Hanson married James Hansen; she might not be able to hold to that new frequency because it is different, even though there is only one letter of the name that has changed.

Chanting something over and over continually will alter where you are; it will move your consciousness into that new frequency. But you must form a positive attitude to what you're chanting in order to make it work for you. I have never understood why a person will come into a spiritual group to learn something and then be negative all the time that they are being presented with the new ideas. If you're going to learn, you'll have a positive attitude towards learning. Too often, people say, "I don't want to do it that way. If it's going to be done, I want to do it my way. Make it work; show me, in spite of myself. If I have to be positive and happy to feel good, then how do I know something's taking place? But if I am negative in my expression and it still

takes place, then I'll know something was really there.” This is like saying, "Lord, walk on the water; now take my bag and put it over here,” and then saying, "I really didn't want it here. I wanted it over there. You should have read my mind. You're no Lord. I can trick you. I want a new Lord.” You may find out that not too much happens except that you get to coma back again. In the human consciousness we tend to think that we are really great. And we are. But the abuse of greatness is the abuse of the power of your potential greatness. And the idea of humility is fine. But if you're so humble that you don't let anything shine out, you're not going to be able to Light up the path for anyone. It's one thing to have pride and it's a different thing to be arrogant. Those are different qualities, even though they're based on the same feeling. It might be best if we kept in mind the protective quality that it is the Father that does the work, that it is the Spirit that does the work, that it is the Inner Master, the Mystical Traveler, the Preceptor, that One that we can't define, who does the work. And we seek only to be an open channel. And when you keep that in mind, you can walk the high ground, and there is nothing that can be denied to you. But, then, why should it be denied to you when you're in a positive consciousness, working with positive energy? You're on a positive path of unfoldment.

When a person studies conscientiously—and that means as an on-going process—in MSIA for a minimum of two years, they may receive the first physical initiation which connects him to the Sound Current of God. These initiates become more the direct representatives of the Mystical Traveler Consciousness than anyone else in the Movement, regardless of how well someone else can say the words, because the initiates are reaching into the Sound Current. Even though the initiate may be working out of the causal realm, they will reflect the pure essence that issues forth out of the causal realm on the Sound Current. Another person who is working from the causal realm may be karmically laden, which may cause you to pick up all sorts of funny things from his expression. The teachings of MSIA, through the Mystical Traveler Consciousness, become more and more pure as you listen to the Sound. The interesting thing is that all the teachings are inside of you. The prototype of the universe resides within the nucleus of each cell of your body. So, if you want to see universal consciousness, just look to your cells, and on that level, you can see that you are indeed involved in a form of universal consciousness.

Spiritual exercise goes by other names, other synonyms, like “Do all things in the name of the Lord.” The name of the Lord is first of all something that’s inaudible. So that makes it kind of challenging until you realize that name is already being called out. It doesn’t really require much of anything from you other than a willingness and intention to hear and to listen to the Lord.

We use the ear as a symbolic reference point. What we find is that there’s this membrane that acts as a receiver of the vibration. Sound is a vibration more than anything else. Sound is heard because it gets things vibrating. Then those vibrations put out an energy, and then the variations in the vibration can be heard as a sound.

The physical, human ear is tuned to a band of vibration. The spiritual ear is tuned to a much wider band. That’s really the one we’re inter-ested in. So if there’s a membrane, a receiving mechanism for the human ear, then consider there’s a receiving mechanism for the spiritual ear, for however we would manage to hear what is physically inaudible as the sound current.

First of all, that requires a certain kind of intention having to do with bypassing what’s heard physically. There’s something about what’s heard physically that has a grabbing nature. So it’s very easy to get fixed on what we hear physically. We’re conditioned as hu-man beings to do that because that’s how we function physically. There’s an attribute which works for us to be attuned, to listen physically. It has a value in giving us informa-tion so that we can respond better. It also has value as a protection.

It takes intelligence and commitment to bypass the physical sound. It’s not about canceling it. So you’re not asked to cancel yourself in your physical experience although some people interpret the physical experience as being un-necessary. What’s important is that you have a willingness to move beyond the physical, to what has been called the metaphysical, the spiritual, or the psychic areas of your conscious-ness. That’s done because you can.

Spiritual exercises are not based on a physical ability. So if you judge yourself based on your physical ability, you’re likely going to give up

before you start. The importance is to have an intention, a willingness, an openness to move beyond your capa-bilities as you know them. It’s about opening yourself to unknown abilities.

What we talk about is a technique called a tone. As we chant that tone and we do our physical part, it has a magical characteristic that transmits consciousness and awareness beyond the physical. It’s chanting a tone that’s charged, so that’s an important element. It’s not merely what’s written on a piece of paper or what could be spo-ken. You could have the tones that we work with spoken or written, but they’re still not charged. It takes the spiri-tual charging. Someone that has that charge can then chant those tones. Once you pick up the charge yourself, then you can, in effect, do it for yourself.

Page 21: The New Day Herald | May 2016

As you vibrate the name of the Lord for your-self, that’s a spiritual exercise that has a way of taking something and sort of shaking it. It has a way of equalizing just by you vibrating with the tone. It shakes out what doesn’t really belong, and it balances out things that are not in rhythm. So that’s one of the great values of chanting the tone. It releases what’s not part of that higher vibration because it just can’t hold on.

There’s a physical process called the centri-fuge that’s practiced in chemistry where you spin something very rapidly to purify. If you want to get something that remains in a liquid state, but it has material elements in it, you can put it in the centrifuge and the material elements are spun out. The liquid element is then much more pure. That’s part of what we do as we chant our tone.

When you move with that higher vibration, it’s like centrifugal force. As it moves, things that cannot maintain that movement are thrown off and the things that can maintain the movement hold. So chanting the tone is purifying. You can actually precipitate out by this movement the things that are material, and what’s left can be very pure.

What I would recommend is that you chant the name of the Lord, have that vibration, as you leave the world each day and as you enter it. Those are very important points. It’s like sunrise and sunset. There’s a transition there. There’s a birthing of consciousness as the soul is re-entering the flesh. It doesn’t have to happen just once a day. It can happen many, many times a day.

What we strive for is that it’s constantly hap-pening. So you develop an ability to leave the body and re-enter very rapidly, rather than something that takes a long period of time and only during the sleep or unconsciousness processes. Those times are an automatic way that everybody does in some version.

What we’re doing is we’re refining that pro-cess of leaving and entering the body. You can pick up a more charged vibration because you’re doing the spiritual exercise as you walk through the world. You can walk in a refined state that becomes the way of the Lord. It takes care of all the things you brought up au-tomatically because it gives you the altitude, higher vision, knowledge, and wisdom. It gives you the loving consciousness that takes care of yourself.

That loving consciousness overflows as an outpouring so that where you walk, the name of the Lord, the vibration, is charged where you step or put yourself physically and where you put your thoughts. Those thoughts be-come something that’s charged so that you could look at a plant and it’s blessed in that vibration. It’s much more multi-dimensional than that. I’m giving it specifics so you can look practically and relate to the experience as, “Oh, I can do that” or “I already do that.” There’s a recognition that goes on that wakes you up so you’re remembering yourself as a spiritually-charged being --- someone who is known and claimed by the Lord because you carry that vibration.

It’s been talked about as something like a stamp on the forehead, which would be like a physical identification point. It’s more easily seen in the eyes because that vibration will go out through the eyes, but it doesn’t just go out through the eyes. It’s a vibration that resonates all over although it has more of an opening through the eyes. Then if someone can see the spiritual centers, they would more directly see that vibration in others.

Seeing spiritually is usually something that people do obliquely. If I look at you physically, an automatic conditioning is engaged. I’m locked in that physical reference point. One of those things that we’re practicing is relaxing the physical engagement so that we can still be aware of the perceptions.

It takes a lot of practice and tremendous ability to have your eyes and ears open into the physi-cal world and still be open in the spirit. Not too many people do that because it’s a big, big stretch. So we practice, and we’re practicing. It’s not important that you understand and com-prehend. It's important for you to choose it and claim it as your true nature.

One of the ways that people disconnect them-selves from their blessings is because they don’t claim the blessings consciously. Instead, they open their eyes, and they identify with the world. Some people dread that it's morn-ing instead of, “Oh, God! It’s a good morning! I’m born again! I’m awake in the world, and I’m still in the spirit!” That’s the beauty. That’s the magnificence. And it’s allowed to go out as a vibration that makes beautiful what might be considered ugly or profane. It has that trans-formative quality that dissolves the negative and becomes the good.

