I write this just before I go again to church to work on the plumbing and heating systems. I guess as an ageing congregation you are as aware as anyone that plumbing and heating starts to fail with age. The boiler to the Hall has been replaced with two modern ones in the Church cellar. When we were looking at the old boiler, we realised that the cellar had been flooded to a depth of at least 18 inches. The cellar has two drains to the river so it is likely that the river level had risen to that height. A team of PMS (People who meet Saturdays to clean church) supplemented by Garry Bradbury, met with a large skip and cleared the damaged plasterboard, timber, electrical parts etc. The heating has required a few tweaks as the pump to the annex is failing. This will be replaced probably before you read this. When we replaced the boiler it was urgent work required to restore heat. For that reason we have not included pipes and radiators. They are however restrictions on the system and failures are likely in the coming months or years. I can tell you that the Church has had a new carpet fitted and looks really good in time for Christmas. You will also notice, if you come to Hallfold, that the land used as a car park to Hall Street has been surfaced. This was a thank-you from Persimmon Homes for putting up with the development. We have a Church Meeting on Sunday. We had thought that December was too busy preparing for Christmas but the business of Church does need to be done. The agenda includes the agreement of the budget for 2018, process for Election of Elders, Review of Church Membership and Advent Charities. All these need to be agreed before the year ends. It also includes for the Elders to nominate to Church a Secretary.
