The new Golf R

Volkswagen R GmbH

When every hundredth of a second counts, everything has to be right. With the new Golf R, Volkswagen R GmbH has created the right conditions for that and is bringing motorsport onto the road. As soon as you start the car the engine demonstrates its potential with a powerful sound. Just a small foretaste of what is to come, because 221 kW (300 hp)1) make the new Golf R more powerful than any of its predecessors, accelerating it to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds2). Under those cir-cumstances even time has to give in.

The new Golf R – 03

THE BATTLE AGAINST TIME IS UNFAIR. FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF TIME.

1 ) Fuel consumption in l/100 km: between 9.4 and 8.8 (urban)/5.9 (extra-urban)/between 7.1 and 6.9 (combined), CO2 emissions in g/km: between 165 and 159 (combined), efficiency class: D.

2) With 6-speed DSG dual-clutch direct-shift gearbox.

4MOTION permanent four-wheel drive delivers the power of the new Golf R to the road in a controlled manner.Optimised traction, improved acceleration and even greater safety are the result.

SO MUCH POWER, IT NEEDS FOUR WHEELS TO HANDLE IT.

Your Volkswagen dealer will be happy to advise you.

TAKE YOUR TIME LOOKING AT IT. YOU’LL EASILY MAKE UP FOR IT LATER.

The new Golf R – Equipment – 09

It’s no disgrace to arrive at the finish behind it. As some compensation you’ll have a chance to see the characteristic rear end with its tinted LED rear lights and the “R” logo. The rear spoiler provides extra downforce and optimises roadholding. The R-specific diffuser and the twin tailpipes show unmistakably where the new Golf R comes from: from the racetrack. | S

LEDs in striking double-U shape give the bi-xenon headlights a purposeful look. Daytime running lights and dynamic cornering lights are integrated into them. The large air intakes in the bumper, the high-gloss black radiator grille and the 18-inch “Cadiz” alloy wheels with wide 225 tyres – also optionally available in the 19-inch version shown here – leave no room for doubt about the intentions ofthe Golf R. This one doesn’t only want to play. | S

As soon as you get in the proximity to motorsport becomes tangible. In top sports seats in optional black “Vienna” leather you will immediately feel ready for the first lap of the track. And you will quickly notice that racetrack atmosphere and comfort do not have to be mutually exclusive. The “Carbon Touch” inlays on the dashboard and the door trim panels, along with the stainless steel door sill trim strips, make their mark on the interior and really cast their spell when the lighting in R-typical blue is switched on. | S

With the optional 19-inch “Pretoria” alloy wheels and the black brake callipers including “R” logo, the new Golf R generates respect even while stationary. The striking flared sills define the lateral lines, visually empha-sising its forward thrust. Details such as the “R” logo on the front side panels or the exterior mirror housings in Matte Chrome1) deliver even greater distinctiveness. | S

It gets a touch sportier in the interior with the “Nappa Carbon” leather upholstery and trim. The seat side bolsters and head restraints are in eye-catching, contrasting styling. There is a choice between Modern Grey and Anthracite for the seat centre section in “Nappa” leather. The “R” logo is prominently positioned below the head restraint and Crystal Grey contrasting stitching provides the final visual touch. | O

Shifting gear without any interruption to the flow of power: The 6-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox changes to the next gear in hundredths of a second, enabling acceleration figures never previously achieved. The new Golf R is fitted with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. | O

EVERYTHING IMPORTANT RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF YOU. AND YOU IN FRONT OF ALL THE OTHERS.

What a sensation, having everything under control at all times. When the optional DSG dual-clutch gearbox is selected the multifunction leather sports steering wheel has shift paddles, enabling rapid gear changes without taking your hands off the wheel. It also very clearly demonstrates its origin with the “R” logo on the steering wheel trim. In the footwell the pedals are in stainless steel look. | S

The white illuminated instrument cluster with R-specific blue dial needles is sporty through and through. | S

300.At the heart of the most powerful Golf R ever is the engine with TSI turbo-charger technology. The 221 kW (300 hp) unit lurks under the bonnet with the “R” badge on it, waiting to be finally set free. And that will often happen, because the combination of direct injection and intelligent turbocharging delivers breathtaking driving experiences. | S

WE CONTROL TREMENDOUS FORCES. BUT NOT EMOTIONS.

Sporty, comfortable or economical? The driving profile selection includ-ing the “Race” mode especially developed for the Golf R offers you the opportunity to adapt the vehicle to the needs of the situation – very simply by the press of a button or using the touchscreen of your radio navigation system. The adaptive chassis control DCC offers even more precise tuning, taking just fractions of a second to adjust each shock absorber individually to the road surface and driving situation. | O

With 4MOTION permanent four-wheel drive, the concentrated power of the engine is distributed to all four wheels as required. This improves traction and enables even more impressive acceleration. 4MOTION also enhances safety when cornering at high speed and on wet or icy road surfaces. | S

Figures for performance and fuel consumption relate to operation with sulphur-free Super Plus petrol RON 98 in compliance with DIN EN 228. RON 95 regular unleaded fuel with a maximum ethanol content of 10 percent (E10) can be used in principle. For detailed information on the compatibility of E10 fuels, please visit www.volkswagen.com or www.dat.de/e10liste/e10vertraeglichkeit.

1 ) The figures stated were calculated in accordance with the legally prescribed measuring methods. The figures do not relate to any single, individual vehicle and do not constitute part of the offer. Rather, they are given solely for the purpose of comparison between different vehicle models. The fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of a vehicle depend not only on the efficient use of fuel by the vehicle, but are also influenced by the driving style adopted by the driver and by other non-technical factors (e.g. environmental conditions). Additional items of equipment and accessories (add-on parts, tyres, etc.) may alter relevant vehicle parameters such as weight, rolling resistance and aerodynamics, and, along with weather and traffic conditions, affect the fuel consumption and performance figures accordingly. Notice in accordance with Directive 1999/94/EC in its currently valid form: Further information on official fuel consumption figures and the official specific CO2 emissions of new passenger cars can be found in the guide “Information on the fuel consumption, CO2 emissions and power consumption of new passenger cars”, which is available free of charge at all sales dealerships and from DAT Deutsche Automobil Treuhand GmbH, Hellmuth-Hirth-Straße 1, 73760 Ostfildern, Germany and at www.dat.de.

2) Efficiency classes are awarded to vehicles based on their CO2 emissions, while also taking into account the vehicle’s unladen weight. Vehicles with average efficiency are rated D. Vehicles which are better than the current average are rated A+, A, B or C. And vehicles which are poorer than average are classified E, F or G.

Some of the vehicles illustrated in this brochure are equipped with optional extras available at an extra charge.