There’s a story in scripture where Jesus and the disciples are walking along and the disciples say, “Oh, look at the ugly, smelly dog carcass.” Jesus looks and says, “See those pearly teeth!”

What’s going on? The transformative vision is tuning in to the highest quality of what’s seen and experienced in the world. That’s the same one that says, “When you’re see-ing me, when you’re hearing me, that’s the Father,” because there is no real difference here. The lines are open.

That consciousness that is the highest God is transmitting its relationship into the flesh, and it does it with ordinariness. So all the elements of the human being are intact. They’re not some-how put aside or exempted. They’re intact while the vibration of the Lord, the Father, the Father-Mother-God vibration, is transmitting and has the driver’s seat in what’s driving the human being, the flesh.

Page 23: The New Day Herald | May 2016

It’s like using a clutch with a manual transmission. If you don’t have that clutch engaged, you can work the gears all day long and never get your car really moving. So the clutch is a mechanism that is required to put the car in gear.

As a responsible creator you invite or invoke your intentions. If you forget you’re divine, then the tendency is to act from a reactive or lower nature. You tend to remember fallacy and in-adequacy and act accordingly. There tends to be a lot of stumbling, fum-bling, bumbling, falling, getting bruised, getting upset, wanting to blame, and wanting to take it out on something or someone. All of that has to come back to the creator. It’s not likely very fun when it comes back.

Upon awakening, as you realize you are entering the world, as you come conscious to yourself in the world, that moment is a critical choice point. In that moment, you can become instantly aware of the vibration of the Lord. It’s a sacred, holy vibration. You can have a sense about yourself that you’re sacred and you’re holy first, even if you have done things that don’t rep-resent your sacredness. You don't need to identify with your negative creation. You can release negativ-ity. You could say to yourself, “That’s not like me. That’s not me. I forgive myself. In fact, it’s so much not like

me, I am just going to forget about it. I release the negativity as any kind of a reference point for my consciousness.”

The beauty of grace is that the Spirit does it for you to a certain degree. It takes it out of the con-scious memory and puts it in a re-pository in the unconscious or the subconscious to be dealt with later when you’re more able to handle it. Remember, God gives us only what we can handle.

So the two main points about tun-ing into the soul vibration are: First --- as you’re leaving the world, as you realize you’re going out of the body, which takes some awareness and vigi-lance, be conscious that you’re mov-ing out of the body. Second --- as you do that, you want to have the focus on this vibration. It gives you a target for where you are going as you leave the body. This vibration will keep you directed into the highest levels. If you’re not holding the vibration, then you’re subject to whatever vibration you’re holding, like the last thought you had.

There’s a story from John-Roger of a shop owner and his sons. The shop owner knows he’s dying, and he’s having his sons chant the names of God. Suddenly, he realizes they’re all around him and he says, “Who’s minding the store?” and then he dies.

New Day Herald 2322 New Day Herald msia.org @msiaorg New Day Herald 2322 New Day Herald msia.org @msiaorg

Page 24: The New Day Herald | May 2016

“As a responsible

creator you invite or invoke your intentions. If

you forget you’re divine, then

the tendency is to act from a

reactive or lower nature.”

So his last thought was on wor-rying about who’s minding the store, and he got taken into that.

Another element to that, like the moral of this story, is about the importance of chanting the name constantly and having that con-stantly on your lips. You may ask, “These physical lips?” No, the ones that are inside, the ones that are spoken from your heart.

It’s also that you’re vigilant in up-holding the principles and stan-dards of thy God, the worship, to the end. Take care that you’re not mocking the principles by think-ing something like, “Well, I know there’s this redemption plan. So

in the last moments, I claim the redemption. Up to the last mo-ments I can mess around, fool around, and not really hold up the standards. In the last moment I’m going to claim that forgiveness clause and claim the Lord like a thief on the cross.”

If you’ve got the opportunity in the last moment to claim the Lord, then claim Him. So no matter what, claim that vibration. But if you know that in reality it’s for you to do now, to uphold that vibration and constantly be raising and lifting yourself because that’s what that vibration does, then maintain that vigilance.

New Day Herald 2524 New Day Herald msia.org @msiaorg New Day Herald 2524 New Day Herald msia.org @msiaorg

Page 25: The New Day Herald | May 2016

With that vigilance comes a great responsibility to maintain that vibration. You start living more and more sanctified. It’s not so much about the content of what you do. It’s much more the intent by which you do it.

Let’s say that you kill. What does that mean? You sacrificed some form of life, animal, plant, or whatever it was. In order to sustain this level, something gets sacrificed. The life force of that substance, we take in. Some people try to back out of that and say, “I’ll just become a breatharian.” Well, they’re still killing the air. They may argue, “Air is not alive.” It isn’t? You’re saying that it’s not a living vibra-tion? It’s not something that the life force that is God’s energy is in as it is in all of creation? You’re saying it’s not in the elements of oxygen? How long would any of us survive in this world without oxygen? Remember, out of a living God comes all things. All things are alive in God.

We really can’t get away from taking on the gift of God. So in knowing that life is a gift that we receive, we can give thanks. We can give thanks for our breath, for our food, for the clothing we wear, for the places we go that offer us a sanctuary. That’s another way of being grateful, and I’ll spell it this way --- graceful. You have God’s grace in and through you in all that you do.

Grace is in our next breath, and that grace is sustained out of a consciousness of the gift that is received. The praise goes up in receiving the gift. Praise is really an appreciation of what is being done for us. You can maintain that appreciation constantly. You can have a constant prayer that is in praise, a praise of God, a praise of the Lord. It’s not about verbalizing it. It’s the attitude that all things are somehow ap-preciated even if we don’t under-stand them. We don’t strike out against the least one. We leave it to God as a trust that good is the essence of all of the creation.

Remember the secret of soul transcendence from John-Roger? "Look for the good, the divine, in all people and things and leave the rest to God." That’s looking for the good and being grateful. When you don’t see good, trust that good is still pres-ent. That’s leaving the rest to God.

You might think, “God, I just can’t see the good in this. So I’ll leave it to You. I trust who You are and what You’ve done so all of cre-ation is good.”

You don’t need to understand. You don’t need to know why God would do such a thing or why God would allow such a thing. Choose to trust that it is good, and praise God.

Often the best way to praise the Lord is to do that in silence, in-wardly, least we get tempted by what we experience outwardly to react, to forget the divine and to forget that it is all good. One way you can experience it physi-cally is you feel like you’re smil-ing inside. You feel yourself beaming and glowing within. It doesn’t have to be something that gets out as an effusive quality. It can be just an inner sense that things are right with God. It’s a beautiful day regard-less. These are the qualities I associate with the Saints. As the negativity visits them, the Saints just maintain that beaming smile inside. It’s in a transcendent place that can’t be corrupted or somehow taken by what goes on in the world. It really is beautiful. So realize that your sainthood is present because it takes one to know one.

At the conclusion of this workshop, we have several gifts for you including a CD with the Spirit of Peace Meditation by Leigh & Gathering of Peacemakers by John and the book

Loving Each Day for Peacemakers.

Father-Mother God, we ask at this time, as those who are gathered as Your initiates and ministers in the Christ and the Traveler's work being done in this world, that we do extend the energy, the Light, that touches each Soul and turns them to God. We ask to be those who are emissaries of the Sound Current, those who carry that Sound of initiation, so that where we walk, the ground is touched with this energy and vibration with God.

We ask to be instruments of Your blessing, to do whatever we can to stand in Your place, to speak Your message, to be available to those who do not yet know what they seek.

We ask to be opened in our consciousness, that we are sensitive to Your pulse, to Your direction.

We ask to be willing to be available to put aside our personal agendas, interests, and attachments, that we may bless those, through You, who are looking to have their soul anchored to God.

We take this moment to allow ourselves to see a vision of what this may be, to see all the ways that people are looking --- the places, the circumstances --- and to see how we may assist and support this action.

We ask that this blessing be extended to all the ministers and initiates in the Movement of Spiritual Inner Awareness, whether they are a part of this action consciously or unconsciously, in whatever form.

We extend this blessing into the Christ action that is taking place on the planet, that all may awaken to the love of God that heals, that nurtures, that is the provider of all things.

We are those who anchor this vision for greater peace and harmony on the planet, so we see people putting aside their separation, their animosity, their justification for withholding or taking positions that would go against another.

And we ask through Your spirit to lift all at this time, to lift the negativity of each person and all the people collectively, for the entire planet, that there is a healing that is done by Grace, that is done because we ask in Your will being done.

We also see the vision that we rejoice amongst one another, that greater laughter is heard and felt, and that more and more we find ourselves as one family living on the planet at this time, children of God.

And we ask for the strength and the courage to carry forth our part in this vision.

We give thanks that we have been chosen and have chosen back, and we are willing to choose in Your name to those who are now being chosen and are choosing back.

“Sound is vibration, oscillation and

not just that.”

Alexandre Tannous has been active as a musician, educator, composer, and as an ethnomusicologist. His compositions are frequently performed in the United States, Europe, and in Asia. As a musician, he has performed a variety of musical styles including classical, jazz, rock, and non-Western music. Alexandre is also active as an ethnomusicologist. He has conducted fieldwork for 17 years in over 40 countries around the world. For the past eleven years he has been researching the therapeutic and esoteric properties of sound from three different perspectives—Western scientific,

Eastern philosophical, and shamanic societal beliefs. This has lead him to design a protocol of an integrated experience he calls “Sound Meditation” in which he shares the findings from his research, raising an awareness to how a specifically designed sound can have the ability to help us to disconnect from habitual patterns, and guiding people in how to disconnect from the mind while listening to the traditional instruments he plays. He currently works as a sound therapist and teaches this practice. He has recently been featured at the PTS class, IHOP-4: Journey into the Sound Current of God.

Page 34: The New Day Herald | May 2016

NDH: Let's start with the big question first. What is sound?

Alexandre Tannous: Sound is vibration, oscillation and pulsation. Most people think that sound is just vibration. It is, but it's not just that. They often neglect to mention that it's also oscillation and pulsation.

Vibration is really complex. The best way to understand it is by thinking that when you play a gong, for example, that metallic membrane starts to vibrate when you hit it with a mallet, and this causes the metallic molecules to be excited, and to vibrate. This excitement causes the air molecules around the gong to heat up, and the vibration comes out of the membrane of the gong in the form of waves. The distance between one wave and another is what we call Hertz (Hz), or cycles per second. When we say that a sound frequency is 1600 Hz it means that the wave occurs 1600 times per second. This vibration reaches our ears and causes the microscopic hairlike cells, or cilia, in our ears to vibrate, and to transmit this in nerve impulses to the auditory cortex in the brain. What happens in the auditory cortex is a very complex mechanism that we don't know much about.

NDH: I think of sound as vibration…but light is also vibration. John-Roger, the founder of MSIA, has said something interesting: that you can live without the Light but you can't live without the Sound. It seems as though sound is a more primordial or direct force than Light. If they're both vibrations, what's the difference between light and sound?

AT: Light is a faster, higher rate of vibration. And that would apply whether you're talking about the spectrum of visible light, or infrared, or ultraviolet and on up. The more you speed up this vibration, the more you change realms until you get to x-rays and beyond. So many people say that sound is more important than light. And why would that be? Is it because it causes more fundamental change in solid objects, and beings, and everything that's material? But then probably light can affect that as well. There is something called light therapy, that some experts are experimenting with. These are things that we need to learn more about. The problem is that we don't have the proper tools and the science to understand it.

Science is starting to take sound seriously. We can see where scientific studies in the medical field have shown how sound

can help people heal. But there's still so much research that needs to be done. One would almost have to take a multidisciplinary approach to understand this subject area, like a medieval scholar who didn't just know about one thing. They would know about poetry, geometry, cosmology, medicine, sound, etc. When one is trained in this system, one thinks in a completely different way about reality and the universe that we experience.

Many traditions talk about this mysterious, esoteric aspect of sound: the primordial OM, or what's called in Hinduism Indra's "net of jewels" (Indra is the god of thunder and lightning), or the concept of akasha, or in the Bible: the Word, the Logos, Music of the Spheres, the Big Bang. If we were to think of how sound could start the universe, and how could that sound be heard, I think it's a metaphor probably referring to the idea that the world as we know it exists because of sound or vibration. It's greatly misunderstood, this connection between sound and the way we experience reality, as though there is some form of manifestation coming out of sound, out of language, out of all the sounds that we hear. That probably explains

“Sound has served humanity probably more than any other tool. Some people might add dance to it because there's

transcendence also through dancing, but you need sound for dance to happen.”

New Day Herald 3534 New Day Herald msia.org @msiaorg New Day Herald 3534 New Day Herald msia.org @msiaorg

Page 35: The New Day Herald | May 2016

why sound has been used in all spiritual realms—religious, sacred, indigenous, shamanic. It's THE most powerful tool. Sound has served humanity probably more than any other tool. Some people might add dance to it because there's transcendence also through dancing, but you need sound for dance to happen.

NDH: To me, it's interesting that light can come solely externally. That is, you can have a form in the physical world that doesn't emanate light. But sound goes through all forms and can emanate from within all forms. So it can be more internal, and more powerful, because light can bounce off of objects, whereas with sound both the receiver and giver have to be vibrating. With light you can have a vibrating source, or giver, and a non-vibrating object, or receiver.

AT: Yeah I agree. And also sound can be experienced in two different ways. If a person is toning or vocalizing, they are able to experience the sound that they are generating through the auditory sense, but also through the tactile sense—through bone and tissue vibration, the movement in the body. That's something that we're not always aware of when we listen to music, or to any sound source, because we mostly experience it with our ears. But we’re unaware that the body is also experiencing it, but it is very subtle. And because the auditory aspect is more present, we think it's strictly auditory, but it's actually not. There is a very subtle felt perception in the body, and if one observes this in a meditative state, with any sound coming to the body, or from the instruments that we use in sound therapy, one can feel the body responding. And the lower the frequency is, the more it can be felt in the body. If we go below the threshold of hearing, which is 20 Hz, we get to sound that we can only experience in the body, and not with the ear.

“We’re unaware that the body is also experiencing

it, but it is very subtle. And because the auditory aspect

is more present, we think it's strictly auditory, but

it's actually not. There is a very subtle felt perception

in the body, and if one observes this in a meditative

state, with any sound coming to the body, or from the

instruments that we use in sound therapy, one can feel

the body responding.”

Page 36: The New Day Herald | May 2016

NDH: So the sound meditation that you do involves listening to external sounds. Does it also involve internal sound, and how would that relate to the external sound?

AT: I like to use instruments that produce harmonic overtones, or instruments that produce harmonic overtones in clearly audible levels—that would be a more correct way of saying it because really all instruments have overtones. I use gongs, Himalayan singing bowls, and overtone singing, among other things. Sound is a dimension—that's the way I perceive it. If we focus on the harmonic overtones and on the complexity of the overtones, we can merge into that dimension. That harmonic series, which includes all the overtones, is sometimes referred to as "the living God," or the "stairway to heaven" in the esoteric philosophies. It includes the basic note, and then all the auxiliary overtones that go along with it. We become one with it. And as we are meditating listening to sound, it helps the body to go through various changes. The brainwave cycles diminish, and the autonomic nervous system is being affected, including the Heart Rate Variability, which is how the heart communicates to the brain and how the person is feeling emotionally. The Vagus nerve is being affected. The neurochemistry is affected. I believe this is where the sound becomes an internal sound.

I interpret this in a unique way: When we listen to specifically designed sound, we can go into a transcendental state where we lose awareness of the self, or we become that which we're observing, and we no longer are aware of the observer. We become the sound that we're listening to. This is a very key point that happens a lot in deep

meditative states where one is using a mantra or sutra or focusing on the breath, but these states are very hard to attain without the sound. I've found sound to be very effective in achieving that state, through listening judiciously and attentively to these instruments as they're being explored. And while the meditator is informed about how to best make use of the sound and how to listen, the magic is always in how people listen. This is why I always tell people that they need to listen judiciously. I talk about the specifics of the overtones and demystify certain concepts and explain things, because if I'm playing the instruments and people aren't listening in a specific way, they're not getting the best of what the instruments are providing.

The listener is the most important part of the equation. There are things that the sound does, things that I do, and things that the individual can do as an active participant. This is where I like to focus on the listener, and that's why I inform them of various things that are essential to know more about sound, so that they get to this place where they are experiencing the inner sound, which is basically a transformation almost like an alchemical transformation where we become sound. And that's deeply meaningful. It's almost like going back to the source where there is no I, no observer, and we become it. But the strange thing is that as we go deeper into this, we get into a place where not even sound exits anymore. We become everything and nothing. This is what the Sufis call al-fana’, which is a state of complete ego dissolution, a state of non-duality where they merge with God within, beyond any of the fractals that we experience and that keep us trapped in maya, which is an infatuation with the material world.

“The listener is the most important part of the equation. There are things that the sound does, things that I do, and things that the individual can do as an active participant.”

NDH: It sounds similar to the MSIA technique of Spiritual Exercises where we do both chanting and listening. Chanting is like establishing a tone, like if you're creating an outer sound by playing the gong or other instruments; and then there's listening, and it's in the listening that you travel or merge.

AT: And we all have so much to learn about listening. There are many different layers of listening, where we go into our heart. It's the conditioned mind that keeps us trapped in this illusionary state. It's a combination of all the conditioning that we've gone through, all these thoughts that keep us trapped in what we think reality is. The exit is using sound as a tool to stop the discursive thinking, the monkey mind, to get to the divine within. When we are working with sound through toning, there is an ego involved because there is an action. I'm deciding to do this for a specific reason. But as we're having that experience of vocalizing or toning, we're also listening. So we have two things happening simultaneously, the act of using the positive side of the ego, a "good" ego, and also focusing our effort on the best that we can do to eventually lead to an experience. The experience is the most important part of the equation, because the experience can help things unfold within us and can give us an understanding beyond any number of words.

We become self-propelling entities to transcendence, toward something that's going to create a change. That change is on a vibratory level, and that will connect us to our heart,

because there is a fundamental essence within us that will lead us toward truth, toward good. But when we're not aware of that, when we're busy, when we're distracted, when we're stuck in suffering, we may manifest the opposite. And this is why it's very important to have a spiritual practice, a discipline.

NDH: In our IHOP class you've talked a lot about the differences between the tempered and non-tempered musical scales, and their relationship to other levels of consciousness and spiritual practices. Can you tell us about this?

AT: Equal temperament is the division of the octave into twelve equidistant steps, which are the notes that we use to form musical scales. In an octave that isn't equally tempered, these steps aren't equal, or equidistant. In other words, if the whole octave is divided into 1200 "cents," which are units of measure, each of the 12 steps would be 100 cents in an equal tempered octave. But in a non-equal tempered octave, these steps would not all be equal to 100 cents. In actuality, a "natural" scale—that is, notes as they occur in nature—follow this non-

equal temperament. All sounds in nature have a basic note, let's say a C note on a plucked string, and then overtones, like E and G which are subtler tones that are created when the string vibrates, and are in harmony with the base note. These harmonic overtones are used to form the notes of our musical scales—but as they occur in nature, they are not exactly equal to the 100-cent steps. Some intervals between the notes may be equal to 102 or 104, or 98 or 96 cents.

That was problematic on the level of tuning an instrument, such as a keyboard, in one tuning that allows you to play in all keys. A piano tuned correctly in the key of A, where A is the tonal center from which everything else harmonizes, might sound slightly "off" in the key of B, because when you start from B, the natural harmonic overtones will be in slightly different places—a few cents off either higher or lower. You might not hear this difference, but when you get all they way up to the key of G, the differences would be many cents, and it would sound way off-key. The solution was to just divide everything equally all along the keyboard, so that all the steps are just slightly off, but not enough

so that most people notice it. That's equal temperament.

That's where we lost the magic, because we intuitively sense that there's something slightly "off," and the music doesn't completely harmonize with the frequencies of nature, and the natural frequencies of our bodies. Now, this happened in the western world, but it didn't happen in all ancient harmonic systems that have been around for who knows how long.

Non-equal tempered scales impact consciousness in a dramatically different way. In the west, after the equal temperament was imposed, we lost the state of trance, the ecstasy or euphoria of transcendence, because sound was disempowered. Some people may not be aware of it and say the sound is just adjusted a little bit. But that makes a big difference because this true harmony that nature gave us, and that is part of us, is lost. Even a musician who is trained in the classical conservatory system will always intuitively play in non-equal tempered scales if they are playing an instrument that allows for that, such as fretless

“Different scales, especially those with microtones and based on natural harmonics, have a different ‘ethos’. . .”

instruments like violins and cellos, or when they're singing. When we sing we always gravitate towards this natural harmony, these true mathematical ratios that are part of a non-equal tempered octave.

NDH: Have there been any experiments done to test the different physiological effects of listening to this natural music vs. the equal-tempered music?

AT: Absolutely. There have been many experiments and many contemporary composers have experimented with that. They include Lou Harrison, Harry Parch, Terry Riley. Some of these composers studied Indian classical music or Turkish, Arabic and Persian classical music. Some of the Asian musical traditions have microtones, or more notes in between the tones that we are used to as the normal scale in the west. In Turkish music there are nine tones between C and D instead of two tones in the Western octave (C to C sharp, and C sharp to D). They created a system based on natural harmonics that are part of the blueprint of sound which is the harmonic overtone series that we were talking about as the source of the non-equal tempered scales. Now of course people back then didn't know anything about physics and acoustics and mathematics. But they felt that. In an intuitive way we manifest that which we need to expand our consciousness.

Different scales, especially those with microtones and based on natural harmonics, have a different "ethos," which would be the distinguishing character, personality or spirit that can evoke emotions within us in

a very specific way. That's what happens in the Indian raga system, and in central Asian and North African music, Middle Eastern music (and that's throughout the region, regardless of religion) and also in Byzantine liturgical chants. These are highly engineered harmonic systems that assist us to transcend and become part of sound in a unique way. These are actually mathematical ratios that evoke emotions within us. This is fascinating to me—that there is a different way to journey inwardly with these different scales and harmonics. Sound leads us to God within. All these scales, because they have more notes within an octave, or fewer, have different intervals between the notes. These are called microtones, which are notes in between what we see as the keys on a piano, can have even smaller intervals. What I always tell people is that focusing our awareness on the space between the notes, or the interval, is more important than focusing on the notes themselves, because it's the intervals that give a scale its distinguishing characteristics, its ethos. It's a shifting of focus.'

In these Middle Eastern and Indian cultures you don't have the separation that exists in the western world between performers and an audience of passive listeners. There's a certain etiquette of listening. The listeners have a stock of words and expressions, including hand gestures and head gestures, that they use to indicate how much they're being moved by the music, to indicate to the musician that "we're with you, we're feeling and sensing everything." This would encourage the musician to play more and to play better, because there's an attunement with someone who cares. The distinction between audience and performers dissipates little by little, until there is a oneness. This happens all the

time, and is the ultimate goal. And if this doesn't happen, the musicians may not have a good experience and may not give a good performance because there aren't judicious listeners.

NDH: It's interesting that in music we talk about the fundamental tone, and then the series of overtones that come out of that, which vibrate in harmony and are used in the individual notes of a scale. Many spiritual scriptures and lineages, especially sound current lineages like MSIA, talk about a fundamental tone, like the HU, as being the foundation of creation, originating in the highest levels of consciousness, and then the lower levels manifesting out of that, and we chant the tones of the different levels as we progress. It almost seems as if sound on the physical level has many of the same characteristics as the sound on the inner realms of consciousness. Is there a relationship between the two?

AT: This is deeply esoteric knowledge when we talk about the connection between the harmonic overtone series and the dimensions of consciousness. Basically we have a fundamental frequency which is the starting point, and we have finer frequencies that are called overtones that are above that fundamental frequency. They're involved in how we hear the fundamental frequency because they constitute the tone color or timbre. That's what makes a note on a ukelele sound different from the same note played on a violin. This overtone series is based on mathematics. The first overtone is always an octave higher than the fundamental, the second overtone is a fifth higher, then a fourth, and it goes on and on. It's an infinite series. It's based on the doubling of the frequency. So if the fundamental frequency is 200 Hz, the first overtone will be 400 Hz. The second will be 800 Hz, etc. There are

“As we become aware of the finer and finer overtones, it's almost like going through an alchemical transformation.”

also inharmonic overtones which are not based on doubling the frequency. As we move up to higher and higher overtones, they become closer to each other and weaker as we listen to them. A gong, for example, can emit a wide spectrum of these overtones, maybe 100 of them. The overtones that are most clearly audible are the lower ones because they have the greatest amplitude. As the mind quiets and as we become more fully aware of all of these overtones, we are able to perceive the weaker overtones. As we can listen in a more fine-tuned way, there is more presence in our awareness, and we let go of the lower levels of thinking, the monkey-mind that creates our reality. This is why spiritual practice is important, so we can disconnect from the consensual reality—what our minds agree is "real"—and go into transcendental reality. That can reveal the mind for us, that can teach us, and that can connect us to the God and the teacher within. That's almost like a different realm, and sound is used to get to that realm.

So the mind quiets down when we are having an experience with finer and higher overtones. As we go higher, we're more able to notice the very high and subtle overtones that are non-existent to the untrained ear, and that are masked by the louder, lower overtones. As we become aware of the finer and finer overtones, it's almost like going through an alchemical transformation. The real alchemy isn't about the literal changing of heavy metals into gold, but it's about using spiritual practice to sculpt the self, to fine-tune the human awareness and consciousness so that it becomes finer and more subtle. That is inherent to transcendence and spirituality, to becoming more present, aware, resonant, and therefore compassionate, empathetic, loving and kind. We become aware of what's always been here, but we weren't aware of it— a world within a world—and we go beyond the mundane and we reach the realms of the higher spirits and the higher self.

Healing Through Musicby Liz Bagish

where sound therapist Alexandre Tannous shared his way of healing through music, using a variety of brass bowls and a giant gong. As I sat and listened I became aware of the way I have healed myself through sound.

I started meditating using the method of chanting my sacred in-ner tones, and after this I began to play music and do my art in a way I had never known I was capable of. When I started to meditate I would unconsciously tap into my own creative energy, which would lead me to creating in a style that my consciousness and heart resonated to with little outside influence. I picked up my cello after not play-ing it for years and started singing and playing. The feedback I would get from others was that my music sounded ancient—as though it was from other cultures or regions of

the world—but I wasn’t sure why or how, because I was just playing what felt was joyful within me. I use my music as a way to heal from my own challenges and painful past experiences, and to find the bless-ing in it.

In class what I learned was that our western culture wasn’t as developed in seeing music as a way of healing oneself or experiencing and doing music as a joyful expression of love and transcendence or connection with God as much as some other more developed cultures. Alexan-dre, who has traveled the world as an ethnomusicologist, spoke of these other cultures.

He also spoke of epigenetics. I learned it was how people can use sound to tap into their their genes and ancestry, and even past lives, unconsciously through their music or art to deeply heal in ways they couldn’t reach before. I realized I was doing this innately through my music and didn’t know it. All I had to do was chant my tone. It’s as though a higher part of me knew and was doing the work through me, through my creative energy, to heal myself through the beauty of sound.

All I had to do was use meditation through the sound current to bring me to the ways I knew in myself to heal. It was great to have physical confirmation of my experience and put words on it.

I recently took an IHOP class

“When you are attuned to the Sound Current, all you have to do is ride the Sound and you will discover its Source, which is God. The Mystical Traveler is an agent for this Current of Sound as it issues forth from the Supreme God in the pure realms of Light.” - John-Roger, DSS

Come enjoy riding the Sound Current of God with us at this year’s Conference of the Sound Current. You are invited to take a deeper dive into the core MSIA teaching: the Sound Current; part of that force flow that travels straight from the God source and back.

There will be two days of coming together into the heart of God and attuning to that vibration where we are all One. It's Good To Have a Traveler in the Family

I met John-Roger when I was 11 years old in Santiago, Chile my home country. What impressed me the most about him was his happiness. He always seemed to be smiling at a joke only he could hear. Everyone and everything around him had a glow of celebration.

Every time the Staff came to visit, life felt profoundly special during those glorious days. It was an everlasting Christmas morning that had no other present than being around J-R and his contagious joy.

A little over a month ago our children—twins boy, and girl—had the opportunity to meet John Morton. I saw in their faces the same joy and anticipation that something really special was about to happen. They couldn’t wait to get out of the car as if they were about to unwrap the most wonderful present. Sharing that preciousness with my hus-band Jeff was the icing on the cake.

It's Good To Have a Traveler in the Family

I’ve heard J-R say many times that spiritu-ality is the most natural thing in the world. I’ve never seen it to be so true as it is with children. Growing up with J-R’s teachings set a definite course for my life that I see now directly influenced the lives of my children. Connecting those dots has been such a testimony to God’s Grace operating non-stop in our lives, and how all we have to do is choose back time and time again. The impact of choices has never been so evident to me as it is now.

As I watched John and the kids interact I couldn’t help to think of my mom and the bold choices she made at a time and a place that wasn’t particularly open to change or enlightenment.

It was the early 80’s and she was a full time working woman with a graduate degree in a mostly male-dominated environment. She had separated from my dad (divorce didn’t exist back then) in a predominantly Catholic country ruled by an iron fist dictatorship that fueled an atmosphere of constant repression and fear.

She met J-R at a seminar at a Hotel in downtown Santiago. She had been looking for a spiritual path after her marriage had ended and the Catholic Church had turned its back on her. A friend from work invited her to see J-R. They agreed to meet at the location for the event but her friend never showed up. My mom didn’t know J-R’s name or the title of the seminar he was facilitating. She could have gone home

Page 60: The New Day Herald | May 2016

but instead decided to go looking for this “gringo” in the hotel’s directory. Out of all the other talks and events taking place that evening she told herself she would knew where to go. And she did.

She sat in the far back at the end of the last row. She knew immediately J-R was the teacher she had been waiting for. She raised her hand, convinced J-R would never see her, especially because he had just turned to face the opposite side of the room. In flash J-R swiveled his chair back. “You,” he told her. She thought he was pointing to someone else but soon realized he had seen her somehow, even though he wasn’t looking. It was a pivotal moment and a gift of tremendous healing of wounds from her past. In just a flash she knew without a doubt that J-R loved her unconditionally and that she felt the same way about him.

I always loved hearing this story from her because of the glow on her face every time she would recount how J-R saw her. In many ways I think all of us, in our own special ways, have experienced that moment of being seen for who we truly are in our hearts, and perhaps more purposelessly, when we couldn’t see it for ourselves.

Decades later while I was working as a Staff member at PTS here in the U.S., I received a note from J-R via email at the end of a routine registration report I had just sent him. He was visiting Chile with the Staff and wrote, “I saw your mother tonight at the Seminar I was facilitating. She was as lovely as ever.” I felt as if I was thrown into a blender of perplexity, joy and elation while filled with an inexplicable sense of familiarity and intimacy—with J-R, as he had always been, at the center of it all.

That single connection, in that hotel in downtown Santiago in the early 80’s, became an ever-expanding spiral of unconditional loving with its own gravitational force. My decision to move to the States was nothing else but the answer to a call coming from deep within my heart. It was so deep at times that my mind would run in circles unable to make sense of all the obstacles and challenges in the way of making such a move a successful venture. But the heart sees beyond what this world can explain.

When I found out I was pregnant with twins I had the blessing of seeing J-R within a few days of receiving the news. Before I could say anything he told me “you’re pregnant.” He gave me a big hug and whispered in my ear “and you’re having twins.” We laughed together as I kept saying, “I know!” There it was again—that magical moment of total familiarity, as if we lived in the same house and had been having breakfast with each other that morning.

The twins were born extremely early. My due date was August 15 and they came on May 3, 2009. It was a time when stories like “Footprints On The Sand” truly become flesh and blood. Friends, family, ministers, initiates, J-R, John Morton and HeartReach (an organization that responds with Light and assistance to members of the MSIA spiritual family who are undergoing life-challenging or medical crises) led by the amazing Patti Rayner, held us day in and day out in a mantle of prayers and care.

We were cared for in ways we never imagined possible. Food was delivered to us almost on a daily basis at the hospital; gifts, cards and so many seeds came our way. My

dad, who was visiting for a couple of weeks, was deeply moved by all the kindness around us. He was never a fan of MSIA or J-R but that experience completely changed his perspective. He had never seen so much generosity from such large group of people in such a consistent way. “These are really good people!” he said so many times during his trip. And that didn’t include the infinite invisible support, love and Light coming our way from so many other ministers and initiates around the world.

My husband Jeff and I witnessed miracle after miracle almost on a daily basis during our stay at the hospital. There were close calls and insurmountable challenges we overcame through pure Grace. Leaving the babies at night was never easy. Overnights were not allowed for parents. My personal prayer was that the Traveler would cradle them through the night and that a battalion of angels would guard their sleep in our place. The thought of children feeling alone or abandoned was particularly heart-wrenching for us as new parents.

On the last day of our stay, after 19 weeks in the ICU, the doctor on call went over their chart with a perplexed face trying to find something wrong that would require a follow up visit. “Well there’s not much here. They’re fine,” she said with certain disbelief before signing off their discharge papers.

Fast forward seven years. We’re driving after school pick-up and my daughter spontaneously says how much she misses J-R and not being able to speak with him physically. Our son chimes in with the same concern which leads into a conversation about connecting with the living Traveler: John Morton.

Page 62: The New Day Herald | May 2016

The golden opportunity didn’t take long to show up. I was participating in the PTS Class “Travelers Through the Ages” and John decided to come visit the class. Total and pure wonder. Our daughter had lots of questions for John about some nightmares she was having, using and working with the Light, etc. My son had just one thing to say: I love you.

The day came and the excitement of it all was incredible. Not only were they going to meet John but they were also going to meet “mommy’s class-mates.” Both children decided they wanted John to bless something special for them so they brought their most precious possessions at the time. Our daughter wore her Cinderella necklace and our son brought “Monkey” (his bedtime stuffed animal).

Walking into the home of Rama Fox (one of the facilitators along with Inez Hayes) that evening was like coming home for Thanksgiving. The children felt so welcomed and comfortable, as if they had known everyone for a lifetime. The place had the glow of celebration, and Spirit filled the air completely.

John’s sweetness and loving with both children was especially touching and heart-melting. He shared such precious and personal messages with each child. Every word was so on point and per-fect for their own unique selves. I was particularly moved when John pointed our son’s heart and said to him something along the lines of “there’s a

special place where I live in there. And you can talk to me anytime you want. I’m always there.”

Memories of their nights at the hospital briefly flashed through my mind as I realized my prayers had been answered all along. The depth of the gratitude that filled my heart was infinite. God’s love for us knows no limits and is ever present. I could almost see J-R winking at us while smiling at that joke he can only hear.

Our son didn’t let anyone touch “Monkey” for a few days, and while getting ready for school the next day I overhead our daughter telling my husband Jeff that John was now her “very, very, very best, super best friend ever.”

The teachings have become our family values and daily routines: calling in the Light, sending the Light, holding the Light for each other, chant-ing the Ani-Hu before bed and relating to God as an active participant in our daily lives. These practices will go on as our children share them with their children, and their children with their children, spreading like an ever-growing mantle of blessings and spiritual awakening for genera-tions to come.

Having a Mystical Traveler in the Family is the gift of an unconditional friend that’s always there to dry the tears and tell the best jokes with the best laughter after the punch line. The Traveler is now my co-parent, particularly when I have nothing left in my “parenting toolbox.” What do I say now? How do I handle this one? The Traveler is there like a best friend on a spiritual speed dial.

Above everything else the Traveler carries the gift of belonging. No matter where we are and what year it is, the Traveler comes in and we are home, warm and safe.

With deep gratitude,

Ana Maria McCombs & the rest of the gang

How I Write with Spirit

by John HrubyThe author of Lighty, the Light Light shares how he co-creates the MSIA Christmas Eve skits with Spirit and crossed-fingers.

That’s my short writing prayer. You can see my full writing prayer inserted in this article, but I’ve learned that when it’s time to write it’s time to write. Save the long prayers for prayer time. I said this short prayer just moments ago when I found myself looking at the fantastic, vibrant, white screen of my Mac laptop. The glowing, blank, electronic page was waiting

for me with anticipation. I believe the naked canvas is not good or bad. It’s the state of the writer that determines how he/she views the blank page (paper or computer).

The first thing I usually do is turn down the brightness on my com-puter screen. Today, right now, it’s 6:06 a.m., and I just woke up. The white screen is pretty bright and

“Dear God, help me to write something useful and funny.”

Awesome Success Tip #1: Set Yourself Up for Success. The Night Before WritingIt’s the night before writing and all through the house,I prepare my computer with keyboard and mouse.Cayden my eight year old is sleeping in bed,Connor my teen says he’s wide-awake in his head. The leftovers are wrapped and are in the frig keeping cool,And the kids’ snacks are all packed and ready for school.Sometimes the house is tidied and the laundry is folded (or not),Schedules are coordinated: sports, karate, school play, sleepovers, it’s a lot.I open my laptop in the midst of this perfect storm,I pull out a sweater and my slippers so I’ll be warm.Because when God wakes me before the sun rises,I need to sit quickly so I’ll catch the creative surprises.I’ve learned it’s best to start and not to think,It’s best to sit and start typing, to establish the link.

Here’s how I set myself up for success: My goal is to arrange everything so that when I wake at 5 or 6 a.m., I can literally turn on two lights, slip on my slippers, put on a robe, press the spacebar (waking up my computer) and start typing. Starting writing HAS to be as easy as picking up the remote control and

turning on the TV. I have found it very helpful to remove as much friction as possible.

Sometimes, at night, I look and feel like a zombie as I pull out my laptop and warm clothes. The good news is, the creative mind is not really need-ed for this first step. I can be exhausted—toast—and still set myself up for success. In the A.M. I will be refreshed and this extra ten minutes of zombie setup will pay off. Before going to bed, I pull out my laptop, plug it in, open it to the place of the story I’m working and put out my robe and slip-pers (if it’s going to be cold in the morning).

If all of this is not set in place, I have found myself staying in my warm bed in the morning.

Awesome Success Tip #2: Start Before You’re Ready. The above poem is a good example of the joy and surprises I experience when I write. I had no inten-tion of writing a poem this morning. But when I wrote, “The Night before writing … ” I said to myself, “Oh geez, I’m going to write a cheesy poem based on that famous Christmas Eve poem. I hope it’s entertaining.”

I actually thought that because I have found that when creating I have no idea if what I write will make it from the first draft to the second. Ideally, it will. Sure, it’s a good idea for me to have an inten-tion in mind, so that I set the rudder of my creative boat in the direction I plan to go. But I've found it’s best to be open to the adventure of creativity. When I start I never know if I’m going to co-create a bald eagle or platypus—both cool in their own right, but very different from each other.

I made a promise to God a while back. The conver-sation went something like this:

God. I’ve been playing around with this intuition thing. I’ve been listening and hearing you for some time. In many cases I’ve followed my intuition and things have worked out swell. I have also run tests and NOT followed

my eyes are still adjusting. I like to get up early and write before the rest of the family wakes. I’m a morning person and it’s quiet in the morning.

I’ve come to view the blank page as a pos-sibility. I say, “It will be interesting to see what happens today.” I try to say this with adventure and whimsy. Sometimes I say it with crossed fingers. To be honest, I do view writing this way, but I try not to think even this when I start. My intention is to NOT think at all. When it comes to creating, I have found the best practice is to start. That is why setting myself up for success the night before I write is so important.

Awesome Success Tip #3: Be Open to Inspiration a.k.a. Be OK with Spirit Saving Your Creative Butt.I’ll share two real life examples of ideas just “popping into my head” and how “going with the ideas” and co-creating Spirit assisted me with my writing. The first example is with writing the first Lighty the Light Light Christ-mas Eve skit. The second involves writing my first novel, Space Spiders on Prom Day. Yes, you read that correctly. Not the usual stuff MSIA ministers write. And, I know what you’re also thinking: Finally, someone is writ-ing an action adventure, sci-fi, over-the-top, romance, thriller about Prom. (Thank God, literally.) But first I feel called to share this.

My writing mantra is “To Entertain and Enlighten.”I believe people want to be enlightened while they are being entertained. Some people don’t know this and I’ve found it’s often a good idea not to mention it to them. Why do I think this? People went to see Star Wars The New Hope IV – the first Star Wars movie that opened in theaters in 1977) for Darth Vader, Chewbacca, light sabers, R2-D2, hyper-speed, and Leia’s super cool hair-do. I was ten and I saw this “first” Star Wars movie in the theaters about seven times. The Stormtroopers, romance, and droids grabbed my attention just as they did with so much of America. But there was some-thing more that intrigued my young Jedi mind. I was introduced to the Force. This was the first time I considered spirituality with what many consider a Buddhist slant. I learned the Force is in everything and I’m connected to everything. Sure, my dogmatic hit-me-with-a-ruler religion of my upbring-ing told me God was in everything, but I never felt like they meant it. I always felt my religious instructors really felt that God was

with US, you know, the “true” believers, and not so much with the heathens that didn’t do exactly like us. Obiwan didn’t play this judg-mental game. The Force was in everything and he meant it. I consider old Ben Kenobi my first wise teacher and mentor. A few years later, Yoda was my second.

Sure, I could use everything I learned from “my religious God” to help me to pay atten-tion in school, walk their version of the straight and narrow path, and experience a lot of guilt and shame along the way (boring and not so healthy). Or I could use the Force to wheel my lightsaber, use the Jedi mind trick on the weak-minded, and blast my X-Wing fighter at just right the moment to blow up the Death Star (exciting and empowering). This was the first time I realized God could be fun AND practi-cal. I could be a co-creator with God. Life could be an adventure and I could be guided by the Force to do really cool things.

As I grew older I also consciously realized sci-ence fiction could actually reveal more wis-dom and truth than actual people who were instructing me and supposedly teaching me the Truth.

Awesome Success Tip #4: Entertain first (because God is fun) and then enlighten (just enough).Lighty, the Light LightIn 2009, I felt called to be in charge of the kids’ room during the L.A. minister meetings. MSIA calls the kids morning program, H.U.G.S. which stands for Helping Us Grow Spiritually.

Julie Lurie was heading up the kids room at that time. Her kids had grown and she was being called to participate with NOW Produc-tions in the other room streaming the Min-isters Meetings. My kids were then four and nine, and while I was a little concerned about

leading a pack of wonderful (and perhaps wild) kids I felt called to say yes. My lovely wife Amy said she’d help too and for this I am forever grateful.

When I was asked to do something with the kids for Christmas Eve I was horrified. I’ve been told I don’t sing well. Also, my experience of getting my kids to practice anything was prov-ing less promising than my singing voice.

So I did what most people do. I relied on God and money. I’ve been writing since I was a pre-teen so I decided to write a story I could read. This would take the pressure off the kids. Cayden and Lucinda were only four. They were cute as all get-out but did not have a lot of on camera experience yet. I also offered to pay Connor and Cayden. I didn’t need to pay the others so I never offered. I guess I was devel-oping producer skills too.)

As a writer, I knew I needed to make the Light a specific character and give it a personality so the kids could better understand and relate to it. I didn’t want to talk about the Light in an all-encompassing way. J-R and John Morton do that far better than I. What I needed for the story was Lighty the Light Light. Something fun to hear and say (to help bring in the joy of Christmas Eve) and something the H.U.G.S. kids (and the kid in everyone of us) would enjoy.

There’s a point in the first Lighty the Light Light story where the kids in the story fight over Lighty the Light Light. I knew that wasn’t good. Fighting in a Christmas story based on the idea of scarcity is probably not at the core of MSIA’s teachings nor a part of the original Christmas story. But I was stuck. Both kids in the story wanted to have Lighty the Light Light and there was only one. Fortunately for me, I had been creative enough in my life that I wasn’t worried. In fact, I’ve learned getting stuck just means I’ve used up all of me and now it’s time for me to be surprised. It’s time for some more from somewhere else to show up. I probably said something like this: “I wonder how this is going to work out?” Which brings me to…

that little voice to see what will happen, and things didn’t work out so well. After all these adventures (and more than a few judgments and much com-passionate self-forgivenesses), I can honestly say that I’ve gotten to a point in my life where I trust my intuition, gut, heart, soul, Spirit, You and fol-low it (most of the time). So God, I’m going to do this writing thing with you now. When an idea comes to me, I’m going to go with it. I’m not going to think. If I’m writing a story and a character is wearing a scarf and I see it as a red scarf, I’m going to make it red. I’m not going to think, I’m just going to do it and we’ll see what happens.Thank you, God. I anticipate good times and inter-esting adventures with you. And, on a side note, if you could help out the Cleveland Browns next year, that would be really great.

Awesome Success Tip #5:

Saying “I wonder…” opens me up to receiving input from Spirit.Whenever I’m ready for inspiration or an idea that could assist me, I say, “I wonder …”

It’s a great way of opening me up to Spirit, to inspiration, to receiving some-thing new.

• I wonder what would make this scene more exciting?

• I wonder what would make the second act of my story work better?

• I wonder how this Space Spider is going to sneak up on Chevy and Sweetie?

And this is what happened when I was co-creating the first Lighty story with Spirit. The idea I needed came to me. The kids in the story realized there isn’t just one Lighty. They realized the more they used and sent the Light, the more there is. The kids sent Lighty to many different people, even Grouchy Edna who gave them socks as Christmas gifts.

When I started writing the first Lighty story I didn’t know how it was going to end. I didn’t even know the middle. I just started writing and trusting that the story “would all come to me when I needed it.” Fortunately for me I had been writing for a while so I learned I could trust God, Spirit, the Creative Process, whatever you like to call it.

One more point that I’d like to focus on here. I have found this to be very useful when I’m coaching my writing clients:

I’ve discovered that it’s not useful for me to say, “I don’t know what to do.” My word is my law in my world. Declaring this is not useful in being creative. That’s why I recommend writers (and all artists) ask themselves instead, “I wonder what I would like to read if I was reading the book I’m writing? I wonder what I would like to see if I was watching the movie I’m writing?

Example #2Here’s a specific example of how I worked with God when I wrote Space Spiders on Prom Day.

The main heroes of this story are Chevy and Sweetie. They are high school se-niors and they have been sweethearts for some time now. However, Sweetie is the Prom Committee leader and Chevy thinks Prom is a waste of money. (No-tice how I created conflict right away to make the story more interesting. This is not Spirit-led. This is Writing 101.)

Awesome Success Tip #6: Know your craft. Practice. Do your Research.I believe one of the responsibilities of an artist is to give God something to work with. What do I mean by that? Mozart sup-posedly heard a song inside his head and then he sat down and played the song on the piano. If I heard a song inside my head I could not sit down and play it. I don’t know what a D minor or a C sharp sounds like nor do I want to take the time to find out.

I have written. I have read books about writing. I have taken classes. I have paid professionals for feedback. I have belonged to writing groups. I believe every writer and artist has a responsibility of learning their craft, so when inspiration comes the artist can move with ease and grace, incorporat-ing the “download” or “intuitive hit” into the physical form.

Doing research gives me material to create my story. When I started writing Space Spi-ders on Prom Day I decided to place Chevy, Sweetie, and their friends in Pennsylvania. Why? After doing a little research, I found out there are 500,000 hunters in the state of Michigan but there are 900,000 hunters in Pennsylvania (PA). So I chose PA. I de-cided the story would be more realistic for high school seniors to successfully shoot machine guns if they were raised shooting rifles and shotguns. Because when you’re writing a story about giant sixteen foot spiders from space you want your story to be as realistic as possible. ;)

Here is the specific Spirit example I feel called to share:

One day when I was writing Space Spi-ders on Prom Day, I had an idea that was either brilliant or lousy, a bald eagle or platypus—I didn’t know at the time. If the idea worked out well (and it did), I would later call it “inspired.” If it didn’t make it to the next draft then it was a thought, a risk, an idea that didn’t pan out. One of Chevy’s best friend is SNAFU, and they are both members of the high school hunting club. Here is the line:

There is only one female in the hunting club, and she’ll karate chop you in your head if you so much as bump into her.I wrote down the line as soon as I thought it because that is my agreement with God.

When I wrote this line I had no idea who this young woman was or how she might fit into the story. It came to me, and I wrote it down. No thinking. I then contin-ued writing the story. I knew she might be interesting because she is the only female in the male dominated hunting club. I also knew she would probably be interesting because she knew karate and possessed some sort of bad attitude. But I didn’t know her name, backstory, character arc, or what she might accomplish.

There is only one female in the hunting club, and she’ll karate chop you in your head if you so much as bump into her.

I wrote down the line as soon as I thought it be-cause that is my agreement with God.

When I wrote this line I had no idea who this young woman was or how she might fit into the story. It came to me, and I wrote it down. No think-ing. I then continued writing the story. I knew she might be interesting because she is the only female in the male dominated hunting club. I also knew she would probably be interesting because she knew karate and possessed some sort of bad attitude. But I didn’t know her name, backstory, character arc, or what she might accomplish.

I have learned that thinking is really good, but not when I’m in the middle of creating. Action is very useful when I’m creating—specifically, typing. Thinking is very useful when pondering and/or rewriting, but not necessarily when I’m actually typing.

So flash forward about a month and 150 pages later and I arrive at another exciting part of the story. I’m going to be vague here because I’d rather not write “spoiler alert” when discussing my own story. So I get to the part of the story when some of the characters are having a chal-lenge with the arachnids from space. They are down to their last grenade. It doesn’t look good. Then, others show up and I realize as I write this that one of these others is the “female in the hunting club” and then it came to me, she is the ex-girl of so-and-so and she’s still upset with him. Do you see how wonderful this is? In the middle of the apocalypse, we have teenage dating angst. Fantastic! And, what is really fun for me was that this was an inspired idea from somewhere other than myself. What a fun surprise.

Awesome Success Tip #8:

Being in the FLOW with Spirit means Fun Loving Oneness Writing.Inside of me I have a joy meter. If I’m having fun and laughing and experiencing joy then I consider I’m on the right track with allowing my god-ness to flow.

FLOW = Fun. Loving. Oneness. Writing.

I believe writer’s block comes from judging myself or my writing, as well as trying to figure out what I’m going to write before I start.

To keep flowing, I’ve come to realize it’s important for me to have fun, to be loving toward myself and others, to trust that I’m connected and one with everything, and to start writing the next sentence even if I’m not aware of how’s it going to end.

Awesome Success Tip #9:

There is no such thing as a mistake. It’s called a first draft.I use this one even when I’m writing an email. I have found it is really useful to say to myself, “This is just the first draft. I’m getting ideas down. I’m having fun. I’m just going to wing it.” Then I say, “I’m going to write the book I’d like to read. I’m going to write the movie I’d like to see. I’m going to rewrite this so there is no pressure. This doesn’t have to be perfect.”

So these are some of the ways I create with Spirit. I often feel like I write something better than me. If I surprise myself and make myself laugh out loud or cry and I didn’t see it coming – then where did that writing come from? I mean, how can I surprise myself? I find it very interesting.

Lots of Loving and Light,

John Hruby

Awesome Success Tip #7:

Remember God is the constant. The writer is the variable.I often believe God writes through me. I was about three years into Space Spiders on Prom Day when I suddenly felt like I un-derstood and was actually doing what my ministerial blessing talked about. One of the lines of my ministerial blessing is some-thing like, “you will be doing the work and you won’t be doing the work.” For years I’d say to myself, “What does that mean?” Then, one morning when I was writing Space Spiders, I felt it. I was doing the work – I was writing – and I wasn’t doing the work – it was flowing through me.

I have come to realize that when God cre-ates through me, God is the constant. I am the variable. God through me is going to be very different than God through you. And, thank goodness. We don’t need two people on the planet creating the same art or writ-ing the same stories in the same way. That would be boring and redundant.

So for me, it is really important to embrace my uniqueness. It is important for me to own it. It is important for me to celebrate it. Dylan is Dylan. Bruce Springsteen is the Boss. And Lady Ga Ga is forever changing. Catcher in the Rye is very different than Fifty Shades of Gray. Let’s celebrate that.

Awesome Success Tip #6: Know your craft. Practice. Do your Research.I believe one of the responsibilities of an artist is to give God something to work with. What do I mean by that? Mozart supposedly heard a song inside his head and then he sat down and played the song on the piano. If I heard a song inside my head I could not sit down and play it. I don’t know what a D minor or a C sharp sounds like nor do I want to take the time to find out.

I have written. I have read books about writing. I have taken classes. I have paid professionals for feedback. I have belonged to writing groups. I believe every writer and artist has a responsibility of learning their craft, so when inspiration comes the artist can move with ease and grace, incorporating the “download” or “intuitive hit” into the physical form.

Doing research gives me material to create my story. When I started writing Space Spiders on Prom Day I decided to place Chevy, Sweetie, and their friends in Pennsylvania. Why? After doing a little research, I found out there are 500,000 hunters in the state of Michigan but there are 900,000 hunters in Pennsylvania (PA). So I chose PA. I decided the story would be more realistic for high school seniors to successfully shoot machine guns if they were raised shooting rifles and shot-guns. Because when you’re writing a story about giant sixteen foot spiders from space you want your story to be as realistic as possible. ;)

Here is the specific Spirit example I feel called to share:One day when I was writing Space Spiders on Prom Day, I had an idea that was either brilliant or lousy, a bald eagle or platypus—I didn’t know at the time. If the idea worked out well (and it did), I would later call it “inspired.” If it didn’t make it to the next draft then it was a thought, a risk, an idea that didn’t pan out. One of Chevy’s best friend is SNAFU, and they are both members of the high school hunting club. Here is the line:

P.S. Christmas Eve 2016: The H.U.G.S. kids and I have been asked to do another Lighty the Light Light story and we have said yes!

God, I focus my attention on You with awe and appreciation.

Words. They are my gift. I know this and I am happy. I love words. I love using them to create ideas and thoughts with you. I love entertaining myself and others with words that are spoken and written down.

I know my soul’s purpose involves the use of stories and words. I am happy to ex-plore how I can use my gift in service to You and others. I ask that you help me real-ize how powerful the spoken and written word can be. Let me remember that words are the second stage of creation. First thought, second the word, and third action.

Help me to remember that it is the place in which I write and the level of Oneness that I am aware of at the time of speaking and writing that determines how my words are used. Help me to remember that my intention and the focus I hold also deter-mines my words’ ability to heal and lovingly embrace others. And lastly, help me to remember that it is ultimately the other person reading and or listening to me that determines how they are going to interrupt my thoughts and words. I am responsible for only what I create, not for how it is interpreted.

God, I know words are powerful. Let me appreciate and use them with a conscious sense of mission as I joyfully transform thoughts and convey ideas into entertaining and enlightening ways to heal myself, others, and the world. I ask for your guidance and am open to your guidance as I continue to write and speak.

Thank you for this gift. Thank you for this adventure. Thank you for talking to me. I’m glad I’m listening.

Move your Awareness into your Soul ...

Check out MSIA’s event offerings

“Moving your inner awareness into your Soul is easy, but it’s just as easy to lose that awareness. You can fall out of awareness because the world doesn’t

seem to support spiritual awakening. Spirit lets you in easily, but It has to give way to the materiality of the

world. The material world has a billion distractions, so it’s necessary to watch where you place your focus and

your motivation for creating what you want. If you want to know God, keep your eyes on God.”

USMTHE UNIVERSITY OF SANTA MONICA was founded in 1976 by John-Roger and is a private graduate school offering Master’s degrees in Spiritual Psychology and Spiritual Psychology with an Emphasis in Consciousness, Health, and Healing.Known as the Worldwide Center for the Study and Practice of Spiritual Psychology, USM’s mission is communicating the principles and practices of Spiritual Psychology worldwide through the process of Soul-Centered education.

Soul-Centered education recognizes spiritual reality and begins with the assertion that rather than human beings who have a soul, we are more accurately described as souls having a human experience. This assertion evokes a radical paradigm shift, which results in a psychological and educational process whose goal is to bring forth the beauty, wisdom, and compassion inherent in every human being.

This experiential educational paradigm evokes in students their own answers to the three essential questions:

Who am I? Why am I here and what is my purpose? How can I make a meaningful contribution in the world?

The only requirement is that the ministry is active and done regularly.

MSIA ministers may perform services, like marriages, that clergy of other denominations are authorized to do as long as they comply with the laws of the locality in which they serve.

People who have received initiation into the Sound Current through the Traveler may request an Application for Ordination packet from:

InitiationStudents in MSIA have an opportunity to be initiated through the Mystical Traveler Consciousness into the Sound Current, the audible stream of energy that comes from the heart of God.

The levels of initiation in MSIA correspond to levels of consciousness both within and outside each person: astral (relating to the imagination), causal (relating to the emotions), mental (relating to the mind), etheric (paralleling the unconscious), and Soul (relating to who we truly are). There are also initiations above the Soul level.

The astral initiation happens in the “night travel” (dream state) after a person has in some way come in contact with the Mystical Traveler; it is not anchored physically at that time, and the person may do no more with it in their lifetime.

The next initiation is the causal, which can generally take place (be anchored) after two years of study with the Soul Awareness Discourses. (The astral initiation is anchored at the same time as the causal initiation.) Successive initiations are mental, etheric, and Soul.

If you are just starting the Soul Awareness Discourses, Discourse #1 explains initiation into the Sound Current. You may choose to study the Discourses with the intention of being initiated or simply read them as information. This is up to you.

If you do choose to study toward initiation, you need to write a letter as soon as you have decided and then email (or mail) it to the Traveler, saying that you are doing this. If you write this letter, the Traveler works with you more closely, and you may notice a greater spiritual awareness in your consciousness as this inner work goes on.

After two years of study with the Discourses and if you have written and sent your intention letter to the Traveler, you can apply for causal initiation, generally when you have completed Discourse 24. The Traveler will look into your request, and you may be offered the oppor-tunity for initiation.

For astral/causal, mental, etheric, and Soul initiations, the person meets with an initiator and is given an initiation “tone” (the name of God for each realm that applies to the tone), which the initiate chants inwardly during spiritual exercises. These initiation tones are charged with spiritual energy by the Traveler Consciousness for each person individually, and the Traveler assists the student in clearing enough karma on one level to be initiated into the next level. For the levels of initiation above the Soul level, no initiation tone is given physically.
